To accept it or get motivated.
I have every reason to be motivated . But I'm not.

I've three kids, on my own , my knees and ankles are paining me, I've a back injury that can be healed woth walking and im single and would like to feel my best to look my best to meet someone one day.

I don't know how I got to this place.
I can carry two stone over. Im 5'7 but this is a new low for me.
Where do I even begin.

My mood is so low and I feel hopeless and full of despair for the future .
That chat we had was just the mail in the coffin.
AIBU to think I can do this in my own.
I can't afford a club or dietician.

I have so little time for planning or prep and as dr said to me ' once again, it's us women putting ourselves last and waking up unhappy with our weight and fitness one day'
All opinions appreciated and even a kick up the behind .
Thank you for reading.

Really you don't need any weight loss processes or special diets to lose weight, once you get to the stage of being able to face it. Cut out sugar, refined (white) carbs, and massively up your veg intake to at least a third of every meal. Those things will help anyway, and might be enough.

ThreeblackCats · 08/02/2023 11:05

Don’t buy the unhealthy snacks, biscuits etc. If you don’t have them, you can’t eat them.
Do buy veggies, fruit, cottage cheese with pineapple and nice crackers to snack on.

Add lots of veggies to your meals, make time for a short daily walk which will eventually become a long walk, nobody else can do this for you. There are no shortcuts, no easy way to do it. You have full responsibility but it can be done.

Remember it will not be quick but it’s not impossible.

Drink lots of water, I like fizzy water, but try the zero calories fruit water etc. You need to get used to a new way of life. But you absolutely can do this. You’ll feel so much better once you start losing weight.

Here's a tip for anybody no the go, tesco do these little pouches of black pitted olives in brine, 70 grams., whether you're watching carbs or fat, they have fewer calories and fewer fat grams than a bag of crisps. I am off work today for a hospital apt but meeting a friend later. I just had a healthy porridge with frozen berries (again, tesco do frozen berries for 2 euro and that is enough to weigh out about 70 grams per day for 6 or 7 days. So much cheaper than buying fresh raspberries! anyway I'm heading off in to big bad dublin now and if I get hungry i have the pouch of olives in my bag and one kilmeaden cheese snack bar. Especially if you love cheese it's good to have these portioned out sizes. I know I know, packaging is excessive and it works out cheaper. But if you're on the go and afraid you'll be starving and order a carrot cake muffin with 580 calories :-p mmmmm that sounds lovely, figuring out what you can eat between meals if you are genuinely hungry will save you and in your case, with the intention to lower the cortisol levels, I wouldn't try and push through hunger for hours.

xJoy · 08/02/2023 11:08

works out more expensive i mean! It's definitely more expensive to buy the portioned out sizes of cheese but I have been finding it really helpful. It is 20 grams and it's wrapped. You don't keep slicing off another bit when it's wrapped. I find

I hear you! Am in a similar boat. One thing that’s helping me a lot is following rebelfit on Facebook (and I’m doing their current mission and have done a few others). They’re really focused on well-being and nourishment/strength and loving away from harmful diets and diet culture. Obviously a mission might not be for you but I’d really recommend checking them out. Weight gain and obesity is about so much more than calories in and out/eat less move more, and I’m find the rebelfit approach (along with some other work I’ve done this last year, like following Lisa Schlosberg’s out of the cave podcast), to be very helpful.

I wish you all the best. It’s hard and I’m sure you’ll get many responses telling you to do xyz, count calories etc. I find that does not work for me and leads to shame spirals and binges. I feel like I’ve finally found an approach that might actually lead to long term changes in my health ❤️

1250 calories is so low! Your BMR is the number of calories you'd burn if you literally stayed in bed all day i.e. the minimum your body needs to function so you shouldn't be eating much less than that, even if you don't do any exercise.
I'm 5ft 6 and just under 70kg and I could lose weight on 1700 calories a day with a daily step goal of 10,000 and 2-3 weights session a week so at your height and weight you can definitely afford to eat more.

Hydrangeatea · 08/02/2023 11:30

1250 is WAY TOO LOW. You'll be able to keep that up for a couple of weeks, maybe a month but you'll be miserable in no time and end up bingeing.

If you do no exercise other than moving around each day I would stick to your BMR of 1600 plus try and add on as much movement as you can. Doesn't have to be all out cardio classes to be effective but walking as much as you possibly can will have a great effect.

