Just watching it on tv.

It was my favourite year..I was 16 and having the time of my life…Brit pop, house music, clubs, boys, alcohol & cigarettes…and the rest

I miss it and me then..tiny waist, smooth skin, a bit of attitude and energy and a lust for life 😫

What were you doing in 1994?

OP posts:
MyBloodyMaryneedsmoreTabasco · 25/01/2023 23:01

Agree! I was at uni, met a bloke who went on to become my best friend and, a couple of years later, my husband. I had great friends, a great social life, I was a very happy girl.

My DS1 made me a Mum in 1994
I was 28

Cormakorma · 25/01/2023 23:02

I was 14 and having a miserable time. I didn't fit in with the girls in school, just wanted to play football and muck about, at a time that was frowned upon. Had no friends. Mum diagnosed with cancer. Hated 94-96.

OldFan · 25/01/2023 23:02

Sneaking drinks of 20/20

@browneyes77 Strawberry? Smile

JadeSeahorse · 25/01/2023 23:03

I was pregnant and had our much longed for DD in the August following years of infertility.

@Cormakorma So sorry to hear that. Sad How are you now? PM if you prefer.

Mylittlepea · 25/01/2023 23:04

I was 23 and loving life……working in France doing a ski season, a few jobs in London and good times with friends

SeriyaDL · 25/01/2023 23:04

I left my parents' house in Germany, jumped in my car and drove to Brighton to start my first year at the University of Sussex. Quickly found 'my tribe' of friends, had a bit of a rollercoaster from backwater Germany where nothing remotely dangerous or illegal ever seemed to happen to footloose, fancy free uni life of sex, drugs and rock and roll.... Loved the music, the student lifestyle, the lack of responsibilities and spreading my wings. Met the man who's now my DH. Would go back in a heartbeat.

ChiefAdjusterOfRubensShorts · 25/01/2023 23:06

I was 22, living on my own in a great flat, working in Boots, raving every weekend. Absolutely living my best life.

Now I’m just a chubby, menopausal middle aged woman!

42isthemeaning · 25/01/2023 23:06

Best year of my life spending my year abroad in Paris whilst learning French! I'll never forget it Smile

Ijustwannabuildasnowman · 25/01/2023 23:06

I was 4😊

1994 was good and I have very fond memories of a youth service trip abroad, but 1995 was the best year ever.

I agree. 1994 was good, 1995 was the best year, but 1996 was still decent/ok. Britpop like already mentioned, house/club music, pick'n'mix, school drama / crushes, buying CDs for the first time, TOTPs, Smash Hits & TV Hits mags, agony aunt columns. East 17 had the Christmas no.1 slot in 1994, and that was far far FAR better than that bloody over-played Mariah Carey track that seems to re-enter the charts every year now! I think the only downside of 1994/5/6 is that John Major was still the PM.

@Itwasanotherlifewasntit - I was your age in 1994 as well!

OldFan · 25/01/2023 23:08

Would go back in a heartbeat.

I don't think I would go back to any time- there was a few weeks in 97 where I'd just left home and it was before uni, but I moved up to my uni town and was very happy on the pagan scene until everything went sour. I would go back to that fortnight/month if I could freeze time and have it stay the same maybe.

But then, I wouldn't know Jesus, and I'd still be a pretty awful person.

Mellymoon · 25/01/2023 23:09

I was 5 so being a kid really

Dontfencemein · 25/01/2023 23:10

I was at university. I remember going to watch early episodes of ER in a friend’s house. A young George Clooney was in it. Happy, carefree times.

morningtoncrescent62 · 25/01/2023 23:14

I'd not long extricated myself from a miserable marriage, and I was struggling as a single parent with two small children. Not the easiest of years, but not as bad as the ones that immediately preceded it. I have no memories of popular culture at all!

BeyondBehindthescenes · 25/01/2023 23:14

Working
No mobile phones
No Internet
People used to speak more to each other

Justmeandthedog1 · 25/01/2023 23:17

It wasn’t a nice year, trapped in an abusive marriage. Took another year to get out so 96 life started to get better.

BoadiceaOverall · 25/01/2023 23:17

Studying (albeit not very successfully) for a Masters degree which I didn't manage to complete.

NameChange005 · 25/01/2023 23:24

I was tail end of 7, turning 8 that year. Obsessed with Take That and Saturday night TV!
I was a lot happier in the 90s than at any other time, sadly.

DaphneBlue · 25/01/2023 23:24

I was living and working in Camden at the heart of Britpop.

Believe me, it was nothing like the cheery happy upbeat scene it seemed to be from the outside. Misogyny was rife and women and girls (some as young as 13) were victims of grooming and sexual assault at the hands of very well known figures from the time. One day it'll all come out I reckon.

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/01/2023 23:25

For some of it, waddling about waiting for first child to arrive.

Runningoncoffeealone · 25/01/2023 23:25

I was four. The year my parents separated. I remember my first day of school and how nervous I was. I also got my first pet that year - a cat, who lived until I was 18.
I also had horrible eczema on my cheeks, which is very apparent in old photos.

mrsfollowill · 25/01/2023 23:26

I was 22 and met DH that year- was an amazing time in my life- great music/good times and met the love of my life. I miss smoking in pubs/going to happy hour at 5pm and generally being free!
We are nearly 30yrs older -but have done the 'early years' with our child (who is an adult himself now!) It was a truly belting time- I remember 1997 and the Labour party throwing cash at our deprived corner of the North which improved quality of life for so many.
At the risk of being too political it feels like we are back in 1970's at the moment- unrest/foodbanks / homelessness/strikes etc. I have no idea what the solution is other than to never vote Tory!

Yoloohno · 25/01/2023 23:29

The year I turned 16, living a similar life to the OP, I didn’t appreciate how easy and fun my life was then.

I’m glad I grew up then, my dc are a similar age (16 and 17) and their lives seem a lot harder.
