Soaking in the bath

Divorcedalongtime · 24/01/2023 16:04

I read on a thread here someone who said that maybe instead of having people in her home she sometimes wanted to soak in the bath for a couple of hours and it got me wondering…
I assume most people wouldn’t be able to stay in a bath for that amount of time but even half an hour to me in a bath is unthinkably long. maybe 10 minutes tops for me (yes I know that’s probably considered a waste of water but I’m curious)

AIBU or do people actually soak in the bath for ages?

I can easily spend a couple of hours soaking, reading or watching my IPad

KangarooKenny · 24/01/2023 17:24

I always soak for 20 minutes with Epsom salts in the water.

whattodo1975 · 24/01/2023 17:24

This reminds me a conversation with friend who’s husband had a soak in the bath for 20mins.

She considered this an unacceptable amount of time “for a man” to be in the bath for. Apparently men should be in and out in 5 mins once they are clean.

Can easily do 90 minutes and more.

(Yes, I get out to wee and if you don't then you should be ashamed)
Nope, I don't get out to wee and I'm not in the least ashamed.

…this is a joke, right?

pls be a joke …

Nope. An entirely unremarkable event.

You wee in the bath and then lie on your own wee???

I do about an hour with a book. Last night I managed 2 hrs 40! Even i was surprised. My book is very good and I have a massive fancy spa bath. Slept like a log last night. Had loads if salts in so didn't end up that wrinkly either

YouWithoutEnd · 24/01/2023 17:30

If I’m having a bath then I’m making an event of it, could soak for an hour plus. In my early twenties I would run a bath immediately after work and just sit in it until bedtime reading my book quite happily.

My ex loves a bath, he’d run a bath and spend ten minutes in it, like most people would have a shower. Ridiculous waste of water.

My mum used to fall asleep in the bath for an hour ot two. I shudder now at how dangerous that was.

I’ve done it. I’m too fat for it to be remotely dangerous.

Frumpymumma · 24/01/2023 17:30

Half hour every night once dcs in bed.
Sometimes longer if i get engrossed on MN

fancyfrogs · 24/01/2023 17:31

30-45 mins usually. Don't think I've ever gone much more than an hour. Always with a podcast/good playlist on or catch up with a tv show or something on phone/iPad. I have a bath board which props up my phone/iPad and a drink, and chocolate if i have any 😁

DappledThings · 24/01/2023 17:31

I lie in a large number of litres of water in which a small amount of wee is vastly diluted, yes.

I mean I don't get in the bath with the intention of weeing and I go right before I get in but if I need another one and I've not been in long then I'm not getting out, dripping all the way to the loo, getting the seat wet and getting myself cold.

This has come up on here before. There were a decent number of us. I'll have to find the thread!

Frumpymumma · 24/01/2023 17:32

Dh often has half hr or so too. I go in and chat with him and visa versa.
He often brings me a cuppa too. Puts towel on radiator for me when i get out. And puts my pjs on bedroom rad.

Sorry. Lots of 2 hour soakers here, I’ve just realised. I come across as rude in my previous post. 🫢
How do you not fall asleep, you super soakers? 😳

Reading murder mysteries keeps me awake in the bath.

Alarae · 24/01/2023 17:34

I'm lucky in that when my DH wants to potter about in the evenings (usually meaning cleaning!) he says I can go for a bath and relax after our DD is in bed. I tend to spend around 90mins just floating around, reading stuff on my phone with a show on the iPad. He will also come up after an hour or so with a full boiled kettle to give the bath a bit of extra warmth and will also bring me up food/drinks if I want anything.

It is a lovely thing but I'm also well aware he likes to have me out of the way so it works well for everyone!

Purplelemons123 · 24/01/2023 17:35

How do you all not get so wrinkly it's uncomfortable after so long in the bath?! 15 mins and my fingers feel horrible! I'd love to be able to take longer baths!

SkiingIsHeaven · 24/01/2023 17:35

Normally am hour minimum

I definitely need a good body lotion after a long soak.

ARoughRide · 24/01/2023 17:39

The only time I have a bath is for a read of a book and a long soak. The rest of the time it’s just a quick shower.

C8H10N4O2 · 24/01/2023 17:39

Oh yes, its what baths are for. Showers are for washing, baths for soaking.

In my case with books/music/podcasts and preferable a large cold glass of something all behind a firmly shut door.

Its mainly hands and feet that wrinkle, if you are reading/holding a phone your hands are fine.
I sometimes put my feet on the side so I can stay in for longer without wrinkly feet 😆

Me too. I hate how dry and itchy my skin feels after a hot bath, despite using bath oils etc.

Montague22 · 24/01/2023 17:41

@MavisFlump you could maybe wash in the shower and just have water in the bath? I get that hot water is drying but I avoid bubbles for the same reason.

CeriB82 · 24/01/2023 17:45

I don’t waste time in the bath. Im in, shave and get out.

greenacrylicpaint · 24/01/2023 17:49

my idea of hell

long shower - yes. but bath?
unless I'm ill. then I might bath (wash version not relax version) instead.
