To wonder where Margot Robbie's internal organs are.... see Vanity Fair cover

This is not an intention to body shame - but I find the cover shot of Margot Robbie on Vanity Fair quite shocking. And unnecessary 😥
I have been just as thin, and was classed as underweight and diagnosed with an eating disorder.
I hope I'm not the only one who wonders what the next level for stars might be, if this is an aspirational "look". And for us regular humans.

We have no idea if she's a healthy weight? Many models and actresses are not a healthy bmi. And let's not pretend that 'thin' isn't seen as the default desirable whereas obese isn't but people who are overweight or obese have had to fight to be represented at all in terms of clothes to fit us including sportswear
I don't recall ever seeing judgement that major sports retailers make clothes for smaller framed ladies but certainly remember the furore over plus sized gym wear. Apparently that was going to make all women aspire to be obese

cinci · 15/01/2023 16:40

We have no idea if she is actually healthy (diet/exercise), but she is clearly a healthy weight ie. Doesn't appear overweight or underweight and I don't need a medical degree to tell you that

Again how on Earth would you know unless you have her weight and height?

People who are anorexic have skeletal arms and the bones in their back stick right out and you can literally see their spine and all the bones in their collar and shoulders. This isn’t anorexic guys, it’s just a woman who isn’t chubby.

I think he is "sucking in " as well.

OP you need to focus on your own recovery and not start threads about weight and eating disorders. It's not healthy or normal.

I actually started a thread about a magazine cover/famous actress.
I mentioned an ED as background - but have at no point ever mentioned weight - MR's or mine, or anyone else' for that matter.
If you don't like or care to have something truly relevant to contribute - feel free to bypass. One line snarky comments are pointless and a waste of time.

6 pack abs but absolutely no peck muscle? Looks very photoshopped to me 😏

Ladyincrimson · 15/01/2023 17:05

In my limited experience, anorexia is a spectrum and also comes under the umbrella of eating disorders/disordered eating. My stepmother - who had NO experience - told me in one breath that I was a pig, when I tried Key Lime Pie when we were actually in Naples Florida - and in the next told me that I was anorexic, based on my appearance. I was very thin, and never weighed myself at the time but I knew it - I didn't look in the mirror and think I was "fine".
I had stopped eating becuase I thought I had no right to exist, which was a historical problem. The ED was a part of it, and continues to be. But my ribs are not prominent any more 😂

Tell your theraist you started this thread and see what they say. Or dont. But playing semantics doesnt change my point that a recovered person doesnt start a thread about whether someone is too thin.

workiskillingme · 15/01/2023 17:35

My son has a figure like that guy
He eats absolutely tons

Benjispruce4 · 15/01/2023 17:42

That guy looks great Both nipples are visible and not photoshopped.
People have different builds.

So what if I do.
I started a thread about someone's ribcage being a prominent feature on a magazine cover. It has also been discussed elsewhere on the internet, I have now discovered.
I am not precluded about having an opinion about something that is adjacent to diet/fitness becuase I experienced difficulties myself - and, as I also said, it started due to reasons other than appearance, and the ribs and other physical consequences were an unfortunate by-product.
I think the focus on what looks like a distorted/photoshopped midriff on the VF cover (and it just happens to be MR) is weird and possibly harmful.

(I do now intend to watch Babylon to see if there is some reason for this choice of dress/pose. Although it is not a film that I thought I would enjoy.)

p.s what’s wrong with sucking in?

margot is doing it, that guy is doing it, we all do it for photos!

so what?!

stayathomer · 15/01/2023 18:22

All that strikes me is what a depressing image it is, it’s such a pity as her smile is so beautiful and she normally looks so full of life

I didn't say he was.
I posted it for balance, given that I have been accused of being a thin-person hating misogynist.
It caused a fuss on local facebook when it was anonymously criticised.

You can post all the pictures of men you like I still think your posts show a lot of internalised misogyny. I don’t think we are going to agree on that.

astronewt · 15/01/2023 22:03

Robbie is really not an overly thin woman in those pictures. She looks muscular, lean, and athletic. I'm not as lean, but if I made that pose, my ribcage would be if anything more prominent, just because that's how I'm built. What's she supposed to do about that? I will never clear 6ft, or even 5ft 8, but I don't complain that tall models and actresses are setting me unachievable standards.

There is nothing wrong with Robbie's body.
