How often do you wash your towels?

Not AIBU but didn’t know where to put this. We are a family of 5 with 3 teenage boys so lots of showers. I don’t seem to have any system when washing towels, just take a few off the heated towel rail every few days. What do others do, wash them every day, all the towels once or twice a week?

Family of 6 (2xadults, 2xteens, 2x younger dc) We use a towel 2-3x ( same towel for each person) Probably wash 2-3x a week just towels, hot wash at 50.

snowtrees · 15/01/2023 22:33

Ye we have two each ( up & down stairs) but I'd still never wash more than every 10-12 uses

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 15/01/2023 22:27

Have one each?

Exactly! I can't think anyone shares bath towels.......do they 🤷‍♀️

Frosty1000 · 15/01/2023 22:34

Once a week here - we have our own and so I do a towel wash on a Monday along with bath mats.

I think my DC swap theirs about a bit and they wipe their toothpastey faces on theirs. They do know better than to touch my towel 😂

Can I ask an odd question without judgement?
where do you keep all these in use towels?

family I grew up in had some questionable hygiene habits 1 towel for whole family for weeks.
Now got 2 kids of my own and not sure how to not share towels?

1 small shower room with heated rail in house. 2 adults, 2 preschool kids.
Where should I keep 4 on the go towels? We normally have them hanging over doors to dry, but do share/don’t have a colour each.

I have a little unit in the bathroom that fits 4 clean ones and then I have a rack with 4 hooks on the back of the bathroom door for the 4 in use. When the bathroom door is open (which is always) it blocks the radiator, so the towels are over it, iyswim, so in the winter they get dry pretty quickly

Towel hook each in bedrooms.

TinaYouFatLard · 15/01/2023 22:38

@FuckOffPeroids you need a colour coded towel system and hooks on the back of the door.

MasterBeth · 15/01/2023 22:39

Why does anyone wash a towel after one use? Don't you clean yourself properly in the shower or bath?

When I come out of the shower, I am beautifully clean and sweet-smelling. I use a towel to dry off the last of the clean water that I have been using to rinse myself off. Why the fuck do I need to then wash the towel??!

7eleven · 15/01/2023 22:40

change bath towels once a week, but dry my ‘bits’ with a flannel that then goes in the washing basket. Hand towel is changed about three times a week.

AhNowTed · 15/01/2023 22:40

When the start to look a bit suspect 😂

EveSix · 15/01/2023 22:40

Swimming towel goes in the machine as soon as it's been used (swimming day coincides with laundry day).
Bath towels may be replaced more frequently, but I only do laundry of any description once a week.

123woop · 15/01/2023 22:40

We don't have a heated towel rail so usually after one or two uses for "body" towels, and definitely if they've been used to wrap up my hair as they get soaked! Hand towels at least once a week, sometimes twice depending on usage

Nowdontmakeamess · 15/01/2023 22:41

Bath towels once a week, every Sunday. Hand towels daily.

My DC's swimming towels go in after every use because they smell so chloriney. But they only take in large hand towels to dry themselves, so they don't take much washing

UnctuousUnicorns · 15/01/2023 22:41

Weekly, everyone has their own towel that hangs on a rack in their bedroom, or in the case of DH and me, on a stand on the landing. DD3 and I both use towelling robes as well, which get washed with the towels. All at 60°.

Gatehouse77 · 15/01/2023 22:43

Everyone as their own towels.
DH and I wash ours weekly including bath mat, hand towel, etc.

The (adult) children are responsible for their own. They've been brought up with weekly but don't stick to it. Mostly through laziness.

TheLizardQueen · 15/01/2023 22:43

Wow!! We wash our towels after every use, I wouldn’t have thought to do anything else. When I dry my arse or feet I don’t want to use the same towel the next day to dry my face!!

Who has told you that you need to wash the towel after one use? Do what you want and consider why you get so angry about how often other people wash theirs. Of all the things to get het up about

UnctuousUnicorns · 15/01/2023 22:45

I also use microfibre turbans when I wash my hair, usually every third day. They get chucked in with the whites afterwards.

Do you not wash your arse in the shower?

We did when I was a child…until I realised that not everyone was very hygienic😳. I’m pretty sure that a lot of people just sit in the bath and don’t actually wash their bottoms.

Soproudoflionesses · 15/01/2023 22:45

Not very often at all if l am honest.
Just think l am clean when l use them so they don't need washing very often! They dry on the towel warmer. Plus l have enough washing to do without making more work for myself.
