We named our baby a marmite name

And I bloody love the horrified reactions more than the delighted ones:

What???
Oh my god that's a mouthful isn't it?
Is that a name? Oh, I'd call him 'xxx'

It's not even that out there, I think people are just rude, but it cracks me up

I didn't realise it would be marmite until we'd named him tbh. I've posted enough info on here that I could easily be recognised if I share the name. Should have name changed really and put his name in the OP but didn't realise people would be so bothered 🙄

Nobody is being a twat, it’s just very churlish to start a thread about ‘how rude people are about my kid’s name’ yet not even disclose it. It’s like those threads where someone is all ‘friend says my child is too old to still have a dummy AIBU’ but then refuses to say how old the kid is. Pointless.

Taran is pretty unusual, even in Wales tbf. It means thunder and was a nickname for a proficient farter in our school!

There is only one reaction that is important when giving a name, and it's not the parents or the parents friends or relations. How will he feel about his name when he is older? Is he likely to love it? I have a friend who has an obscure Welsh name. She is proud to be Welsh but deeply wishes her parents had chosen a different, still Welsh, name. She feels like they gave her that particular name to make a point, and she has suffered for it, not them.
