To think the misogyny directed at Madonna is grim

Obviously Piers Morgan is a monumental arse but his attitude is typical of the misogynistic abuse directed at Madonna. She’s doing a world tour of her 40 years of greatest hits. Mick Jagger, Elton John etc are all also still touring into their 70’s and 80’s and that’s fine as they are ‘legends’ but Madonna, arguably one of greatest female artists ever is tragic and gets loads of abuse for how she dresses, what she wears, how much Botox she has, etc etc.

Total and utter misogyny.

I think it's pretty tragic that ANYONE over 60 feels the need to try and hang on to their youthfulness with such desperation.

Mick Jagger , Madonna, MEH.

Maybe it's just about liking how she looks when she's in front of a mirror, wearing what she likes, hanging out with people she finds interesting, seeing men she finds attractive, performing because she thrives on it.

It doesn't have to mean she's clinging to youth, or pretending to be something she isn't. Maybe she's just genuinely determined to spend her life loving her life. How many of us can truly say that.

@ArseInTheDogBowl lol, literally 2/3rds of the posts on here are about how she should look and behave

At what point can you observe a public figure is being a bit cringeworthy, and it isn't because you just hate all women?

Pete Burns wears literally the same kind of clothes and people point it out - is that because they hate all men?

Although, sadly, Pete Burns died in 2016.

She's an embarrassment for her kids. I feel sorry for them

But you're the one that's saying posters are doing so because of her age and sex. It's impossible to prove one way or another.

I have never understood the love for Madonna. She is talentless, can hardly sing, wrote crappy pop songs, and dressed to shock. She wasn't even attractive. Elton John was a talented singer songwriter in his day. No comparison.

CountZacular · 18/01/2023 20:53

It’s Madonna. She was never going to ‘age gracefully’ and honestly, that’s okay. And Piers is just an obnoxious git about women in general.

But I think it’s always going to hard for women who have spent their lives being idolised for their sex appeal. That’s really a fundamental part of Madonna (the persona, I have no idea what the personal life of ‘Madonna’ is like). I would imagine it’s really hard to navigate in later years when a huge part of their public worth is based on looks and sexuality.

Wow. Then it'd be even weirder for him to be cavorting around in his leathers.

Letshaveablackcelebration2022 · 18/01/2023 20:53

@tobee there are loads of comments about her ‘bizarre’ behaviour - and lots of sexist, ageist nonsense too

OP posts:
ArseInTheDogBowl · 18/01/2023 20:54

No, people aren't saying how she** should behave, however they are saying that how she is currently behaving is odd. No one is giving an opinion on what she should do instead.

I don't care what she does. Of course she should do whatever makes her happy. But when it's publicly posting pics of simulating sex acts with a sauce bottle, people are going to notice and comment, aren't they?

ArseInTheDogBowl · 18/01/2023 20:56

Exactly- like I said- I would view it the same if it were Jagger, Harry Styles, Kylie Jenner. It's not because of her age or sex.

I think it's fair enough if you've always found her to be 'cringeworthy'. She is not everyone's cup of tea after all. But if you have only really thought this in recent years then you should consider why you hold that view because I suspect it's because 'old women' should dress, age and behave a certain way that she doesn't conform to or care about. And all sorts of projection and nasty theories abound but really maybe she has just always loved dressing, acting and behaving a certain way and that didn't stop automatically when she hit a magic age.

SeeYouNextTLol · 18/01/2023 20:58

Madonna needs to act her age

Guavafish1 · 18/01/2023 20:58

Never liked Madonna...too much of an attention seeker.

But some of the stuff is really nasty!

Letshaveablackcelebration2022 · 18/01/2023 20:58

@ArseInTheDogBowl but again you are policing what she does. If it’s not illegal then she can do what she likes- I went to the blonde ambition tour in 1991 where she simulated an orgasm on a bed to Like a Virgin in front of about 100k people in Wembley stadium. She’s always done this sort of stuff and just because she’s over 60 doesn’t mean she has to stop now and start knitting

ArseInTheDogBowl · 18/01/2023 21:02

You do love the hyperbole don't you @Letshaveablackcelebration2022? How am I policing what she does? I couldnt GAF what she does, I can have the opinion that its odd, and not very interesting or original. I really doubt Madonna's bothered.

donttellmehesalive · 18/01/2023 21:03

And even if you dislike her, surely we can all agree that a televised debate about how she looks and behaves is a disgrace. It would be if it was about anyone. Although I expect she'd be happy that we are still talking about her, that she's still controversial.

@donttellmehesalive yes quite.

I mean it’s not like Piers doesn’t have form slagging off other famous American women either is it?!

I find her behaviour bizarre and cringeworthy. Not because she's female, a little bit because she's old. (I'd find it odd if my nan got her baps out on the Internet or if my grandad did a sexy strip... most people would feel that way)

That's what she wants, keeps people talking about her, she is an excellent self-publicist.

Madonna needs to act her age

And what specifically would that entail? How do sixty year old women 'need' to act, and to what end?
