Lee Anderson being appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the Tory Party.

I'm genuinely disturbed by what on earth the government is doing....Is anyone seriously worried at what the hell is going on?

Apologies if this is a dupe post, couldn't see anything here or on the politics board.

He seems a bit thuggish but then he’s probably grown up with trouble outside his front door, not distantly beyond the thick walls of his vast demesne(s). So he’s more in tune than the average Tory with hard living and less inclined to be all superficially fluffy and woke.

This is the level of critical thinking these days. I'll say no more.

Let’s face it, the majority of politicians are self serving twats. It’s what gives them the arrogance of thinking they can win an election. No one nice and normal who thinks about the wider good goes for the job.

I'm still not sure why you are accusing him of being racist. He did not agree with taking the knee and I have read something about being tough with groups wanting to occupy land that did not belong to them, I cannot remember where in the UK exactly

The 30p issue is neither here not there, as there are many influencers making videos about feeding a family on a budget, etc

JFC - have you even bothered to read this thread?! There are links to his posts where he gives his public support to racists. And in my book, if you're giving your support, publicly, to a racist that means you share those racist views too.

And the 30p issue is very much here and there. Lee Anderson isn't just some flybynight blogger or influencer, he's a politician. And now deputy leader of the Conservative party.

Do you have any understanding, or empathy, for the issue of poverty in this country? Or do you share Michael Gove's views, perhaps, that those people who need to use food banks only do so because they made 'bad choices'?

The Conservative Party reminds me of Eastenders these days. Like the uncomprehending and motiveless souls trapped in the hell of Albert Square, they are only permitted to employ, befriend and mate with the other occupants of Parliament, however unlikely those couplings gradually become. Sooner or later, every woman will marry Phil Mitchell, every man work for Ian Beale and every child vanish for a while to be reborn as a troubled sexy young adult. Any new resident of the place becomes a dramatic, adulterous mess with criminal leanings, regardless of their personality when they first appear. At the same time, child beaters can become loveable idiots and multiple murderers live next door to the families of their victims with no long term rancour.

There is no rationality, morality or sanity left in the Cabinet. Rishi Sunak will marry Boris Johnson and we will all be dragged down to purgatory.

The more he pays his staff, the higher his expenses will be... MPs with the lowest expenses pay crap wages to their staff.

I think that's unfair, actually. There are politicians on both sides of the house who have a genuine sense of public duty, and they work hard to serve their constituents.

Let's not let the really shit ones off the hook by shrugging it off and saying they're all as bad. Actually, they're not. None of them are perfect, of course, but the really bad ones ought to be properly held to account.

Yes, I employ people myself so would expect on-costs to be included. I'm surprised at the suggestion that the average number of staff is 5 though - I presume you mean 5 full time equivalent posts rather than 5 individuals who may or not be part time, otherwise the statistics would be pointless. Do you have a source for that? My work brings me into close contact with several MPs and none of them have staffing at this level. They are very stretched so I'd be surprised if they were choosing to employ fewer people than they were allowed to employ!

So for example, 30p Lee had 3 full time staff who worked for the full year in 21/22, 1 part time who worked a full year, and 5 people who worked part of the year either full or part time.

I actually really disagree with this. We have a lot of people in the current government of whom this is true, but there have always been decent politicians on the right and the left who genuinely want to make things better in the country. They just have different ways of doing it. It's a low blow to say they're all the same.
