To be angry over a name

Barbie46 · 22/01/2023 19:55

My baby is 6 months old and we named her a very uncommon name that was special to us. Recently we met an old friend of my husband's, they are still in the same circle but not close friends anymore. He asked us the usual questions about a new baby including her name. He and his partner had a baby in the last few days and called their baby our daughters name.
He did not mention anything about her name when we told them it and I am feeling irrationally angry that they have used our daughters name.

Lord now I want to know what the mar is if everyone is saying it’s unusual 😂

OP I would be a tad annoyed too.

It's pronounced ren-leah. Grannies Renee and Leanne. But hey-ho !

It is a rubbish name, poor kid. I don’t believe anyone would copy that, I think someone was pulling your leg, so all is good.

Gronkle · 23/01/2023 00:57

I have a touch of heartburn, so I've just taken a Renlea

Is there any need to be so mean? No. Don't do that.

Hahaha. Right mate.

QueenCamilla · 23/01/2023 03:46

I would be Alona following this system. I kinda am Alona.
Missed opportunity 😂

Murdoch1949 · 23/01/2023 04:29

What a strange thing for them to do. I can understand your annoyance. Just feel sorry for them, lacking the imagination to come up with their own name and paying homage to yours.

MaybelleMary · 23/01/2023 07:51

Are you sure they didn’t call their baby Wren - Leah and it kind of mashes together.

I would be Rutene (Ruth and Irene), which has got quite a nice ring too it.

Would it be pronounced similar to Routine?🤔
I am actually named after one of my grandmother's ,and my sister is named after the other one
combined I would be Jannie
Jane and Annie ,not to bad .

Needmorelego · 23/01/2023 09:32

If my daughter was named after her Grannies she would be Lizara which is pretty cool because I could call her Lizard 🦎

x2boys · 23/01/2023 10:12

Patian has quite a nice ring to it ?
that's what one of boys would be called if named after their Grandfather,s Patrick and Brian

I think I read a thread recently where somebody wanted to name their baby Brick 😂😂

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 23/01/2023 10:46

As a standalone name or short for Brichard?!

Rickandmortified100 · 23/01/2023 11:06

I was all set to say you are being unreasonable, but then I saw that you literally made up the name and they copied it. If it was a pre-existing name then it’s not a big deal but you quite literally invented the name so yeah it’s really weird that they copied it!

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 23/01/2023 11:08

Ok, considering it's name you made up yourself I can see why you are annoyed.....

Burgoo · 23/01/2023 11:08

What is the name? Might like it for my next one ;) kidding obv ;)

YABU its a name. Is this really something to be upset about? REALLY?

Or Pam?

Pam: And you must be Uncle Brine … uh, Brian.
Bryn: Bryn.
Pam: Bryn.
Bryn: It means “hill” in Welsh.
Pam: Does it really? Do you know, I’ve no idea what my name means in Welsh. Nessa: Why.
Pam: ‘Cos I don’t speak the lingo, darling.
Nessa: No, in Welsh Pam means “why”.
Pam: Oh.
Nessa: [thinks] Or “brick”.

I don't recall the details but I think it was stand alone🤔

x2boys · 23/01/2023 11:13

There was a funny thread a few years ago the Op.thought she had made the name Farrah up and was upset to hear that somebody else was using her " Unique" name 😂

Clearly not a Charlie's Angels fan.

HermioneKipper · 23/01/2023 13:02

Is the name Renesmee?!

Come on OP seriously - if this is true, you don’t own a name

Grin

Sounds too much like something you do at the same time every day.

But I have an affection for the name Ruth, as every woman I've known with that name has been a lovely person.

I'm not sure if OP thinks she made up the name but a PP posted links showing the "unique" name dates back to at least 1940. It may be an unusual name, but it's not a new name that the OP has just created.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 23/01/2023 15:48

Indeed: not just a name that other people are independently giving to their babies now, but actually the name by which numerous people are fondly remembering their loved ones who have since passed on after reaching the end of their long, full lives!
