To wonder where Margot Robbie's internal organs are.... see Vanity Fair cover

This is not an intention to body shame - but I find the cover shot of Margot Robbie on Vanity Fair quite shocking. And unnecessary 😥
I have been just as thin, and was classed as underweight and diagnosed with an eating disorder.
I hope I'm not the only one who wonders what the next level for stars might be, if this is an aspirational "look". And for us regular humans.

She's leaning at an angle and sucking in. And has contouring make up on/photoshop. But she looks like a normal healthy slim woman to me.

Don’t be ridiculous

FellOnMyArseToDay · 14/01/2023 20:42

Healthy looks different on everybody
strong looks different on everybody
slim looks different on everybody
curvy looks different on every body.

stop body shaming slim women. This is utterly cruel and triggering for a lot of people. Not talking to OP, though I hope your recovery continues to be going well.

Theyaregrowinguphelp · 14/01/2023 20:42

I agree OP she is giving off a really inappropriate vibe, yes whilst rational people can se she has been photo shopped and is sucking her stomach in, I don’t think this is the a healthy image at all - and not one we should be showing our daughters

DillDanding · 14/01/2023 20:43

I was actually thinking about my dog and the vet. We’re told you should be able to feel his ribs. The same should apply to humans, but nowadays people think that’s unhealthy. It’s perverse.

BunchHarman · 14/01/2023 20:43

Nicecow · 14/01/2023 20:40

It was implied when you said fat wasn't normal vis a vis this is normal and therefore anything that isn't this is fat 🤷🏼‍♀️

Well, much bigger would be fat. My point was (surely it was clear?) that this is a healthy woman with a healthy body. That people are so shocked and find her ‘revoltingly thin’ means that society no longer sees a healthy body as such, and instead sees it as an extreme. This suggests being bigger has become ‘normal’, which I don’t think should be the case, health conditions excepting.

Bagsundermyeyestoday · 14/01/2023 20:32

I hope you don't have daughters or granddaughters 😒

If you think this woman is too thin, you should unpack why. She is a healthy weight

LoveMyPiano · 14/01/2023 20:45

It was an observation, and not intended as body-shaming.. I did not, also , say that she particularly is "skinny" - rather that a wider discussion has opened up about the modelling industry, to which of course, the movies are closely aligned.

My thread title was, as I said, facetious - I do understand human anatomy. But I maintain that it is not a great pose, photoshop job, or image for the cover. That's my opinion.

I am not at all talking about her weight -and understand all body TYPES, eccto-, endo- and meso-morphic. She is probably an endomorph.

I do not have a distorted view of bodies, my own or anyone else's, eating disorder aside. And BMI measurement is well-known to have been invented to measure GROUPS of people, not individuals.

I have never subscribed to using all the numbers for health - apart from the truly scientific ones - such as fat % , heart rates, and blood pressure. Dress sizes BMIs and even actual weight are not to be followed slavishly - but rather aiming to health and feeling well. BUT - young girls and ladies now growing up would get a distorted view of what they should be happy with, body-wise, if inundated with images like this - of people they may look up to and admire in some way.

And breathing OUT is what makes abdomens go "in", not out. Try it.

I actually think she looks very fit and healthy, and her tummy has a layer of smooth fat. Quite a positive physical role model compared to many others.

Whatatimetobealivetoday · 14/01/2023 19:50

Just Googled it and I think you’re wrong here sorry. You can have body fat and be healthy and still have this figure and indeed internal organs. She’s cleverly posed and probably breathing in.

I say this as a recovering eating disorder sufferer who is currently overweight and you can still see my ribs when i breathe in. I’m tall and it’s just my figure.

Not that Margot Robbie is overweight, she looks healthy and fine!!

This cover picture does not look healthy but I goggled and there were other photos where she looked very slim but not unhealthy.

GoingOnce · 14/01/2023 20:46

I still can’t believe how successful Donna from Neighbours became. I used to watch her when I had my first baby. She was a very captivating actress even then, really stood out from the crowd. She couldn’t have dreamed she’d one day be cavorting with Brad Pitt and Leo di Caprio on the red carpet!

I agree with this. I’d rather see a flexed bicep or strong legs. The intimation that ribby is desirable leaves me feeling a bit uncomfortable. And I say that as someone whose BMI is 19.4.

Not on.

You’d never get away with saying ‘she’s revoltingly fat’.

I know she's so talented!

BunchHarman · 14/01/2023 20:48

This is not an underweight woman. She’s fucking glorious.

This is not an intention to body shame - but...

What else is it?

See my longer response. I can talk about this - let's face it , it's the front cover of a well-known magazine- without being accused of body-shaming, I would hope.

Although it seems not.

She looks strong imo.

I looked quite like this a few years ago before putting on weight. I don't agree with aspiring to thin, but strong yes

Dita73 · 14/01/2023 20:48

She looks fabulous. She’s not “skinny” or “thin”. She has a great figure and looks really healthy. Good luck to her

BunchHarman · 14/01/2023 20:40

I’m mid 30s. For breakfast I had two cups of tea, a toasted wholemeal bagel with butter and jam, a banana and then a cup of coffee. For lunch I had a big bowl of vegetable soup and two crumpets with butter. For dinner I had a huge bowl of wholemeal spaghetti with tomatoes, harissa, prawns and some green veg blanched and griddled and stirred through. Plus four dough balls. And 2.5l of water, plus a couple more cups of tea throughout the day.

I don’t snack much (water helps with that) and I don’t add unnecessary sat fat to meals, though I do eat a lot of unsaturated fats by way of avocados, nuts, olive oil (not heated - alters state).

Thank you very much 🙏

JaninaDuszejko · 14/01/2023 20:50

While I agree that a human with a healthy BMI should be able to see their ribs (children in particular) I think this photo of her in this dress in this pose with all the makeup and photoshopping (the shadow between the right arm and waist in particular) has produced a distorted image that creates an aspirational underweight look even if margot robbie is not herself underweight (and looking at paparazzi shots of her she's not underweight).

Catchtwentyone · 14/01/2023 20:50

She looks fine!! Slim for sure, but perfectly healthy. I looked like that until my 40s hit (not with the same beautiful face though sadly). I was healthy and ate normally. It really is possible to naturally be slim and toned.

georgarina · 14/01/2023 20:51

She looks fine and like a 'regular human' to me.

If I passed her on the street I wouldn't class her as particularly thin, just normal.

HeyItsPickleRick · 14/01/2023 20:51

I don’t think she looks unhealthy at all. If I suck in you can see every rib and I’m bang in the middle of healthy BMI with a fair bit of the wobble you’d expect on a mum of three.

I've seen emaciated models and agree that is sad and not to be idolised, but I think she looks healthy.

Huge over reaction. This is not a dangerous or corrupting image. Everyone should aspire to be slim, it’s not always achievable of course but keeping excess weight within a reasonable range is the best example we can give to girls and young women. Keeping weight off and having a strong body is the best defence against multiple illnesses and mobility issues in later life.

LlynTegid · 14/01/2023 20:54

Perhaps they were left in Clapham given that Margot Robbie resided there a few years ago!

OP, I agree with your sentiment about the cover.
