To be so embarrassed?

ToTheMax0 · 19/01/2023 19:00

Was facebook stalking a new male colleague. No reason really, just wanted to find out more about him.
Not sure how on earth I managed it but I ended up sharing his profile photo on my own page. Been up for at least an hour and sure people from work have seen.
Literally dying of embarrassment

Actually just thinking op - just own it, we all stalk people. Own it, joke about it and laugh with them!

That is pretty embarrassing. I did similar last night though - Facebook stalking an ex and I managed to "Like" a recent post that his wife posted Blush

I noticed pretty quickly and unliked it, but I have no idea whether they will know what I did Blush

They will have got a notification saying you reacted to their post 😂

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 19/01/2023 19:21

I read a mumsnet post ages ago where a poster had been facebook stalking her ex, who had recently got married and had a baby. There was a picture on his profile of him, his wife, and their new infant daughter; and the poster somehow managed to tag herself as the baby.

Diverging · 19/01/2023 19:21

Yes I agree. All he’ll probably think is you’ve been google stalking him. Most of us do now no again including him most likely. Also it’s the truth. You were. No biggie. People are curious about people. It happens.

Penguinsista · 19/01/2023 19:21

Sniggering here

BatshitBanshee · 19/01/2023 19:22

I'd just style it out - so sorry Tom! When you said you were from Milton Keynes I thought I'd have a look to see if you might know my friend Paul but apparently I'm a div and shared your profile pic! So sorry I'm dying of shame, considering leaving the country & maybe continent too!

Will be ten times worse if you blame the kids or whatever because the likelihood of your kids finding his profile is just very odd so you'd forever be known as the embarrassed liar....

Christmaspyjamas · 19/01/2023 19:07

Oh no that is embarrassing.

But in an hour probably that many people won't have seen it.

Could you share all your other colleagues profile pics too one at a time? It would still be odd but at least would be democratic.

Hahaha imagine a stream of them all down her feed

oh christ I nearly spat out my tea 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

hatonacat · 19/01/2023 19:28

You have to style it out now. Confess. Tell it as a funny story, ’Omg do you know what I did last night, I was stalking people out of boredom as usual, and I happened to share your photo. I laughed for hours. Please shoot me!’ People will likely tell you similar stories, and like you for it. It IS funny!

JudgeRudy · 19/01/2023 19:28

Oh noooooooo! Quickly send 5 more and say you were trying to make a work group or something....anything.....ha ha

This is the funniest I’ve read in a long time! 😂😂😂

DemBonesDemBones · 19/01/2023 19:31

I'm proper wheezy laughing about the baby tag Grin

Firstawake · 19/01/2023 19:31

Just tell them what you told us, we all do it..... Well.... Not, share the profile pic!!
It will be forgotten quicker if you're honest, I reckon. 💐

tiredmama23 · 19/01/2023 19:32

@Mummieslncorporated

Well yeah. It seems obvious to me but I might be missing something 😂

Hahahaha that's fucking hilarious. Just imagine the horror you would feel upon realising!

I remember a thread on here last year where the OP overheard a new male colleague telling another colleague where he lived, and just out of idle curiosity typed the address into Google maps. Only her phone was set to navigation, and announced at top volume "starting journey to COLLEAGUE'S ADDRESS" or whatever, right across the room from that very colleague!

Butchyrestingface · 19/01/2023 19:35

@ToTheMax0

There was one a while ago by a poster who was working with a bloke she fancied when he took a phone call at work for an emergency plumber (or similar). He gave the plumber his home address unaware that the OP was sitting there with her ears flapping in the wind listening in.

She typed his home address into Google Maps or some such on her phone (as you do) to check out where he lived ...

... And then her phone's voice recognition software started reading aloud his address. Whilst he sat about two metres away from her.*

*I think that's the gist of the story. Can't find the post.

derelicte · 19/01/2023 19:36

@Theredfoxfliesatmidnight I'm having a horrible day, moving house tomorrow to somewhere I don't even like, and this has made me laugh so hard. Thank you 🤣

DarkShade · 19/01/2023 19:36

@Butchyrestingface yes that's it, your memory is better than mine! I felt ill just reading it.

violetcuriosity · 19/01/2023 19:37

Oh my god 🤣🤣🤣 you're just going to have to own it, message him and say something like 'Omg I'm mortified, I went to add you as a friend and my sausage fingers have put your dp on my profile I'm dying of embarrassment this would only happen to me 😂😂😂' if I got that message I'd make instant friends with you 😁

Youreeavinalaff · 19/01/2023 19:38

This is the most I've laughed in weeks, I have tears streaming down my face, thank you everyone for sharing your hilariously/cringe stories 🤣🤣🤣

ThirtyThreeTrees · 19/01/2023 19:38

Own it and bullshit your way out of embarrassment!

"Yes, Tom, you came up the people you may know section and curiosity being curiosity, I had to take a look. To be honest, I thought you must have looking mine up first given Facebook had made the connection. I wonder how their analytics works".

It doesn't matter if he believes you or not. The more embarrassed you are the worse it gets. Pretend not to care until you don't.
