How often do you wash your towels?

Not AIBU but didn’t know where to put this. We are a family of 5 with 3 teenage boys so lots of showers. I don’t seem to have any system when washing towels, just take a few off the heated towel rail every few days. What do others do, wash them every day, all the towels once or twice a week?

Can I ask an odd question without judgement?
where do you keep all these in use towels?

family I grew up in had some questionable hygiene habits 1 towel for whole family for weeks.
Now got 2 kids of my own and not sure how to not share towels?

1 small shower room with heated rail in house. 2 adults, 2 preschool kids.
Where should I keep 4 on the go towels? We normally have them hanging over doors to dry, but do share/don’t have a colour each.

We have heated radiators in bathrooms and hooks on doors. Fine for post shower towels. We each have own (colours) BUT I'd not be able to dry 8 washed towels every week

WaitingForSummertime · 15/01/2023 22:46

Anything from once a week to three weeks for the bath towels. Just whenever I remember and the usually wait until the weather means there's a bit of sun so the solar panels have kicked in. We have a heated towel rail in the winter, and hang them outside just about every day the rest of the year, so they don't stay damp enough to get smelly. And, like others have said, I'm using them on a freshly washed body, so they aren't exactly dirty.

After every use here

Season0fTheWitch · 15/01/2023 22:48

Bath- fresh one every day, the kids usually 2 towels per week each

Hand-changed every other day/when dirty or wet

Tea-every day, fresh one every morning

StrawHatOnTheParcelShelf · 15/01/2023 22:50

I wash my own every 2 or 3 days. I'll sweep the teens' towels up along with everything else when I'm doing a weekly bathroom clean - up to them if they want to get a fresh one more often.

After every use here

However, family of 6 (2 adults, kids are 13, 8, 4 and 2). All I ever do is wash, at least 2 loads a day with everyone's towel, pyjamas, uniforms etc 🤣

LemonPledge555 · 15/01/2023 22:50

Once a week I make an effort to do a towel wash. Includes the bath mats too. Only 3 of us, 2 adults and DC6.

How the F do people washing towels daily get them dry?!!

snowtrees · 15/01/2023 22:50

How on earth are people drying so many towels & the costs !!

Snugglemonkey · 15/01/2023 22:52

The hand towels in the kitchen, family bathroom and downstairs toilet, every other day as I think they get most use. The hand towels in the en suites, when I clean them, so every 5 to 7 days depending on how on top of things I am. The bath towels, my own every other day, also dp's, the children twice weekly.

ForfuckssakeEXHstopbeingatwat · 15/01/2023 22:52

@TheLizardQueen but your arse and feet are clean. It's just skin. Presumably you're not wedging it up your bumcrack ? I really don't get it. Obviously, each to their own and I'm not one to bang on about environmental concerns really but I genuinely don't get why people are so phobic about their own skin.

That's an insane amount of washing. I couldn't afford that even if I wanted to.

TheOnlyAletheia · 15/01/2023 22:52

Once a week mainly. If you don’t share towels surely washing them everyday is not necessary and environmentally unfriendly 🤷‍♀️

Colour coded towels. Mine are mustard yellow, DH grey and DC pink. There’s two of each. Plus hand towels in each colour/for specific bathrooms.

Hooks in bathrooms on back of door/shower screen. Hand towel loop things next to sinks.

MaryDerry · 15/01/2023 22:55

Average week - once in washing machine tumble dryer or outside. Hand towels more often.
Heated towel rail helps stop musty smell

If there's illness in the house then those towels are constantly washed.

Perfectpeace · 15/01/2023 22:44

Who has told you that you need to wash the towel after one use? Do what you want and consider why you get so angry about how often other people wash theirs. Of all the things to get het up about

Not angry, but curious. Don't you clean yourself in the shower? How is your towel getting dirty during one use?

snowtrees · 15/01/2023 22:56

@Zola1 I assume you wash Pjs every day too and everything else?

Derrymum123 · 15/01/2023 22:56

After each use.

MasterBeth · 15/01/2023 22:58

TheLizardQueen · 15/01/2023 22:43

Wow!! We wash our towels after every use, I wouldn’t have thought to do anything else. When I dry my arse or feet I don’t want to use the same towel the next day to dry my face!!

Do you not clean your arse properly in the shower?

snowtrees · 15/01/2023 22:58

Maybe I ought to give up work to do all the laundry that people seem to do. And build an extension to dry it all

PMAmostofthetime · 15/01/2023 23:00

Perfectpeace · 15/01/2023 22:09

Honestly, after each use

Me too- I was reading this post thinking Whoa am I the only one.
Hand towels in the the bathroom changed daily too.

TinaYouFatLard · 15/01/2023 23:01

It would take me two loads a day to wash all the towels. Bath sheets are huge.

Itisbetter · 15/01/2023 23:01

Bath towels twice a week, hand towels every day. Sometimes I can’t be arsed and skip a whole week…no one has died.

RewildingAmbridge · 15/01/2023 23:02

@FuckOffPeroids there are only 3 of us, mine and DHs go on the heated towel rail, DS' in his bedroom on a hook above/next to his radiator. The hand towel in the bathroom has its own rail, the teatowels mainly live on the door handles to the oven. I have mustard, DH has dark blue, both the same pattern/set and D's has a couple of different children's patterned ones one has clouds and the other planes. My hair towel turban things go on a hook on the inside of the airing cupboard door in between uses.

In the summer probably a bit more often coz of sweat

You've washed the sweat off in the shower though?
