Dogs in cafes etc

1000 replies

Dogscanteatonions · 07/02/2023 10:46

I love dogs but I'm utterly fed up of them being cafes pubs restaurants shops etc, partly because I am allergic and partly because so many are poory behaved

However in the last week I've seen:

A man at the bar in a pub with his dog on the bar stool next to him with its paws up on the actual bar

A photo on the Facebook account of a favourite bar/ restaurant of a big hairy dog lying on one of the sofas - I'd have an allergic reaction if I sat on furniture right after a dog had been in it.

And to top it off yesterday I was in a cafe and the table next to me had a puppy which peed on the floor profusely which they halfheartedly mopped up with just a tissue from a pocket and didn't even tell staff so they could properly clean it. This was right next to serving counter.

I know a huge amount of people on Mumsnet are crazy pro dogs but I defy anyone to defend this. How do people think this is ok??

Aibu to think you should keep your dogs off furniture in these places and that you have an obligation to ensure its cleaned up properly if your 3 dog messes?

Bet he had a good view though. Bless him.

@BarrelOfOtters

im sure the dog really appreciated the view
dogs love a good view apparently
ffs

vivainsomnia · 08/02/2023 11:17

a dog doesn’t need to sit on a chair or sofa
But we're not talking about needs here. Were talking about what business owners allowed.

If you invite me in your house and say dogs are not allowed on sofa, I will absolutely oblige. If the cafe owner says it's fine, then maybe I will. Or not!

Nappies sadly very much do leak. It's happened a few times on trains and airplanes when people sit on wet seats after a toddler was on that seat, or young kids without nappies who still have accidents.

vivainsomnia · 08/02/2023 11:20

when I go out I wear nice clothes and do not want to be sat somewhere that a dog has just been sat
But you'd be fine to seat on a chair where a young kid had a bit of an accident? Take wipes with you if you are so bothered!

is that really so hard for you to understand

Yes, but then again I go around in fur encrusted dungarees with poo bags hanging out the pockets.

vivainsomnia · 08/02/2023 11:21

I would do that, but ask the person sitting in front of it was ok, and wipe the table afterwards.

@vivainsomnia

obviously not, that chair would have to be cleaned wouldn’t it. no one would be sitting on it.

and yes of course accidents with young children will happen. But they HAVE to sit on chairs cos they are people. Dogs do not have to sit on chairs. So if a dog make a mess it was entirely avoidable. It is only because of overly indulgent, selfish dog owners that it happens.

It’s totally unnecessary for a dog to sit on a chair. If you wanna do it on your own home fine, but not in a public place.

gross

I would be telling you NO in no uncertain terms lol

why the fuck would your dog need to be sat on a table?? Just why? Can you answer that?

LuckySantangelo35 · 08/02/2023 11:26

Springbreakwoohoo · 08/02/2023 11:25

@Springbreakwoohoo

really what? I do not want to go around with fur encrusted clothes, I’m sure a lot of people wouldn’t

Jesus fucking Christ - you'd put your dog up on a table on the train? People eat their food on those. Would you put your dog on a table in a restaurant? (from the sounds of it you probably would)

I despair. I really do. It's no wonder there are so many threads about dogs on here when there are people like you. Have you no sense of common decency?

@Dogcafedreamer

i don’t care if they do

a dog shouldn’t be on a table. End of.

some poor person might then be eating a sandwich or meal or whatever off a table where your dogs arse has been. Not fair.

vivainsomnia · 08/02/2023 11:46

*It’s totally unnecessary for a dog to sit on a chair. If you wanna do it on your own home fine, but not in a public place"
A public place that allows it! Why can't you accept that it is not your decision to make? You are not there to make the rules. You don't like it, you go elsewhere. What would be totally unacceptable would be to insist on doing it somewhere where it's not allowed.

Jesus fucking Christ - you'd put your dog up on a table on the train? People eat their food on those
Yeah, and again, there are kids with disgusting dirty hands, pick their nose and then take joy in rubbing these same table over and over. At least if I did it (haven't so yet), I'd clean it, which is a lot more than most parents do.

Why would I do it? For the reason cited, looking at the window. If you told me you had an issue with it, I'd respect your position. If you raised your voice or insulted me, I'd tell you clearly to watch you tone and use of words.

@vivainsomnia

I’m pretty sure dogs are not allowed on the tables of trains

LuckySantangelo35 · 08/02/2023 11:48

@vivainsomnia

just make your precious dog sit on the floor of a train
and then in your own car you can have them sat so they can enjoy the view
easy

I didn't say that I would, you've made that up! I said that dogs like looking out of windows, is that not allowed? Can I not say that?

I tell you what though, if you think that without dogs sitting on tables on trains that they are clean, you are very much mistaken.

vivainsomnia · 08/02/2023 11:50

But where a kid might have spread his boogies, you're fine with? Personally, * would never eat on table that hadn't wiped first. I never put food directly on a train table. If somehow I had no choice, I would wipe it first. That's common normal hygiene standard.

I think people love to find reasons to target dogs no matter how much their arguments don't stand up!

vivainsomnia · 08/02/2023 11:53

I’m pretty sure dogs are not allowed on the tables of trains
Pretty sure? I'm quite a sticker to rules, if a train employee pointed it out, I would put them down. Not that I have not it yet anyway! Every time I travel with doggy on train, my biggest issue is with everyone wanting to pet them!

LuckySantangelo35 · 08/02/2023 11:54

@Dogcafedreamer
@vivainsomnia

i do wipe the table first yes

but if a dogs arse had been there I would want to bleach the table never mind give it a wipe!

have you never heard of Toxocariasis?

Sparklingbrook · 08/02/2023 11:54

I don’t know about a ‘quiet carriage’ but reading all this about dogs on tables on trains maybe there should be a ‘dog carriage’ where the owners sit on the floor and the dogs on the seats/tables?

vivainsomnia · 08/02/2023 11:55

Nah thank you, I won't and wouldn't because 1 person happens to want it. We all have to live with things we don't like. I personally would demand that parents with loud kids to be thrown off the train but I accept that it is not an option, so I either bear with it or look at alternative transport. That's life in public places.

Dogscanteatonions · 08/02/2023 11:56

Dogs are definitely not allowed on train seats, I can't find anything online that says they're not allowed on tables probably because that's so fucking OBVIOUS.

Very epitome of entitled dog owner - you think your dog should be allowed to sit on the table on the train so it can look at the view. For fucks sake.

That’s sounds a good idea. All the dog hair and smelly dog breath etc can be contained in one carriage for dog owners
