To be so embarrassed?

Was facebook stalking a new male colleague. No reason really, just wanted to find out more about him.
Not sure how on earth I managed it but I ended up sharing his profile photo on my own page. Been up for at least an hour and sure people from work have seen.
Literally dying of embarrassment

Is he married? If so that’s even worse 😂😂😂. Like imagine being his wife and knowing his work colleague has shared his profile pic.

Oh dear.

twinmum2007 · 20/01/2023 18:46

This is one reason why I am not FB or Insta friends with anyone I work with.
Maybe you were looking him up because he has the same name as someone you went to school with....?

itswednesdayy · 20/01/2023 18:47

No one really uses Facebook, I don’t think anyone would have noticed. Presumably someone would have messaged you/him about it?

Minniliscious · 20/01/2023 18:48

Yes - this has also happened to me 🤣🤣🤦‍♀️

rangagirl · 20/01/2023 18:54

Is there a joke I’m missing here?

Why did you let the photo stay there for an hour? Why not delete it immediately?

I’m also not sure why you’re embarrassed… you went through his profile of PUBLIC information! If there’s anything on there he wants to keep private, it shouldn’t be on the internet at all!

I guess there’s a chance that someone else at work saw what you did. But you don’t have to confess that you were ‘stalking him’ - in fact, I recommend that you do not, because that’s a trigger to get HR involved or something. Stalking is not favourable behaviour when you phrase it like that - even though the truth is that millions of people ‘stalk’ other people’s social media profile, we don’t use that exact phrase with HR!

If anyone questions you, you were checking FB and you made a mistake - you clicked on his profile pic (which is not even something you have to dig deep for) and shared it by mistake. No big deal.

If you play it off as a silly mistake and don’t use the phrase ‘stalking’, then no one will care much. It’s not a big deal. A bit of teasing, maybe, then everyone will forget about it.

I share your pain. I was once nosing through my ex-boyfriend’s photos on Facebook and somehow tagged my own name in a photo of him and his wife. 😳I didn’t know how to undo it so I just unfriended him.

oosha · 20/01/2023 19:06

I would blame my kid and delete the photo with immediate effect.

How would her kid know who the colleague is to search his profile though

oosha · 20/01/2023 19:19

@itswednesdayy my 3 year old clicks profiles randomly on Facebook and has shared stuff before……these kids are so IT literate these days

I read a mumsnet post ages ago where a poster had been facebook stalking her ex, who had recently got married and had a baby. There was a picture on his profile of him, his wife, and their new infant daughter; and the poster somehow managed to tag herself as the baby.

This is hilarious. I am sitting in a cafe just now on my own laughing out loud. I think everyone thinks I am a total weirdo. So so funny!! The baby 😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣

Fivecluckyhens · 20/01/2023 19:22

OP, just see it as an ice breaker opportunity 🤣🤣🤣

Itsnotaferret · 20/01/2023 19:24

I'm trying to feed the baby to sleep and keep waking her up laughing. Absolutely dead as a doornail right now. This is golden!

Hardest I have laughed all day.

Get someone to send a message saying your FB has been hacked.

I like that idea. :-)

4amigos · 20/01/2023 19:45

Oh no 🤦‍♀️ I’d move planet lol

OnTheRoadAgain1 · 20/01/2023 19:48

Might have even been on here but I remember reading about a woman who had a few too many wines and thought she would look up her exes new girlfriend...she kept typing the girlfriends name in the search box with no results but found out the next day she'd typed the girlfriends name repeatedly in the FB 'whats on your mind' box so her name was posted numerous times on the OP's wall (while she still had exes family as 'friends' who saw it!)

I'd just say you meant to add him as a friend seeing as he's new and getting to know people and you must have pressed the wrong button.

My Dsis done something similar. She was Facebook stalking my ex and accidentally shared his profile pic (of him and his new gf) without realising. To make matters worse her MIL (who had no idea who it was) commented saying ‘lovely couple’

Newmum0322 · 20/01/2023 20:08

Style it out… ‘all I tried to do was add you as a friend, bloody phone’!

Then cringe on the inside and wait for the humiliation to fade.

Roco11 · 20/01/2023 20:09

I'd delete it and then if mentioned be honest saying you were nosing at colleagues profiles don't know what happened but you happened to share it by mistake. Then just say that will teach me for being nosey and laugh it off. Good luck xx

Elerandooo · 20/01/2023 20:24

Definitely blame a child if you have one. I have important clients numbers on my phone, so Facebook often recommends them as friends. I’ve had to contact two recently and apologise after my toddler hit the friend request button (it would be unprofessional for me to add them)

BaconChops · 20/01/2023 20:26

This is brilliant 😂 sorry but literally cannot stop laughing! Just the type of thing I’d do. So refreshing to know I’m not alone!!! 😂

Hmm1234 · 20/01/2023 20:29

How quick did you notice you’d share it I doubt many would have seen. Next time block the persons page straight away so no notifications lol
