Takeaways

Is a takeaway considered a treat for you?

Which day/days do you have one?

What do you choose? Pizza, Indian, Chinese etc etc

People are saying with the price of food, it’s getting almost on par with eating out/getting a takeaway 🤷🏻‍♀️

SnakeOiler · 26/01/2023 21:57

It’s not a treat for me because I’m a better cook lol.

rarely do we get them as always disappointed and obscene money. It’s usually convenience once every few months.

girlfriend44 · 26/01/2023 21:59

No to takeaways, they are expensive and find home cooking better.

WordtoYoMumma · 26/01/2023 22:01

We regularly get one of two take aways, both less than £20 for the five of us! Local pizza place, and local kebab shop.

Maybe twice a year we go out for a curry but never order in.

New sushi place opened near me but it is v expensive so that'll be my birthday treat once a year I expect!!

Mammyloveswine · 26/01/2023 21:50

@Ottil fucking century egg indeed! 🤦‍♀️

I agree on sushi though... we often get sushi but pop in on the way home and get the reduced boxes from nudo!

It depends on your reasons for ordering though - I would only order interesting/unusual stuff that I can't make at home. Plus, it's only preserved egg, as in cured egg, as in not that wildly exotic. It's not swan's tongues.

@BertaHoon fish bites must a midlands thing! It’s a small portion of chips with a choice of a pot of gravy/ mushy peas / beans and three fish bites - fish bites are large portions of battered fish roughly the size of a 4 oz burger. We share between two of us and it’s £4:95. It’s called a fish bite special locally. Neither of us manage all our chips if we get one each!

Can confirm they sell fish, bites around here in the black country.

I was on a strict diet a year ago. Low cal, healthy stuff, no crap. I came off it one night to have a Chinese (veggie) takeaway with my daughter for her birthday. It left me feeling so unwell, right into the next day. Makes you wonder what they put in the stuff!

Krakenes · 26/01/2023 22:06

Loads! I love sushi, but it’s not economical for me to do this myself. With nursery drop off and full time work, I’m up at 0600 and don’t get back until 1900-2000 most days. I can’t be shopping around for sushi grade fish, cooking and cooling rice etc. I don’t think our takeaways are unhealthy at all. It’s a great convenience and I find it good value.

Shitloads of MSG.

SunshineLoving · 26/01/2023 22:07

I like Chinese, only ever now and again. It's too expensive to have regularly. I'm not a big fan of pizza or Indian but do occasionally have a kebab.

I have chip shop chips quite a bit, maybe once every month or two. I've found a good, reasonably priced chip shop.

Hamster1111 · 26/01/2023 22:09

We are pretty prolific when it comes to take aways. Probably averages as 2 a week. Sometimes we don't have one for 2 or 3 weeks, then we might have three in a week, which is horribly unhealthy. Sometimes it's a treat (Friday or weekend) Sometimes (often!) It's because we're being lazy. We have a mix, pizza, Chinese, Indian, Thai, Turkish.. we have lots of nice restaurants near by. If we added up what we've spent over the years I'd be horrified!!

Mummadeze · 26/01/2023 22:09

2-3 times a week, because I hate cooking! Usually Japanese or Chinese. Sometimes Indian or pasta or chicken burgers for my DD.

MissConductUS · 26/01/2023 22:09

Tex/Mex is our favorite, but I'm in the US.

TrishM80 · 26/01/2023 22:15

Yeah, considered a treat in our house. Every second Saturday. I would like Indian but other half hates it (can't handle spice) so we almost always get Asian (it's a mix of Chinese and Thai). Noodles, stir frys, sweet & sour, that kind of thing.

Kids go for McDonald's. Same thing every time, chicken nugget happy meal. They never deviate from it, it amazes me how they never get bored of it!

RicherThanYews · 26/01/2023 22:16

@Greensleevevssnotnose what does your husband order? I'm a suckered for a trilogy box but also greedy so I have the fillet strip side and then order 2 spicy wings 😋

viques · 26/01/2023 22:17

Really good Indian food, what we order comes to about £35, but is generous enough for three greedy people. They have recently started charging for the popadums chilli sauce and raita , which is fair enough . Nice compostable containers for most items which I like. Probably ordered once a month.

FunnysInLaJardin · 26/01/2023 22:19

never, can't remember the lat time I had one. Mostly due to geography tbh, the takeaway driver can never find us, so it has been 25 years without them.

I am happy about that, one less thing to give up!

PrancerandDancer · 26/01/2023 22:20

Oh we have more than we should... And may have had tonight 🙈

We aim for once a month but its usually 2 or 3 times.

Habit from our student days we haven't quite kicked!

Loudhousefun · 26/01/2023 22:21

Love a good turkish, there are some really good turkish restaurants near us that also offer takeaway at a cheaper price. The food is amazing, lots of grills with delicious sauces and salad. Now I want one.

PatientlyWaiting21 · 26/01/2023 22:22

Nope, it’s just food that we have as part of a balanced diet. I don’t get this whole “treat days” such an unhealthy relationship.

ThePoshUns · 26/01/2023 22:23

Definitely a treat. Have either a Chinese or Indian about once a month.

nothingmuchaboutjerry · 26/01/2023 22:25

We have a Chinese probably twice a month, comes in about £26 for 3 of us and youngest won't eat it so I cook for her separate. An absolute treat for us now though is KFC. It's one we all like but due to kids wanting boneless, partner wanting a mix and me liking the burgers, our last order came to £47! We could have eaten out at our local pub with drinks for that!

Hellybelly84 · 26/01/2023 22:26

Occasional treat - we usually save it for a night we are both totally knackered! I’d say usually have one (mainly Indian) every 2 weeks but never more than that. Apart from the fact its unhealthy (but delicious!)😋, its also not cheap so we do make sure it stays a treat.

Teatime55 · 26/01/2023 22:27

We only get them if we are desperate/stuck to be honest.
I just don’t like them that much. Probably because of where we live it’s all Chinese, Indian, chippy etc and not much else. In DHs home city there’s lots of choice and some really amazing Indian restaurants that do takeaway for instance.
I find your bog standard takeaway fairly disappointing.

FangsForTheMemory · 26/01/2023 22:27

Thai/Chinese fusion. I spend about £25 on myself because I live alone and that is the minimum order but make it last two or three meals. I used to get this once a week. Now once a month, max.

HowCanIPayItForward · 26/01/2023 22:28

We all love an Indian takeaway but don't do it too often for cost and health reasons. About every 3 or 4 weeks and usually spend £40-50 for the 4 of us.
