To be so embarrassed?

ToTheMax0 · 19/01/2023 19:00

Was facebook stalking a new male colleague. No reason really, just wanted to find out more about him.
Not sure how on earth I managed it but I ended up sharing his profile photo on my own page. Been up for at least an hour and sure people from work have seen.
Literally dying of embarrassment

OP posts:

Delete post and then post another saying you think you’ve been hacked

helloreindeer · 20/01/2023 21:33

Those innocent (kids dogs cats) always involved in this case. They are helpful anyway.
i’d say oh actually i wanna add you as friend but no idea why it happened like this haha

Tbarker1 · 20/01/2023 22:11

This is the best response to the situation for sure.

Kellymm88 · 21/01/2023 00:12

This is hilarious 😂 you little creep lol

Petlover9 · 21/01/2023 03:29

tiredmama23 · 19/01/2023 19:23

Delete it?

OP - set up another FB account purely for "looking people up", any more mistakes were made by anonymous Smith😂 nothing to do with you

I was fb stalking an ex boyfriend some years ago and managed to accidentally tag myself in a photograph of him and his new gf! It took me weeks to notice. Thankfully I didn’t have to see him and we didn’t have very many mutual friends but I am blushing just thinking about it!

Haha I did this too years and years ago. I accidentally tagged myself on his new gf's face on the photo 😅😅

Augustmummy · 21/01/2023 06:28

Sorry OP but this had made me laugh for ages.

I know it's embarrassing, but hey really it's nothing - don't worry. It's ok to check out people's Facebook profiles - that's what FB is there for. Just be honest and tell him you were being nosy and was checking out his profile :) Admit to it - he will laugh his head off. This is an amazing ice breaker and I would love you if I was him and laugh with you ha ha.

@ToTheMax0

There was one a while ago by a poster who was working with a bloke she fancied when he took a phone call at work for an emergency plumber (or similar). He gave the plumber his home address unaware that the OP was sitting there with her ears flapping in the wind listening in.

She typed his home address into Google Maps or some such on her phone (as you do) to check out where he lived ...

... And then her phone's voice recognition software started reading aloud his address. Whilst he sat about two metres away from her.*

*I think that's the gist of the story. Can't find the post.

Oh hell I remember that! The phone read out his address!! (dying laughing again)

See OP, it could be worse. I think!

Dustyblue · 21/01/2023 07:01

There's clearly a gap in the market here. Someone on MN needs to set up a consultancy for Social Media Disaster Recovery.

Different to the usual PR firms. Private, discreet and exclusive.

Like the Goodies. On Facebook.

KikoMooCow · 21/01/2023 07:45

How could you "share" a profile? I don't understand.

Cherrypicks · 21/01/2023 07:58

Sorry OP, could not help but laugh! Thank you for the giggle, bless you for making a slip up. Just act cool, confident and casual when you’re at work, it’ll blow over. And get your stalking skills in check 😂

Dunnoburt · 21/01/2023 08:01

That made me lol....brilliant.!.....know what? I think I'd own it.....I'd laugh it off as me being a nosy sod and look what happened haha good luck!!!

Dibbydoos · 21/01/2023 08:09

This made me laugh, oP. How mortifying....

If anyone asks, I'd just say you weren't sure if you should friend them and in closing it down you hit the wrong button. No harm done.

Have to admit I keep work and social life very separate - LinkedIn for work, fb for friends and family.

opinionssoughtplease · 21/01/2023 08:13

Oh! You will probably do best to let this one be what it is! Some may know and have a giggle but that’s okay, you can cope with that! Laugh along . We all do it, everyone will have done or nearly done something similar, and re the new chap, unless he’s a complete twot with no sense of humour or humanity he’ll be amused! Good luck and let us know how it all goes 😊

Sooziewoozie · 21/01/2023 08:24

Tell everyone you’ve been hacked!! 🤣🤣

@KikoMooCow you actually share someone else’s profile can I’ve just discovered

But I think she meant his profile picture didn’t she?

I read a mumsnet post ages ago where a poster had been facebook stalking her ex, who had recently got married and had a baby. There was a picture on his profile of him, his wife, and their new infant daughter; and the poster somehow managed to tag herself as the baby.

This has made me laugh out loud and my cat shot off me.

PinkiOcelot · 19/01/2023 19:06

Get someone to send a message saying your FB has been hacked.

T this is an excellent advise

newmum32 · 21/01/2023 12:30

To make you feel better, I once accidentally shared a picture of my nipple on Facebook and it was on for about an hour (I think). I had been looking at pictures on my phone and then put my phone away in my pocket to feed baby. The specific picture was me with my new baby in the bath; all was covered by water or baby except for half of my nipple.
A few hours later my photographer friend asked if the picture i'd put on fb was the kind of thing i wanted, she could do it for me. I had no idea what she was talking about until I went online and there it was - my glorious brown nipple, even darker because of pregnancy!!
I took it down immediately hoping not too many people had seen. Thing is years later whenever i'd tell different friends that happened, they were like yeah, I saw it!! But only one of them told me!!!

Wantosleep39 · 21/01/2023 11:17

I disagree.

No hacker is going to be searching for ops new colleague.

The much better advice is to say a friend knows someone with the same name, so they were seeing if it was the same person (unless the name is highly unusual), or to just front it out and be honest.

JoyPeaceHealth · 21/01/2023 12:55

Yeh, the cheerful opps! Facebook stalking ey, need a new hobby don't I? It's a slippery slope ha ha.

ADMIT IT

Kellymm88 · 21/01/2023 20:36

Why lie? Just straight up tell the truth. Then it’s done, and you don’t need to remember a lie for years. It’s not a big deal

sillyme563 · 22/01/2023 22:36

Urgh fuck it, OP

"You know what I did, I know what I did, was stalking the guy and I did a fuck up. We've all been there."

BigChesterDraws · 22/01/2023 22:37

“Literally dying”. No, you’re not. Grow up.
