To be so embarrassed?

Was facebook stalking a new male colleague. No reason really, just wanted to find out more about him.
Not sure how on earth I managed it but I ended up sharing his profile photo on my own page. Been up for at least an hour and sure people from work have seen.
Literally dying of embarrassment

OP posts:

Oh no how embarrassing. Don't pretend you were hacked noone is ever hacked in this way. I would send him a friend request and admit that you had tried to do it earlier and ended up sharing his photo instead of adding him.

This! It's the perfect cover - until and unless someone sees this Mumsnet post of course.

Years ago I attached a friend/colleagues face to MY Gmail account and it was like a contagious disease it turned up everywhere..
I think I was trying to put pictures to mobile numbers and email accounts and getting the headshots from facebook or their emails or something, borne out of boredom from where I was living at the time!!! It was a nightmare to try and rectify, took me days, especially as a totally useless tech person, hence the mistake in the first place. Essentially I was emailing my friend and everyone else, from my account with her face on my email.

I ended up texting her, apologised, laughed and because she knew me well enough, understood my tech stupidity.

Just claim stupid, ' you came up on fb as a suggested friend clicked in and accidentally did xyz'. Joke about it ... tell him his pic gorgeous or something. If people put all sorts of stuff on net they obv want people ogle at it.

ForgottenNurseryRhymes · 20/01/2023 05:58

I'm curious to know how many posters have checked their LinkedIn private status? Any sighs of relief or have majority needed to change?🙈🥴

Actually just thinking op - just own it, we all stalk people. Own it, joke about it and laugh with them!

I definitely don’t do this and think anyone that does is very weird and obviously has nothing better to do in their lives.

Admitting you’re stalking the new colleague on SM is very weird and the replies would be much less light hearted if this was a middle aged male stalking a new younger female employee.

If you don’t do it you must be one of the only Facebook users who don’t - so you are either very “unique” (congratulations!) or just a liar.

Either way you’re definitely a bit nasty to try to make OP feel worse than she already does.

Brilliant!! Do this!

Harrysutton · 20/01/2023 06:22

Have you got a child? Blame them. Say he must have come up on suggested friends.

BurtonsRevenge · 20/01/2023 06:30

Your only option is to go and jump in a well.

youshouldnthaveasked · 20/01/2023 06:34

Aww sorry this is a moment when you want the ground to open up and swallow you. They might not have seen

On another note, thank you for making me laugh out loud. My Dad found out yesterday his cancer has spread

hatonacat · 20/01/2023 09:36

Sorry about your dad @youshouldnthaveasked

lisalash · 20/01/2023 09:39

It's funny but I imagine you are dying inside. If anyone says anything just hold your hands up and say you was having a stalk 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

I feel like trying to find an excuse will just makes matters worse.

Bless you though 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

lisalash · 20/01/2023 09:40

P.S - Is he fit? 😂

Well I hope you deleted it as soon as you realised?

This!!
Absolutely perfect way to save face @ToTheMax0

Gabby8 · 20/01/2023 17:43

You can try the kids/ someone taking the mic while your computer was unintended but it probably won’t work when he’s not on your friends list- that takes you actively looking for his profile pic- unless you have a colleague your very close with that would admit they did it as a joke you probably just have to style it out. Even then it would look weird that the colleague would wind you up this way so not overly believable. You could try adding as a friend so it looks like that was your original intention that went wrong.

I feel for you I’d be mortified! But so many people have done the same/ worse, I’m sure in a years time it will be a funny story!

BlondieLady · 20/01/2023 17:56

Simply delete it. Although he would have received a notification...

dogsbody1 · 20/01/2023 17:59

TruJay · 20/01/2023 18:09

OMG I'm dying inside for you 🙈🙈

sclarke624 · 20/01/2023 18:19

Just say I was talking about work to a mate and they said they thought they knew him. So you did a pic to show her cos she asked.

SnowyOwl1 · 20/01/2023 18:22

🤣🤣🤣 thank you for a good old laugh! Just reminds me of the thread on here where a woman heard the hot guy who sits behind her in the office say his postcode, so she put it into her phone to search (as you do 🤣) and her phone said the postcode out loud like the satnav does at the start of the journey 😅, see op you aren't alone!

I read a mumsnet post ages ago where a poster had been facebook stalking her ex, who had recently got married and had a baby. There was a picture on his profile of him, his wife, and their new infant daughter; and the poster somehow managed to tag herself as the baby.

I have just been in stitches for 10 minutes solid.
Funniest thing I’ve heard in ages! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Minniliscious · 20/01/2023 18:45

Oh my god, this has happened to me before and I didn’t even notice until I looked as my Facebook 2 days later. In this case, it was old boyfriend from absolute years ago. You’re not being unreasonable - it is one of those ‘break out into a cold sweat’ moments.

No advice really - just know that this soon shall pass!!
