How often do you wash your towels?

Not AIBU but didn’t know where to put this. We are a family of 5 with 3 teenage boys so lots of showers. I don’t seem to have any system when washing towels, just take a few off the heated towel rail every few days. What do others do, wash them every day, all the towels once or twice a week?

All towels once a week, tea towels twice a week, hand towel in kitchen ditto.

I wash mine every hour, along with everything else.

I have several washing machines so certain things don't contaminate others.

I have to pay a fortune to rent a house with a garage big enough.

I have one for underwear, one for tea towels, one for towels, one for sheets and one for clothes.

I have a few driers too so I can keep on top of the drying, my machines run constantly. I sleep in the utility so the bleeps wake me up so I can put new loads in.

😂 I get the point!

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 16/01/2023 17:31

Weekly and each family member has a different colour, so no confusion over whose towels is whose. When guests stay towels are washed straight away.

Leadbridge · 16/01/2023 17:33

I only have white towels - we just put them in the washing basket when the either look dirty or we think we've used it long enough. They might be washed after one use or a whole week. I just put a whites wash on every time enough stuff (pretty much towels, white T shirts and socks) has built up - there is no set routine.

CoffeandTiaMaria · 16/01/2023 17:48

Different colour bath towel per person, washed weekly.
Bathroom hand towel changed twice a week.
Kitchen towel/drying up cloths/dishcloth every other day because they seem to get ready grubby (looking at you DH)
There’s a heated towel rail in the bathroom so bath towels dry quickly.

@Zola1 I assume you wash Pjs every day too and everything else?

Yes. Pyjamas and uniforms are daily.

@Perfectpeace no not incensed but Mumsnet at times is a very unusual place. No one I know washes towels for a whole family every day. Not even close

I know plenty of people who do.. we both work full time in a demanding job (child protection), have a house full of kids who do sports etc, me and partner both go to the gym. We are busy. It's just part of our routine.

pinkpotatoez · 16/01/2023 19:47

Hair and body towels once a week but have own towels per person and hand/face towels get switched twice a week

Suzi888 · 16/01/2023 19:48

Once a day.

snowtrees · 16/01/2023 19:51

@Zola1 hats off to you but I have no idea where I'd dry all that every day. Washer on prob every other day for something but not every day

notforonesecond · 16/01/2023 19:55

Bathroom hand towel once a week.

Bath sheets…no idea. When I remember/have room in the machine. We don’t share and they get hung up after every use, never been an issue.

Oblomov22 · 16/01/2023 19:57

Christ. I need to wash ours more often clearly. Ours never get dirty, never smell. I mean if you get out of the shower and dry yourself, hey don't get 'dirty' do they?

How on earth are people drying so many towels & the costs !!

Mine go outside or on a ceiling airier. I don’t have a tumble drier.

HP87 · 16/01/2023 20:01

Every other week. Bedsheets one week and towels the other week. Always on a Tues as its my first working from home day of the week. 2 adults and 3 kids here (7,2, and a baby) everyone has their own bath towel. With three teenagers I'd probably do them once a week.

Oblomov22 · 16/01/2023 20:02

All this over washing is overzealous and unnecessary.

bakewellbride · 16/01/2023 21:16

Tea towel daily.
Bath towels twice a week Monday and Thursday
Bathroom hand towel every couple of days

If you can find them! Or if you have enough to last a week.
Sorry...I know it's a cliche, but I do think most teenagers go through a phase of just not seeing stuff or...how shall I put it...not abiding by house rules.

Mine does hang them back on the towel rail now. Next stage is to hang them in such a way that they dry.

Glitterybee · 16/01/2023 22:10

Everyday straight after use

I look forward to that in a few years 😂

Everyday straight after use“

Why?

Theoldwoman · 17/01/2023 13:18

After three uses. Tea towels after each use. Hand towels I swap daily.

Theoldwoman · 17/01/2023 13:44

Maybe all the posters who say 2-3 weeks or more should google how often to wash bath towels. You may be surprised.

Why does it matter though? I hang them up to dry after use, they haven't got dirt on, don't smell weird and I'm not licking them or wiping my bum with them
So if it's 2 weeks before it's washed it's not doing any harm
I get out the shower, wrap it round me and do my face wash/clean the shower and then hang it up
