Can we PLEASE have a BALANCED SAHM v WOHM conversation, without it being personal PLEASE??

I find this debate interesting and thought provoking. But the other thread cannot be balanced as it is Xenia V the rest of mumsnet, or so it seems. That is neither fair on Xenia, nor does it promote a balanced response.

So if you want do do the SAHM debate then lets do it here (xenia too, if you can be arsed!). But no responses to previous posts are allowed

LEM puffs out her ample chest and feels all, BOSSY

wohm are big bad wolves, sahm are delicate lambs

kayzr · 05/02/2008 13:30

I'd love to be a sahm but its not possible. Saying that deep down I love my 16 hours at work as I can catch up on all the gossip

lucyellensmum · 05/02/2008 13:30

oh i didnt think of that!

Well then what about sharing experiences.

I'll start:
I like being a SAHM because i get to share in all DDs milestones. I love being with her and i feel that she needs me. She is 2.5. I find her challenging and stimulating and i couldnt bear to be away from her just now.

I don't like being a SAHM sometimes because it can be lonely and repetitive. I do find i miss an intellectual challenge and i miss my work friends.

I liked being a working mum because i had intellectual stimulation, i had lots of friends and i enjoyed my job. I also felt it was a positive role model for DD1.

I didnt like being a working mum because i feel I missed out on alot of DD1 growing up and i wasnt there for her as much as i should have been. I regret that.

WideWebWitch · 05/02/2008 13:31

Wohms are forever DUMPING their children in godforsaken childcare. They NEVER see them, sometimes they couldn't pick them out in an identity parade.

SAHMS love kittens and are pink and the best

cornsilk · 05/02/2008 13:31

Well I've been both and the grass always looks greener etc.

I am neither lamb like or delicate

lucyellensmum · 05/02/2008 13:33

pulls mrs ruffallo off of hatrick - seconds out!

OP posts:
MrsMattie · 05/02/2008 13:33

Yes - the 'versus' is preposterous@hatrick

In the blue corner - looking a bit soft around the edges there (must be all those home-baked brownies) and with snot and puke smeared down the shorts her husband bought her - it's the SAHM!

In the red corner - high on Frappucinos and screaming 'Hurry the fuck up! The childminder charges me by the minute if I'm late home!'...it's the WOHM!

ding! Ding!

ROUND 1

mrsruffallo · 05/02/2008 13:34

ooh, get her (typical wohm)

Nbg · 05/02/2008 13:35

i like being a sahm because it means i dont have to be arsed doing things that other people tell me to do.

staying at home being silly, talking gibberish, painting and watching cartoons

or

being out of the house first thing in either a uniform or a blooody suit, being bossed about and bored.

No contest imo!

But sahm is not for everyone so each to their own.
Thats my 2p worth anyway.

lucyellensmum · 05/02/2008 13:35

i like kittens (they are ok) i abhor pink!!!!
