To think the misogyny directed at Madonna is grim

Obviously Piers Morgan is a monumental arse but his attitude is typical of the misogynistic abuse directed at Madonna. She’s doing a world tour of her 40 years of greatest hits. Mick Jagger, Elton John etc are all also still touring into their 70’s and 80’s and that’s fine as they are ‘legends’ but Madonna, arguably one of greatest female artists ever is tragic and gets loads of abuse for how she dresses, what she wears, how much Botox she has, etc etc.

Total and utter misogyny.

I don’t give a shit how she behaves, but stop pretending men aren’t taken the piss out of too.

Letshaveablackcelebration2022 · 18/01/2023 20:27

@bellac11 not ignoring anything. But Madonna puts up with way more shit and some of the posts on this thread just reinforce that

@Theluggage15 so she has to behave in a particular way does she? Says who? The rules that people are making up on this thread about how women should behave as they age are ASTOUNDING!

She can do whatever she wants but other people have the right to say they don't like it. She has always loved publicity and this is one side of it.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 18/01/2023 20:29

I think she is fantastic.

I’ll admit, I wish she hadn’t had loads of fillers but how she dresses and promotes herself? Arses under beds and still creating interesting media and music? BRING IT ON!

She gives zero fucks (and was ever thus) and I applaud her getting up peoples noses. She’s always had amazing talent for shocking and I hope she goes to her grave (but not yet) with her middle finger raised.

You are aware that when humans start behaving in a bizarre, odd and worrying way, it is noticed by other humans who may assing various reasons to that. The person might have MH issues, disorders, be unhappy, might have substance misuse issues.

Thats why people comment on it.

Letshaveablackcelebration2022 · 18/01/2023 20:29

@Theluggage15 you literally just commented on her ‘bizarre’ behaviour 🤷🏻‍♀️

Madonna doesn't give a shit about what anyone is saying, hide of a rhino that woman. And good on her for it.

But people are allowed to, and quite frankly are going to, comment on the ridiculous.

Madonna knows full well what the reaction is going to be and she enjoys the attention.

@bellac11 but is she behaving in bizarre and worrying ways? The comments on here are just reinforcing stereotypes about how women in their 60’s should look and behave.

Cher still tours, Dolly Parton still tours, it’s got nothing to do with her being a older female singer, all to do with her bizarre behaviour. She can age how she likes but people will comment, she’s not exactly a private person.

I think Dolly can do whatever she wants because she is a genius. Funny and kind but quite subversive. She plays with stereotypes and brings you along with her.

I have so much respect for her.

Agreed. Amazing, amazing woman Dolly Parton.

OriginalUsername2 · 18/01/2023 20:35

Awful idea for a show. Very Black Mirror. I hope she doesn’t watch it.

I disagree with the comparisons to male singers of the same age that are still touring. Madonna still looks like she’s seeking sexual validation on stage and on social media. You can’t deny it’s not something we’re used to seeing in experienced women of that age and it’s confusing to me more than anything. I grew out of that in my very early 20’s. But hey ho. No need for a public debate on what a woman’s doing with her life and weather it’s okay if she’s not hurting anyone.

Piers Morgan eh. He thinks he bloody owns the place.

Mellymoon · 18/01/2023 20:38

It’s not misogyny. Madonna IS cringe, she’s lost it and not pretending otherwise is ok.

Letshaveablackcelebration2022 · 18/01/2023 20:40

@OriginalUsername2 but isn’t that what she’s always done- push boundaries? There’s a lot of comments on here about how women should look and behave and frankly it’s depressing for a site mainly filled with women. It’s grim in fact.

People seem horrified that women can want to be sexy and be validated sexually in their 60’s - it’s incredible actually that so many hold that view.

All fucking power to Madonna

BMW6 · 18/01/2023 20:42

I think it's pretty tragic that ANYONE over 60 feels the need to try and hang on to their youthfulness with such desperation.

Mick Jagger , Madonna, MEH.

Letshaveablackcelebration2022 · 18/01/2023 20:42

@Mellymoon says who exactly? Who says she’s lost it?

So much for women supporting women

I think Madonna has experienced ageism for years. She was relatively "older" as a pop star when she became famous at 26 in comparison to the teen pop stars around her, which didn't give her many years of supposed "youth" before she was considered older. Nowadays, that would be fine, but back then, women were written off once they hit 35 It seems.
40 year old popstars nowadays are considered young still, but when Madonna was 40 in 1998, she was considered over the hill, as that's how 40 somethings were thought of back then.
Times have changed, and nowadays, when you think of Pink, Britney, even Kim Kardashian, who are all in their 40s and aren't considered "old." Even Kylie and JLo in their 50s are considered sexy and "still got it."
Madonna was caught in that generation where once you hit your 30s and 40s, you weren't considered sexy anymore or young, but I like to think she played some part in changing the attitudes of society who thought women should just "die" when they hit 40 (which is actually a quote from Madonna herself.)

butterfliedtwo · 18/01/2023 20:43

She can do whatever she wants. People are allowed to think it's cringe. Honestly, she has always been provocative and gotten attention for it. I'm old enough to remember the Like a Prayer and Erotica years. There's nothing new about this.

AllOfThemWitches · 18/01/2023 20:44

Well she is not being as mercilessly ripped to shreds as a certain male public figure at least.

donttellmehesalive · 18/01/2023 20:46

Have always loved her. She's never given a shit what anyone else thinks about her and she still doesn't. I expect she'd find it hilarious that some British mums think she should age gracefully or that Piers Morgan might prefer her to wear a cardi and hang out with people her own age. I doubt we'll see her like again but god bless her for trying to show women of a certain age that we can do what the fuck we like in our own, one life.

ConcordeOoter · 18/01/2023 20:47

At what point can you observe a public figure is being a bit cringeworthy, and it isn't because you just hate all women?

Pete Burns wears literally the same kind of clothes and people point it out - is that because they hate all men?

No one has commented on how women should look or behave. They've pointed out that how Madonna is behaving is strange. It would be strange if Mick Jagger did it. It would be strange if Kylie Jenner did it. It would be strange if Harry Styles did it. It's just strange behaviour regardless of age or sex.

I don't really see showing her arse as 'pushing boundaries'. It's not like she, or anyone else, hasn't done it before, is it?

silverclock222 · 18/01/2023 20:48

Jagger is a joke. Elton and Dolly attempt to keep it fun. Madonna is plain embarrassing!

Letshaveablackcelebration2022 · 18/01/2023 20:48

@donttellmehesalive YES! Bloody right! All the pearl clutching on here is a bit scary and reinforcing the idea that women should stay in the boxes society has created for them
