To wonder why they can’t make a Covid vaccine that actually fucking works?

Everyone I’ve known who’s had it/got it has been vaccinated and/or boosted.

There’s been two years in which to create a vaccine that actually works rather than just reduces symptoms, in some cases…

LadyWiddiothethird · 23/01/2023 17:54

Oh dear!! Someone has not got a clue how vaccines work.

Nimbostratus100 · 23/01/2023 17:54

It DOES work, and brilliantly - compare our death rate now to 2020!

I just think a lot of people have never actually found out much about vaccines before, percentage cover, length of immunity, reduction of symptoms, etc. Yes there are some vaccines that are more reliable. It is far more effective than many vaccines though! Cholera, for example....

Its about average for a vaccine, people just dont really understand vaccines

yousmellnice · 23/01/2023 17:55

I'm sure they are working on improving it

2bazookas · 23/01/2023 17:56

You've had years of endless public information about covid, that it's a mutating virus like flu ... did you never listen to any of it?

Rebel2023 · 23/01/2023 17:56

@Abraxan yeah I had anti virals
They only do paxlovid now, no infusion

Aishah231 · 23/01/2023 17:56

Harebrain · 23/01/2023 17:47

Well, there’s no cure for the common cold so I think the vaccine is pretty good. It’s allowed us to get back to normal. YABU.

Excess death rates are higher than they were pre vaccine so I'm not sure how that's true!

Motelschmotel · 23/01/2023 17:58

Why don’t you invent a magic vaccine if you think it’s that easy?! Jeez….

LimeTreeGrove · 23/01/2023 17:59

I've had covid recently and due to my age and other factors I think I might have been in trouble if it weren't for all the vaccines I've had. (I get the boosters due to age.) Instead it was just a normal illness. Not "just a cold" by any means and not that mild but not severe or worrying and I was able to fight it off with no medical input, just lemsips

TimeForMeToF1y · 23/01/2023 18:00

Anyone else cross the after all the billions of pounds that have been spent cancwr still doesn't have a cure?

MarshaMelrose · 23/01/2023 17:52

Are you alive? It's working.

I'm alive, no jabs also my children. Seems like it doesn't make much difference if you've had jabs or not though some who've had jabs seem to have been really ill.
There's no way of knowing how bad someone would have been with/without the vaccine - it's all anecdotal evidence

Rebel2023 · 23/01/2023 18:02

I do sort of get the OP
For me it's frustration that I still can't socialise. I socialised ONCE and got covid
16 days off work, felt utter shit, still wiped out, lost my bonus as I was off sick, had to get my dad to food shop for me. It's just a pain and I don't want to lose money or be that unwell again
So I've said that's it, no social stuff until summer

Inastatus · 23/01/2023 18:05

Yeah fucking useless world-leading scientists, what the hell are they playing at?! 🙄

Patineur · 23/01/2023 18:08

You clearly think it's easy, OP, so do carry on and tell the vaccine producers how.

Yes, you're right. That massive higher death rate across the globe before the covid vaccine was produced, was just coincidental. Vaccines have made no difference.

TheKeatingFive · 23/01/2023 18:10

What was achieved in the timeframe was pretty extraordinary in fairness.

So it becomes akin to flu. We don't stop people catching it necessarily, but the vaccines lessen the symptoms. The impact on serious illness and death is very significant.

Its a good result.

haveyouopenedyourbowelstoday · 23/01/2023 18:11

I nursed throughout Covid. In the beginning people were literally coming in to die. It was horrific.
Now they aren't.
The difference?
A vaccination that clearly doesn't work?

Greentree1 · 23/01/2023 18:11

People getting really ill not able to get to A&E, people not getting diagnosed because they were too afraid to go to GP/attend hospital appointments during lock down. People still dying of Covid and a bad flu year after little flu due to Covid safe interaction, people with bad illness not able to access care due to Covid patients blocking up wards, etc.

That actually made me laugh out loud.
You genuinely think the absolute stack of scientific factual evidence is "anecdotal" I assume you don't really understand science at all?

Op - YABVU the Covid vaccine does work.

Please can you explain to me how we can know how someone would react without or with the vaccine. How do we know that their reaction / level.of illness wouldn't have been the same even if they'd had no vaccine?

antipodeancanary · 23/01/2023 17:49

It's super annoying isn't it op? I reckon you should write to someone and complain. Or maybe you could could mix up a few bits in your kitchen and send that off to the government, see if it works any better.

Shout out to all the virologist....you lazy bastards

(She joked!)

In individual cases, you are correct. On a population level, it's pretty straightforward to determine the benefit.

Report: COVID-19 vaccines saved US $1.15 trillion, 3 million lives

Anyone remember this gem from Peep Show? Grin

Super Hans:
It's a pisser though, innit - cancer. They should find a fucking cure.

Mark:
I think they're trying.

Super Hans:
Yeah, sure they are. They should pull their fucking fingers out. It's important, Mark.

LegoBoobs · 23/01/2023 18:21

It’s a vaccine not a force field

piliomachaon · 23/01/2023 18:22

You maybe want to do some research about how vaccines work.
