Dogs in cafes etc

1000 replies

Dogscanteatonions · 07/02/2023 10:46

I love dogs but I'm utterly fed up of them being cafes pubs restaurants shops etc, partly because I am allergic and partly because so many are poory behaved

However in the last week I've seen:

A man at the bar in a pub with his dog on the bar stool next to him with its paws up on the actual bar

A photo on the Facebook account of a favourite bar/ restaurant of a big hairy dog lying on one of the sofas - I'd have an allergic reaction if I sat on furniture right after a dog had been in it.

And to top it off yesterday I was in a cafe and the table next to me had a puppy which peed on the floor profusely which they halfheartedly mopped up with just a tissue from a pocket and didn't even tell staff so they could properly clean it. This was right next to serving counter.

I know a huge amount of people on Mumsnet are crazy pro dogs but I defy anyone to defend this. How do people think this is ok??

Aibu to think you should keep your dogs off furniture in these places and that you have an obligation to ensure its cleaned up properly if your 3 dog messes?

i loathe dogs in shops and it really puts me off browsing. John lewis customers seem to delight in bringing in their usually designer yappy dogs. it's a really stupid policy in my opinion, as we aren't all in awe of their awful stupid french bulldog things.

Mind you i would also ban men from the women's sections in john lewis, sulking and getting in the way.

You could say no? You don't like your dog to get up on furniture where people are going to sit and suggest a photo elsewhere?

But I don't mind my dog getting up on the furniture. He doesn't get up unless invited and he then sits for a selfie with the landlord. When he gets up he gets off again.

This. And it would be rude to refuse. Landlord’s pub, landlord’s rules.

SillyLittleBiscuit · 08/02/2023 09:56

Yes they should.

THIS IS THE END OF

@SillyLittleBiscuit

should they? Why?

they can sit/ lie on the floor where it doesn’t matter if they slaver or shed their hairs or whatever

when I go out I want to look nice with nice clothes etc - I don’t want to sat in the same chair a dog has just vacated.

Can you really not get tha?

Dogs should not be on furniture in a pub or cafe

END OF

When you're a pub or café owner, you're free to have that rule then 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think it's probably best you avoid John Lewis, it's not bringing out the best in you.

Such a divisive subject, but I think dog owners know (and there are plenty of us!) that despite us living in disgusting filthy homes and being at risk of disease and ingesting a plethora of hair, pee and other undesirable matter, we can comfort ourselves with the following. Dog owners have:

“Higher survival rates, fewer heart attacks, less loneliness, better blood pressure, better psychological well-being, lower rates of depression and stress levels, fewer doctor visits, increased self esteem, better sleep and more physical activity,” source: American Heart Association

Nitgel · 08/02/2023 10:27

haha

vivainsomnia · 08/02/2023 10:30

That's really not the case in the touristy town I live in, the places that allow dogs vastly outweigh ones that don't
Outweigh? So there are some that don't allow dogs. What's wrong with sticking to these? Then it's a non issue.

so?

Well that's fair enough when it comes to those dogs who slubber and shed hair. My dog does neither. Are they ok to be on the sofa?

No. Dogs should not be on furniture. I doubt you wipe its paws or bum before you let it up there.

Feet shouldn't be on the furniture either

As I've mentioned previously - if you've bothered to read the thread. I don't need to, I just need entitled dog owners to not let their dogs on the bloody furniture.

When I started this thread I said I like dogs. I still like dogs but fuck me I really dislike a lot of the owners even more now.

Said with sad Daily Mail face!

vivainsomnia · 08/02/2023 10:55

@LuckySantangelo35, so as expected, it's nothing to do with the actual risk associated with dogs and some people would rather have a snotty, full smelly nappy next to them rather than a clean, non shedding, none slobbery, non smelly dog seating next to them, bit it's not because they dislike dogs, really!!!

I don't need to, I just need entitled dog owners to not let their dogs on the bloody furniture
Entitled owners....people who follow the rules of the business with everyone else happy rather than you being entitled to expect every cafe in town to impose rules they don't care for just so that you have the option to sit in every single cafe in town...ok then!

LuckySantangelo35 · 08/02/2023 10:57

@vivainsomnia

a dog doesn’t need to sit on a chair or sofa

dogs are fine on the floor

a dog is a dog, no matter how much some posters try to humanise them

babies, full nappy or not, are humans and therefore do not sit on the floor

simple

Good Lord, what a fun sponge. Do you travel on hoverboards, Back to the Future stylee, so your feet never touch the disgusting ground?

Twizbe · 08/02/2023 11:11

Don't forget the baby has the nappy on so their bare bum isn't touching the chair.

Twizbe · 08/02/2023 11:12

@Springbreakwoohoo you're kidding me right? You think it's fine for anything to put their bare bum on a public seat?

Do you sit with your feet on chairs too?

BarrelOfOtters · 08/02/2023 11:15

Judijudi · 08/02/2023 09:25

on a train one day and person got on with dog and proceeded to let dog sit on the table! It was an hour journey and the dog was on the table for the entire journey! Absolutely disgusting.
Can’t stand dogs and have a lifelong fear of them

Bet he had a good view though. Bless him.

@Springbreakwoohoo

when I go out I wear nice clothes and do not want to be sat somewhere that a dog has just been sat

is that really so hard for you to understand
