Soaking in the bath

I read on a thread here someone who said that maybe instead of having people in her home she sometimes wanted to soak in the bath for a couple of hours and it got me wondering…
I assume most people wouldn’t be able to stay in a bath for that amount of time but even half an hour to me in a bath is unthinkably long. maybe 10 minutes tops for me (yes I know that’s probably considered a waste of water but I’m curious)

AIBU or do people actually soak in the bath for ages?

Easily an hour to an hour and a half.

I am typing this from the bath, actually. Quick browse of Mumsnet then onto my book. Bliss.

I can easily spend 2 hours in the bath. I get a good book and can turn the hot tap on with my toe to keep it warm. It’s my most favourite thing.

Exactly the same.

2 hours minimum every evening (shower in the morning). I listen to audiobooks, fall asleep, scroll through my phone, make phone calls. It’s where I do my catching up with friends on the phone. Bliss.

Cuppasoupmonster · 24/01/2023 19:27

My idea of a ‘good soak’ is about 20 minutes. Any longer than that and the water gets tepid and it feels so wasteful endlessly refilling it!

slowquickstep · 24/01/2023 19:29

Hours and hours

Harrysfrostbittentodger · 24/01/2023 19:29

How do you all manage to read in the bath? I always manage to get drops or condensation on the pages and then it gets me all stressed 🤨

And I’m always worried about peepers spying on me on my camera if I watch a tv series (I’ve read too many articles on it to fully relax now)

I have to find a really good podcast but because I have nothing to visually fix on I get bored so can only last 20-30 minutes. Either that or I find a dirty mark that annoys me so much that I either have to clean it or get out of the bath completely

Lovegossip · 24/01/2023 19:31

I have a quick bath everyday to wash but on a Saturday I like to get bubble bath and muscle soak oils and wallow like a hippo lol

katepilar · 24/01/2023 19:31

I like my baths. An everyday bath takes me usually about half and hour. If I am soaking in a salt bath, its ment to take an hour and that is usually a bit more than I would like. It would propably make a difference if I had a long enough bathtub to fit myself properly in.

EllieRosesMammy · 24/01/2023 19:34

I am currently soaking in the bath scrolling through mumsnet, and I'll probably stay like this for the next 30-45 mins. I suffer with back pain and I've not long had baby no.3 so by about 7pm every evening I'm dying for my bath 😅

SunsetStrip · 24/01/2023 19:37

Half hour max, I then get out dry myself and lay on my bed with a book for an hour. All warm snd snug.

Tabitha1960 · 24/01/2023 19:41

I used to take 2-hour baths. I'd put a pile of quarter-cut sandwiches and a big mug of tea, and a copy of Private Eye. Sometimes even the phone. Big toe kept the hot topped up!

DappledThings · 24/01/2023 16:15

Can easily do 90 minutes and more.

(Yes, I get out to wee and if you don't then you should be ashamed)
Nope, I don't get out to wee and I'm not in the least ashamed.

😵

FannythePinkFlamingo · 24/01/2023 19:47

I'm currently replying from my nightly soak in the bath. I take my phone or a book, sometimes I have a candle too. I'm a 30 to 40 minute kinda girl though. I get a bit bored any longer than that.

Oysterbabe · 24/01/2023 19:49

I hate baths, so boring. I don't think I've had one in 10 years. I prefer to crochet and Netflix.

TinyTinyHamsterBalls · 24/01/2023 19:57

When I was pregnant I spent 2hrs every evening in the bath. Firstly because I had a very physical job that had me on my feet 10hrs a day. Secondly because I had pelvic girdle pain and lastly because it was nice to just chill out and have me time.

Intrepidescape · 24/01/2023 20:00

I could in my old bath but not where I am now. I could float in the other bath - but. It in this one.

SirenSays · 24/01/2023 20:05

tulippa · 24/01/2023 17:51

I must be weird. I get bored and uncomfortable after 15 minutes. I'm a proper fidget on a sofa too though. Can't justify using all that water for such a short time. As for lying in your own diluted wee for hours 🤢

I can spend hours in the bath with some lit candles and a good book. I've eaten dinner in the bath, never pissed in one though, that's crossing a line 🤢

NashvilleQueen · 24/01/2023 20:12

I have probably had two baths in the past ten years. I had almost forgotten that they're a thing people do. Genuinely. I might try one.

BettyOBarley · 24/01/2023 20:23

Since I was a teen, my favourite thing in the evening has been a 2+ hour bath.
The hotter the better!
I take my book/phone and some snacks, maybe a glass of wine and some candles.
(I wee before & after! 🤣)
I've never fallen asleep though!

housemaus · 24/01/2023 20:24

I can do an hour - I have a bath most days, I hate the shower.

IneedcoffeeinanIV · 24/01/2023 20:27

CrocodileShoooooesCrocodileShoes · 24/01/2023 16:53

My kids say I don't have a bath, I have an event 🤣

I never spend less than 2 hours, often I spend 4 or 5 (when I had gallstones I regularly spent 10+ hours in there as the heat was the only thing that helped the pain).

The bath is my happy place.

It's my happy place too, I could quite happily spend hours and hours in it

BustaGrind · 24/01/2023 20:35

I love a bath, candles, wine, facemask, snacks, phone, book, body scrub....but never EVER piss 🤢

Fucking grim

Robin233 · 24/01/2023 20:59

Pre kids I enjoyed a good soak and a book.
Kids all grown now and current bath is quite big ( 70's style corner bath) so never fill it too deep though still nice.
So mostly showers.
At some point we intend to up date the bath room and I hope to install a claw bath or a free standing bath, one that I can filled right up almost to the top have a proper soak.

StickofVeg · 24/01/2023 21:05

I spent 1 hour 40 mins in the bath tonight! It was lovely - warm, relaxed, dark, gentle music playing. I'll sleep well tonight I'm sure after that wind down.

Kanaloa · 24/01/2023 21:12

I can definitely lie in the bath for an hour or more - I just never get the chance! I like to take in a book and just totally relax.
