To wonder where Margot Robbie's internal organs are.... see Vanity Fair cover

This is not an intention to body shame - but I find the cover shot of Margot Robbie on Vanity Fair quite shocking. And unnecessary 😥
I have been just as thin, and was classed as underweight and diagnosed with an eating disorder.
I hope I'm not the only one who wonders what the next level for stars might be, if this is an aspirational "look". And for us regular humans.

She looks fine to me- her stomach is nicely rounded, not emaciated or anything. People carry fat differently. My collar bone area, ankles, my ribs, my hands and feet are incredibly bony looking- you can see every single bone but I am a completely normal weight and its just that I have very little fat on those areas, even when I put weight on they stay bony (my mum was exactly the same). I have plenty of padding on my bum and thighs though.

Thinkwicebeforeyouleavemylife · 14/01/2023 20:01

She looks fantastic. A strong woman with great core muscles and clearly works out lot and watches what she eats.

Our views of whats 'normal' is distorted because so many are obese.

DurhamDurham · 14/01/2023 20:01

I think she looks fabulous, she isn't too thin, she's got a great shape and a stomach which I would love to have.
Even when I'm carrying extra weight on my thighs and bum you can still see my ribs and collar bone, it's just the shape I am.

MarshaBradyo · 14/01/2023 20:01

Not a good photo imo but she looks fine re weight

BabyFour2023 · 14/01/2023 20:02

LadyAstor · 14/01/2023 19:58

Looks like normal, toned, female anatomy to me.

This! She looks healthy and toned.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 14/01/2023 20:02

Speaking as a size 18 person I think we are so used to size 16 being average in the UK when in fact for most it's obese we forget what a normal healthy body looks like.

geekone · 14/01/2023 20:02

She looks awesome.

Bagsundermyeyestoday · 14/01/2023 20:03

Tbf it'll mostly be photoshopped

Lentilweaver · 14/01/2023 20:03

I was that size pre children. It's a normal size for a young woman. We have lost sight of what is normal.

Season0fTheWitch · 14/01/2023 20:03

My ribs are visible and my stomach dips in and I'm perfectly healthy. I doubt people would make posts like this about an overweight person.

LoveMyPiano · 14/01/2023 20:04

Raspberry290 · 14/01/2023 20:00

She looks fine. This is just bodyshaming

I didn't really want to actually body shame - it is more a question of the pose and editorial choice..... (I have been that "thin", as I said - but everyone thought I looked the "best ever"...) Maybe that image would have been better in the feature. I didn't see it when it came out, only just saw a leftover copy in my Co-op.
It apparently generated a wider discussion regarding the return (if it ever went away ) of "skinny" being the aspirational shape to aim for.

She's probably fine but the photo is definitely fetishising bones and a washboard stomach which isn't helpful. I'm sure she would have looked great in a dress that wasn't cut away to focus all our attention on a particular area of her body.

Anthillmobontherun · 14/01/2023 20:07

She looks fab, inspires me to do a few sit ups and crunches (in my head!)

Aquamarine1029 · 14/01/2023 20:08

She looks perfectly healthy. Not sure what you're going on about.

Siameasy · 14/01/2023 20:10

She looks healthy to me and most people were slim like this or even thinner in the fairly recent past. Watch a totp audience in the 70s and everyone is slim.
You’re not meant to say it but people are huge now and it’s so normalised that some high street shops no longer stock clothing small enough for thin people.

FarFlungFlamingo · 14/01/2023 20:10

I think she looks slim rather than skinny

levellingleveller · 14/01/2023 20:12

She looks like she is breathing in as if her life ( or career…) depended on it.

Honestly, I find that photo deeply unattractive and not remotely aspirational.

I agree with you though OP, a photo of a woman with her ribs showing like that is an unhealthy image to present to young women and girls.

minipie · 14/01/2023 20:12

Looks like a healthy body to me.

Benjispruce4 · 14/01/2023 20:13

It’s a stupid pose. Looks weird but not overly thin, just breathing in …. a lot!

Lemons1571 · 14/01/2023 20:15

It’s just the angle, pose and some photoshopping.

The internet suggests she weighs 125lbs (or just under 9 stone). I am an inch taller, and weigh a couple of pounds less than that. I’m strong through gym training and dieting over the past few years (pre 2020 I was bmi 40). I don’t look skinny or ill though. I can also guarantee my stomach looks nothing like hers 😂

doubleshotcappuccino · 14/01/2023 20:15

Love Margot Robbie .. as an actor this is her job so salute her whilst I finish off my kids' Pringles . She looks like that because she works hard to and she has a natural genetic predisposition.. good on her -- saucer of milk anyone ?

HolyZarquonsSingingSeals · 14/01/2023 20:16

You are supposed to be able to see your ribs.

AdventFridgeOfShame · 14/01/2023 20:18

I'm ate 50's BMI of 22-23 give me a good photographer and I could look like that. Not my face, but my reasonably average body could.

Lentilweaver · 14/01/2023 20:18

HolyZarquonsSingingSeals · 14/01/2023 20:16

Agree.

BunchHarman · 14/01/2023 20:19

She’s perfectly healthy, just sucking in. She has a gentle curve to her stomach. She looks and is amazing.

She’s never been ‘Hollywood’ thin. Watch the trailer for the Barbie movie. She’s unreal.