I am now 74kg reduced from 95kg and I did it on about 1850 cals per day, 10,000-12,000 steps per day and about 45-60 minutes of cardio and strength about 5-6 times a week.

My average output was about 2,400-2,500 cals per day on that.

SeaToSki · 08/02/2023 11:44

I lost 25 lbs and kept it off by
working out what my personal kryptonite was (the thing that I ate everyday that was calorific and difficult to only eat a little of) and switching it for an acceptable substitute that was low cal. For me it was bread and I switched it for multigrain crispbread. So 150 calories for 35. I would eat at least 4 slices a day, sometimes 8.

I then avoided fruit as it drove my sweet tooth and just ate as many steamed veg at every meal as I could.

If I was looking for a snack, I drank 8 oz of water and waited half an hour. That often just got me to my next meal time

In a weird way I embraced a little bit of hunger. It made me feel like my diet was working. If I was starving hungry, it was different and I would do the water thing..but a little bit of hunger was a useful encouragement

tootiredtobother · 08/02/2023 12:52

the glucose diet is not faddy, no supplements, calorie counting weighing etc, just eat foods in a certain order that the body best deals with them ie carbs last

He's hilarious 🤣 sarcastic and straight talking

He is! And does speak sense. Like eat less doesn't have to mean less volume etc. Quite simple recipes as well. I would add more veg, but they still look good to me.

Yoppi · 08/02/2023 16:27

Bubblebubblebah · 08/02/2023 14:33

I follow him on TikTok among others (and also add more veg), he's ace!

linsey2581 · 08/02/2023 17:50

Get yourself one if those smart hula hoops. Best decision I ever made!

Heyhoitsme · 08/02/2023 17:52

As you're in Ireland do you follow Operation Transformation? It's very motivational and their diet and lifestyle are easy to follow.

olympicsrock · 08/02/2023 18:03

Hope you have had a good day @forelogger . I’m happy to stick around for morale support. We are starting the same journey form 95kg at the same time.

I had a deep tissue massage , went to my first body balance class and had an avocado for lunch which I love. Wasn’t late for anything. Trying to be less stressed. I’m day 6 on citalopram and feeling a bit brighter and more motivated.

forelogger · 08/02/2023 18:10

Lovely news!
I've had a lovely day.
Managed pieces of fruit and veg at work and have just made a massaman chicken curry with lots of veg . I'm goi g to calorie count. It seems laborious but I have committed to giving myself that time so I think the key is to plan for tomorrow .
That curry with a few tablespoons of boiled rice will be 400 cals.
I've got myself a Diet Coke and some snack a jacks for later on for something if I'm still hungry. That will finish me up at about 730 until tomorrow at 1130. This really will be one day at a time.
Got 1400 mos water/ cordial in so far. That's me for today .
Good luck to all 😊

8 pieces of fruit ..

OP posts:
Bubblebubblebah · 08/02/2023 18:14

Can I just clarify what people consider "piece of fruit"?

I love fruit. Eat it all the time. Generally every day I have an apple, citrus (1 if large, 2-3 if small like little Clementines) and usually 1 more pear or apple. If I have eatermrlon, I have 1 watermelon

Bubblebubblebah · 08/02/2023 18:16

Oh and 2-3 tomatoes and peppers and often aubergine😁

forelogger · 08/02/2023 18:21

2 stocks of celery
An apple
4 east peeler and half a pot of chopped pineapple

Tackle one obstacle at a time and understand the reasons you need to make changes. Get out for slow gentle walks with the kids. You'll slowly get in to the habit. Once you've cracked getting your steps in start on making small dietary changes. You don't need any special diets, Intermittent fasting or low calorie apps. Eat wholesome nutrient dense foods. Eating well isn't hard, it just needs to become a habit. Stay away from any app that tells you to eat 1200 calories a day. These are generic calculations the apps give to anyone. I'm talking Noom, MFP etc. Please don't go all in and try and do everything at once otherwise it's doomed to fail. Baby steps, you'll get there but remember you didn't gain weight overnight so don't beat yourself up about losing it quickly. x

Blueskybird · 08/02/2023 18:23

Hey on the positive you are tall with an Irish accent? What’s not to love!?!

forelogger · 08/02/2023 18:27

Haha @Blueskybird I'll take that !!

Seriously though, just to get so much veg and fruit, which ironically I just love ,into me and reduce the shite food is a big bonus and a good start .
