To wonder where Margot Robbie's internal organs are.... see Vanity Fair cover

This is not an intention to body shame - but I find the cover shot of Margot Robbie on Vanity Fair quite shocking. And unnecessary 😥
I have been just as thin, and was classed as underweight and diagnosed with an eating disorder.
I hope I'm not the only one who wonders what the next level for stars might be, if this is an aspirational "look". And for us regular humans.

I can see what you mean.
It probably is her figure type but also it’s not the sort of photo I want a teenage daughter to see and aspire too.
(appreciate lots of magazine covers arnt either but we’re talking about this one in particular not helping)

RunningFromInsanity · 14/01/2023 20:32

Photoshop and breathing in.
If she was toned she would have defined muscle in your abs. They have been photoshopped out.

NothingButSpace · 14/01/2023 20:32

She looks normal and I wouldn’t have looked twice apart from this thread. She does have pronounced ribs.

BunchHarman · 14/01/2023 20:33

I have a tiny little frame, but I’m strong, exercise a lot (cardio, weights and MMA) and my BMI (which doesn’t account for frame size) is 17/18. I have been called names on here and accused of all sorts. I look good (excuse the trumpet blowing but I have muscle tone, my body is clearly strong) and I do not have an eating disorder. I just don’t eat shit or snack constantly.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, what constitutes ‘healthy’ has been totally distorted.

What else is it?

What a nasty, bitchy comment

HoppingAndHoping · 14/01/2023 20:35

She's leanig back and sucking in her stomach. Both have an impact on her appearance. (plus photoshop, bodymakeup, lighting etc).

I personally don't like the "sucking in stomach so you can see my ribs-look". But I don't think she looks anorexic. SOme people can have that body shape and still be healthy.

Are you saying bigger than this is fat??

No, you maniac. I’m saying that she’s healthy, and the people calling her ‘revoltingly thin‘ appear to have lost a grip on what is actually healthy.

Nosecan · 14/01/2023 20:35

I don’t get the point of threads like this.

I kind of think the rule they use with dogs is a good one, should be able to feel the ribs but not see them..........

That would cancel out a lot of people for a ridiculous reason.

I can see my ribs and I’m between a size 8/10 and 5’6. I’ve always been able to see them including when I was pregnant and had been 164 lbs. Seeing particular bones does not mean someone is too skinny or anorexic.

I'm similar size, curious as to what you eat? I run and go to the gym but often very tired , in my 50's though, you might well be in your 20's!

Jealousy

Catsstillrock · 14/01/2023 20:36

OP I had a body like that until I had kids.

actually when I was younger - late teens / early 20s I was slimmer than she is there (just checked MR is 32).

But very similar in my early 30s. Visible ribs in some poses, toned flat stomach.

it’s mostly a body and metabolism type thing. After 25 I ate well, and exercised but neither to excess.

mid 40s and after several pregnancies I’m still as tall and slim as ever. I don’t drink alcohol now which helps a lot.

but otherwise I eat well, exercise, and if I stood carefully could probably pull off a similar photo.

agree with other posters though it’s rude to leap to the conclusion it’s disordered eating.

Yes come on OP what is it?

Butchyrestingface · 14/01/2023 20:37

I think extremes of shape (not weight) are disconcerting, and neither need to be aspired to, or worshipped.

Margot Robbie has a healthy shape, by no means is she an extreme of anything. She's just sucking her stomach in as if her life depended on it, as anyone would if they were appearing on the front cover of Vanity Fair not that it would help me any.

Just watched the trailer for Barbie. Not a scoobie what it's going to be about, but I see it features Ryan Gosling as well Margot, so I will be going to see it.

samthebordercollie · 14/01/2023 20:38

She looks great. When I take my border collie to the vet if he/she can't feel the ribs the dog is classed as overweight. Doctors should do the same with humans.

GyozaGuiting · 14/01/2023 20:39

@BunchHarman I agree! With a low bmi people on here have assumed the following:
I’m boring
I don’t eat
I never eat anything fun
I don’t enjoy my life
I don’t drink alcohol
Well last night I got quite drunk, had an india take away with friends, but played netball today (a bit hungover!)
Had fish and chips for tea (I do not all eat healthier than this!)
But my point is, stop thin shaming! I can see my ribs and I’m perfectly fine and we should leave this poor woman alone.

Butchyrestingface · 14/01/2023 20:39

This would indeed by an excellent yardstick

... if we were dogs. Confused

LoveMyPiano · 14/01/2023 19:55

Hmm - I guess I stand corrected then.....
I had an eating disorder, not body dysmorphia.

I agree with this.

I'm similar size, curious as to what you eat? I run and go to the gym but often very tired , in my 50's though, you might well be in your 20's!

I’m mid 30s. For breakfast I had two cups of tea, a toasted wholemeal bagel with butter and jam, a banana and then a cup of coffee. For lunch I had a big bowl of vegetable soup and two crumpets with butter. For dinner I had a huge bowl of wholemeal spaghetti with tomatoes, harissa, prawns and some green veg blanched and griddled and stirred through. Plus four dough balls. And 2.5l of water, plus a couple more cups of tea throughout the day.

I don’t snack much (water helps with that) and I don’t add unnecessary sat fat to meals, though I do eat a lot of unsaturated fats by way of avocados, nuts, olive oil (not heated - alters state).

It was implied when you said fat wasn't normal vis a vis this is normal and therefore anything that isn't this is fat 🤷🏼‍♀️

DillDanding · 14/01/2023 20:40

I think she looks gorgeous and not too thin at all.

BunchHarman · 14/01/2023 20:41

I also take probiotics every day. I think that helps with everything. I’m a big fan of Tim Spector.
