And I bloody love the horrified reactions more than the delighted ones:

What???
Oh my god that's a mouthful isn't it?
Is that a name? Oh, I'd call him 'xxx'

It's not even that out there, I think people are just rude, but it cracks me up

Hilarious as I'm sure it is for you to get a kick out of the horrified looks, remember your child has to live with that name.
I hope he's a forgiving soul when he gets older or you're screwed.

Says the person who is revelling in I bloody love the horrified reactions 😂

I don't think it can be that bad.

Also how do you hide a thread please? I wanted to do that with my last one but couldn't work out what to do with it

OP coming in with a Marmite personality too.

Assuming it’s Jaxxson or Phoenix or something equally bogan, and friends and family are all a bit embarrassed for you.

Are you Kylie Jenner whose son's name in Arabic means "my dick"?

Has anyone said Spud-u-like yet?

Pronounced Spudulika don't you know!

Or Wayne, or indeed Waynetta.

These are all lovely Welsh names 😊

Thanks! They’re all early twenties/late teens now and they all like their names, though the ones who’ve gone to uni in other countries sometimes use nicknames.

Taran is great. Is the r rolled and is it male or female, seems to me to fit both.

It is a rolled R. It means thunder and is traditionally a boys name, mine is a boy. I think it could work for a girl too though!

I’m Welsh and haven’t heard of most! Seren of course I have, one of my favourite welsh names. I have a Dylan, one of the most common (if not THE most common) Welsh name

Dylan was always my favourite name! It’s actually Medi’s middle name as I couldn’t wait for a boy to use it. 😂
Medi means September
Taran is thunder
Awel is Breeze
Seren is Star
Macsen means Greatest and was the welsh name given to the Roman emperor Magnus Maximus.

people do tend to think they are weird or wonderful and no in between really.

@TheOriginalEmu I absolutely love all of those names! I struggled to get my Welsh but not welsh speaking other half to let me choose a Welsh name but i got there in the end!!

Their dad is English and he was relatively easy to convince but Finding ones my English in-laws could pronounce/not butcher too badly was fun. 😂😂

So so funny @Iwantmyoldnameback ! I'm stubbornly waiting for a name reveal BUT I've had fun watching Fr Ted and sniggering at the witty posts.
I did initially read the thread title as "I've named my child marmite" (misplaced my glasses), so was disappointed when I read it again properly.
Over the years I've heard names like Mormon, endeavour and blue. You know, a bit different. The middle name there, I overheard on my travels and I turned and said wow (because I can't keep my mouth shut) I paused a bit because the child's grandparents looked very worried then I said what a lovely name (grandparents of child then looked relieved). She said they found it hard to get used to.

Oh no, certainly not in the circles we move in. We only use 'Marm' when addressing the Queen when we used to attend her Gin and Bingo Evenings at her big house in London.

Ah yes, always remember Marm as in farm not Mam as in ham.

Crikey! You 'bloody love the horrified reactions'.

You better hope as they get older you kid bloody loves you, or this may well backfire OP

So it’s so ~zany~ that perfect strangers can’t manage to do the basic “oh how interesting” reaction and are reduced to shouting in shock with they hear it…

… but tame enough that you had no idea it was weird?

Give over. Either you named your kid Pinochet for the bantz or you named it Rebekah and nobody has ever reacted with anything other than “oh how interesting”.

My kids really like their names despite quite a few people pulling faces at them. People can be very weird about names that are perfectly normal names, but just outside of their own experience, my in laws were the worst when we named my eldest Medi- they said it sounded like matey or people would call her a Maid and all sorts of things that have never happened. When had Taran they refused to say it correctly because it was ‘too hard’ it’s literally as it’s spelled: tah-ran.
