To wonder where Margot Robbie's internal organs are.... see Vanity Fair cover

This is not an intention to body shame - but I find the cover shot of Margot Robbie on Vanity Fair quite shocking. And unnecessary 😥
I have been just as thin, and was classed as underweight and diagnosed with an eating disorder.
I hope I'm not the only one who wonders what the next level for stars might be, if this is an aspirational "look". And for us regular humans.

You can post all the pictures of men you like I still think your posts show a lot of internalised misogyny. I don’t think we are going to agree on that.

You are right - we aren't.
Thank you though for your analysis

down OP don’t you 🙄

AIBU? yes
No, I’m not - err, yeah, you are!
Nope, didn’t really mean that - yep, you did.
My one male friend agrees - 🤦🏼‍♀️

In my limited experience, anorexia is a spectrum and also comes under the umbrella of eating disorders/disordered eating. My stepmother - who had NO experience - told me in one breath that I was a pig, when I tried Key Lime Pie when we were actually in Naples Florida - and in the next told me that I was anorexic, based on my appearance. I was very thin, and never weighed myself at the time but I knew it - I didn't look in the mirror and think I was "fine".
I had stopped eating becuase I thought I had no right to exist, which was a historical problem. The ED was a part of it, and continues to be. But my ribs are not prominent any more 😂

So much to unpack from this post.

And yet you finished it off with a 😂..

MadelineUsher · 16/01/2023 00:08

It is an odd photo. I find it quite disturbing.

Ladyincrimson · 16/01/2023 03:00

72% say YABU. There’s your answer op

FixItUpChappie · 16/01/2023 03:52

I think its a terrible photo and pose neither of which is her fault but aside from that she looks fine IMO

pangolina · 16/01/2023 07:12

She looks perfectly healthy and normal. My ribs are prominent and always have been, I have always had a thigh gap and I have ALWAYS been the recipient of similarly bitchy, nasty comments about needing to eat more, having an eating disorder etc.
People dressing their own body issues up as "concern" for an individual or wider society is as tiresome as it is transparent.

Dowhahdiddy · 16/01/2023 11:14

Talking about your past ED and putting laughing smiley emojis, as well as the obvious contempt for any woman who isn’t a bit fat, makes it clear you’ve never had an ED in your life OP. 🥱 Try to not be such a jealous person. Eat more healthily and exercise more 😉

cinci · 15/01/2023 14:07

I’m 5ft2 and a size UK 6, I don’t have a thigh gap (they don’t actually exist btw, unless you stand with your legs slightly apart, or use photoshop)

They do exist... I'm naturally thin and lost more weight post breastfeeding. I definitely have a thigh gap, not on purpose. They certainly exist, even if you don't have one yourself.. i have to eat genuinely huge portions, and never -allow myself to be hungry to get rid of it which I very much enjoy

Yeah I've always had one too, maybe more so when younger.

It's just the shape of your thighs meeting your vulva/ass.

Some people do have them.

limitedperiodonly · 16/01/2023 13:09

(I do now intend to watch Babylon to see if there is some reason for this choice of dress/pose. Although it is not a film that I thought I would enjoy.)

@LoveMyPiano I wouldn't if I were you. Margot Robbie spends the first half hour in a dress split to the waist and there is a prominent complaint that she has no tits. Someone also whines about her nipples.

All in the context of the story, I hasten to add.

She looks great and her acting is not too bad either but seeing her might set you off on one again.

And you might want to grow up maybe?

Everanewbie · 16/01/2023 16:51

I think she looks great. As a society we have lost a grip of what a healthy weight looks like. According to stats in the UK, 63% of people are overweight, and 28% are obese. That means that the average person is overweight and our perception has become distorted.

I am much more worried about the body positivity type movements where unhealthy weights are celebrated.

OopsAnotherOne · 16/01/2023 17:14

She looks perfectly fine to me - healthy, slim and toned. She's most likely sucking in her tummy anyway, as a lot of people do when modelling for a shoot, not forgetting of course that it will be heavily edited as covers always are. She doesn't look to me as if she has anything wrong with her in the slightest!
Tedious comments like "where are your organs?!" from faux-concerned commenters who just fancied a bit of body shaming on their boring afternoon won't make a difference to her, I'm sure. Worry about yourself, Margot looks like she's doing just fine! 😊

Yes I agree with you. I am shocked and saddened by the amount of very overweight young people I see now. It can only have serious long term effects on their physical health and self esteem. No one should hate their bodies but it’s really wrong to promote the idea you can be very over weight and healthy.

Agreed. It shocks me to see 17 year olds with worse bodies than what I’ve got aged 42 and I’ve had 2 kids. We are turning into America. I went on holiday to the USA last month and some of them can’t even walk they’re so huge. I couldn’t imagine ever allowing myself to get into that state.

It’s so much harder to keep weight off when you are older, it really is a struggle if like me you love food! There is something seriously wrong though when so many older teen girls and young women are as large as they are. There has been such a change in the last 20 years and I don’t understand what has caused it

I don't even really understand what you're saying with this though.
The laughing was at myself because my ribs are very well covered now - I am definitely not intending to make digs at anyone, slim OR "fat".....
And I have suffered with long-term disordered eating most of my life - you are quite rude to say that it's imaginary.

I initially posted because I thought that the image on the cover was inappropriate and focussed on one particular element of her physique. The title was facetious, but most people seem to have missed that.
I have stated that it was NOT intended as body-shaming, rather questioning the editorial choice of that image.
I started the post on Saturday - and was out for most of the non-boring afternoon, without a network connection, even if I had MN on my phone, which I don't!

It won't "set me off again" - as my question was connected with the image on the VF cover, as you well know.
I am only hesitant to watch it becuase it has not had good reviews, and it not a genre that I would enjoy. As I said, I wondered of the dress/pose choice (of the Editor) might be linked somehow, as these things usually are.

And I asked one male opinion - I do not expect him to represent the whole of male society; I was trying to offset the anticipated accusations of "jealousy". And I was correct to anticipate them.

Fast food and frozen nuggets if you ask me. We have a fast food place that opens up at 3pm for the kids leaving high school, so if they’ve got some money on them they’ve already eaten a load of rubbish before going home and then having their dinner.

I don't think asking a male friends opinion rules out jealousy at all. In fact, now it seems you've won the male vote. Yay, Margot is unattractive? Not sure what the point is, even if every man thought the same that she looks unhealthy- nobody cares

You see, I did NOT say that she looks unattractive, nor did I say that SHE looked unhealthy.
I think the cover photo - in a certain aspect - is ridiculous, disturbing and potentially harmful.
I was dumb to think that getting a male opinion would allay any accusations of female (my) jealousy. Although he did agree that it was a weird image for a magazine cover, regardless of what he might see in his triathlon/fitness world.
I do not mind that it has expanded into wider discussion about health, body shape and size and the connection to diet and disordered eating.
