Yoghurt Gate - WIBU?

With all the famine and BS going on in the world now, I’ll start off by apologising for the absolute ridiculousness of this AIBU. Just light hearted to see opinions…we have a demanding toddler so are constantly tired and grumpy. Get ready for it…

Our rule book toddler has a yoghurt and fruit in the mornings before nursery, I knew yesterday when I left for work there was ONE left.

Finished work got him for nursery (DH works lates) After his dinner last night he wanted a yoghurt, I said no as there’s only one and you’ll be sad if you don’t have a yoghurt in the morning, took some convincing cus, you know, toddlers!

on DH way home from work he called & asked if we needed anything from the shop, I said well probably yoghurts, he said no we have yoghurts. Before going to bed it became apparent DH had eaten said magical yoghurt before he went to work.

Cut to this morning! toddler has thrown a ‘Tom Cruise on set’ style fit due to the lack of yoghurts in this establishment.

DH came upstairs to me ranting that I shouldn’t have promised a yoghurt without checking, and even though he said there were yoghurts I should have checked in case he’d eaten it and didn’t remember - because how should he know right?

YNBU - DH should be aware of his actions like a grown up without input from his wife and, moreover should also be living in constant fear of the day there is no yoghurts

YABU - I should have checked when he said there were yoghurts as how can a poor bloke recall if he’s eaten the last yoghurt…who can be expected to recall 8 hours ago

Finally (if you made it this far) - this is only meant to be lighthearted, DH is not abusive and is a truly wonderful man but it does infuriate me he has no forethought at all and when things go wrong it’s my fault for not stepping in…

I just like to remind people that OP asks a question and requests answers on that, not on randoms choice of yoghurts and swirls of honey, because that shit is irrelevant.

I mean who gives a fuck what you think of swirls of honey in yoghurt 😆

@dogdaydown who do you think you are 'reminding people' how they can post. Go get a job at MN if you want to police posters.

I care about people shovelling sugar into babies/toddlers when they're happy with. Healthier alternative. The OP can choose to think about changing the Y they give their toddler, or not. That's up to her.

so DFOD

How dairy!!!!

🏆 congratulations! You have won the Internet! 😆

dogdaydown · 19/01/2023 05:39

@DadANDPK no one's interested in your thoughts on yoghurts, swirls if honey or frozen fruit!

Unsolicited criticism advice is not required.

Go get a job as a dietician and answer questions when asked? Rather than trawling MN and heading out your judgements advice.

HTH?

@DadANDPK if you’d like to come and present this alternative to our leader, please be prepared to be wearing the Greek yoghurt and fruit and swirls of honey.

In all seriousness though, once you’ve added enough honey and fruit to make it palatable for a toddler it would probably contain more sugar per gram than his normal Yog (natural sugars obvs yes I know) - but thanks for the trip down Parent Guilt Lane…We also used disposable nappies, unsure how you feel about that 😅

Aside from the absolute gobbledygook, there’s no indication that OP is “shovelling” sugar into her child ffs you hyperbolic nob. This could be the only sweet thing her child gets for all you know. Wind your neck in.

Oh lord! @MullerCornerMorons you made me laugh today and I love your writing style.

All of us are dicks sometimes. It doesn't mean we should LTB. It's only on Mumsnet where there are perfect marriages.

Bar abuse, we all have moments where our spouses irritate us. It's life.

heartbroken22 · 19/01/2023 09:45

@MullerCornerMorons which yoghurt does your toddler have? As funny as this thread has become just wanted to let you know I'm serious. My nearly 2 year old doesn't eat yoghurt so any recommendations I'll be happy to have.

I think OP has made it clear she doesn't appreciate the criticism advice, that should be enough for the PP.

@MullerCornerMorons

that's simply not true, most toddlers enjoy Greek Y, but if they're used to petite filou or very sweet Y you can add fruit &/honey to transition them and make it look inviting. T. It also comes in BIG TUBS & is less likely DH will just snaffle it.

It was just a suggestion. 🤷🏻‍♀️

RachelSq · 19/01/2023 10:08

There’s certain things in our house that we know never to take the last of for ourselves (or take more than expected so that they’d be an issue later). In this case yoghurts would definitely be covered here!

I’d be particularly cross if husband declined to buy what I said we needed by saying we had them when we didn’t.

Do you think he actually knows he’s in the wrong and is trying to deflect?

Hydrangeatea · 19/01/2023 11:49

MullerCornerMorons · 18/01/2023 17:01

Some of you still gunning for DH even after I’ve responded I see, poor Donkey Dick.

YES! I agree he did a knobbish thing this morning, hence the post,
but I promise he’s not a knob overall. I’d be very interested in hearing about all your wonderful DH’s who’d obviously easily be able to suck up a TTTC verbal thrashing before presumably nipping out to buy you flowers because your hair looks pretty today and then serenading you with poetry hed written whilst NOT pooping at home, as he has more respect for you than that?

In reality this is what marriage is like when knee deep with a toddler though, your tired and grumpy with no time for yourself or each other, sleep deprived and snippy with each other. I won’t be holding on to this > until the next time when I’ll gladly throw it in his face of course!

IMO, may be unpopular, but as others have pointed out the real abuser here is TTTC, Nicole Kidman knew it, Katie Holmes knew it and yet here we all are, scared to speak out about the little tyrants ruling our lives…is there a support group I can join?

I am not gunning for him, I just pointed out he was a knob for asking what you wanted at the supermarket and then ignoring you when you said what you wanted.

Sort of thing my husband would do too and I also refer to him as a knob (or a twat they are interchangeable) for this type of behaviour.

Not once in my post did I say my DH was perfect :)

@heartbroken22 And your asking Moi?! Weren’t you aware this thread has a resident paediatric dietician?

If your happy to take advice from a sugar shovelling slut (oooo poss future NC?) then we started off with Rachel’s Organics, but they became quite hard to find. His Y of choice currently is blueberry Oykos but he loves all Ys and while not the worst, theyre not the healthiest of choices, if yours isent keen on Ys at all but you wanted a healthier treat it probably is worth taking @WouldBeNiceToSleep advice and putting a bit of Greek yoghurt, fruit,
honey etc in a cute little glass so it’s seems appealing - you could probably get away with chia seeds too and call them sprinkles 🤣

Ark at me being a Yog aficionado

@Hydrangeatea - It was all in jest no offence taken, I did post after the one you’d quoted there to say actually I’d realised I started off the thread mid argument and raging and then once we’d made up I was defending him, go figure!

I think there’s a direct correlation between being allowed to be an occasional dick biscuit to your spouse and the homicide rate in this country. Gotta get that rage out people!

@MullerCornerMorons thanks I'll have a look at those. You're choices are quite healthy to me 😂 I thought you were being bashed for the peppa pig yoghurts or something. We've tried greek yoghurt but my eldest said it tasted really bad even with fruit in it. I'd rather buy something they eat rather than something that goes in the bin.
