How often do you wash your towels?

Not AIBU but didn’t know where to put this. We are a family of 5 with 3 teenage boys so lots of showers. I don’t seem to have any system when washing towels, just take a few off the heated towel rail every few days. What do others do, wash them every day, all the towels once or twice a week?

We each use our own towel for a week and then they all get washed. We've got plenty of towel rails for them to dry OK.

yikesanotherbooboo · 15/01/2023 22:14

Once a week unless the towels are obviously dirty or smelly.

TaRaDeBumDeAy · 15/01/2023 22:15

I wash mine every hour, along with everything else.

I have several washing machines so certain things don't contaminate others.

I have to pay a fortune to rent a house with a garage big enough.

I have one for underwear, one for tea towels, one for towels, one for sheets and one for clothes.

I have a few driers too so I can keep on top of the drying, my machines run constantly. I sleep in the utility so the bleeps wake me up so I can put new loads in.

snowtrees · 15/01/2023 22:15

Every 2-3 weeks max. We all have our own and shower prob 5 out of 7 days. So washed after 10-12 uses

ThePoshUns · 15/01/2023 22:15

Weekly but we may use 1 or 2 a week each

ForfuckssakeEXHstopbeingatwat · 15/01/2023 22:15

@Perfectpeace can I ask why? Not trying to start a fight, I just don't get why it's necessary after you've patted down your clean body, that you'd need to wash it straight away.

snowtrees · 15/01/2023 22:16

@ForfuckssakeEXHstopbeingatwat Agree. We are clean when we use them. They don't get dirty. We dry them on radiators. Not sure why I'd need to wash them very often

Gandalfsdaughter · 15/01/2023 22:16

Every Friday I chuck all towels I can find together in the machine - 4 x bathsheets but sometimes more if someone used more than 1 during the week, some hand towels, tea towels, cleaning cloths.

By doing it every Friday, it doesn’t take up any headspace: all together washed in the morning, dryer in afternoon, folded away before dinner 👍

pawprintseverywhere · 15/01/2023 22:17

About every 4 days family of 3 but we don't share towels.

When they start to lose the fresh smell, maybe once a week, and I don’t wash them all together, just throw them in with whatever else I’m washing as and when.

RewildingAmbridge · 15/01/2023 22:18

I do a towel load once a week, but that's two sets, DH and I have different coloured towels and DS has patterned children's ones, we dint share them, I use the microfibre turban towel things for my hair so they are small and very light. They all get used for 3/4 days hung in between uses, then go into the laundry basket and fresh ones come out, hand towel changed at the same time. On a Sunday I wash the lot and the bath mat. We have a large capacity washing machine though. I like to do them separately as I wash them on 60 , without softener to make them more absorbent, but do use laundry cleanser for fragrance/freshness as well as detergent.

Ikeameatballs · 15/01/2023 22:18

Why would you wash them daily? They have been used to dry clean, washed people. What a waste of time and energy (I mean electricity more than human effort).

Sotellmethisandnomore · 15/01/2023 22:19

Every 3 weeks sounds a bit manky.

OdeToBarney · 15/01/2023 22:20

Once a week. After every use is just ridiculous and 3 weeks is pushing it a bit for my liking, although we may well have been there at points this last year or so... it's been a rough ride with a new (then new and poorly) baby!

mogtheexcellent · 15/01/2023 22:23

Fortnightly. Hand towels weekly as DH filthy hands and washes them loads.

dudsville · 15/01/2023 22:24

In winter and summer when they dry thoroughly between uses then i wash them once a week, on towel washing day - everything has a day allocated so that we stay on top of it and the house doesn't get over run with drying laundry.

In autumn and spring it depends on the weather, but could be a frequently as twice a week and it's a minor additional faff.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 15/01/2023 22:25

I put myself in the washing machine with the towels every day, just to make sure they never get dirty. Anything else would be irredeemably grim.

(Once a week. Ish. When I remember, basically.)

snowtrees · 15/01/2023 22:25

We use them 10-12 times for 5 min.
They are dried. I don't have facility to dry soaking wet towels every few days

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 15/01/2023 22:25

Twice a week. I gather all our individual towels, the hand towels in bathrooms and bath mats and put them on a hot wash then tumble dry them. Usually do it on a Sunday and Thursday.

I think it’s the idea of using a towel another person has wiped their intimate parts with! I know it’s extreme and unnecessary but I can’t help it.

I have lots of towels and there are only 3 of us so I don’t have the washing machine going constantly!

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 15/01/2023 22:26

We all have our own towels. They all get hung up to dry after use. Get washed weekly... Ish.. more in the summer as I dry them outside then.

Have one each?

SharonEllis · 15/01/2023 22:30

Absolute max once a week, usually leave them a bit longer, maybe up to once every two weeks. We only use our towels to dry our clean bodies after we have showered or washed, and we are careful to hang them up properly on heated towel rail/radiator so they dry between uses, so have absolutely no idea why they would need to be washed more often! I hope those cleaning them so frequently wash them on a quick, low temp wash.

maddiemookins16mum · 15/01/2023 22:32

Weekly at present.
