The co ap cat. Aubi to complain

At my local co-op in the village where I live half of the time that I go in I go in there is a random cat walking around the aisles.
I have asked staff about this before but All they have really said is that it is the local cat and it is always in and out of the few little shops there.

I am definitely not a cat lover and I don't really like the thought of the cat walking around the food shop.
Aubi to complain or should I just let it go and drive further out to a different store if it bothers me.

in the village where I live half of the time

Permanent members of the community, whatever their species, take precedence over people with multiple homes who blow in and out.

Somanysocks · 14/01/2023 17:27

I don't really like cats but quite like seeing the ginger one thst wanders around our local Poundstretcher.

Mia184 · 14/01/2023 17:28

OP, have a look at Bodegacatsofinstagram on Instagram. Cats in food shops is very common in the US

sydsmum · 14/01/2023 17:29

Get a grip. It's a cat.

Tinktravels · 14/01/2023 17:31

@Stravaig
I live here all of the time sorry if it was unclear, I meant half of the time I go into the shop
So about 50% of the time I visit the cat is in there.

But it's ok for dogs to go everywhere. What about people and there manky hands handling things. I would be much more concerned about this. However I am a cat lover so would encourage me in.

CaraVann · 14/01/2023 17:32

The town next to where I live has a Co-op cat which also frequents the doctors surgery over the road. Doesn’t bother me at all. I have had 4 cats and each one was cleaner than most humans I know.

caoraich · 14/01/2023 17:33

Maybe you could ask the shop staff to put a paper collar on the cat, with a note for the owners asking them to have a word with said cat. Cats are known for being really amenable to obeying instructions 😐

Stravaig · 14/01/2023 17:35

@Tinktravels Ah, I see the alternative reading now! Did think you were taking second home entitlement to a whole new level there, poor wee kitty 🤣

Trinity65 · 14/01/2023 17:36

But what about?

You are mean OP. Mean.
Leave the cat alone

HomemadePickle · 14/01/2023 17:36

yanbu - my dh and dd have such severe cat fur allergy that they wouldn’t be able to shop there.

SnuggleBuggleBoo · 14/01/2023 17:40

A few weeks back a mouse ran across in front of me while I was standing in a shop queue. Probably rather have a cat around my food TBH!

Needmorelego · 14/01/2023 17:40

I know someone that worked in a large supermarket. They had a cat that wandered in every so often. My friend managed to catch the cat from right at the back at the store and picked him up to take him out. In her long walk through the supermarket to the front door several customers stopped to ask where things were etc. Not one questioned why she was carrying a cat 😂

Notcontent · 14/01/2023 17:41

Well, it’s much better than having mice walking over all the food (very common in supermarkets).

Mrsfussypants1 · 14/01/2023 17:41

Just shop elsewhere, i personally wouldnt be bothered by the cat, i like both cats and dogs but Dh is highly allergic to dogs, and they seem to be invading our local high street John lewis, wilkos and every restaurant. One had urinated up a bag of compost in wilkos and it hadn't been cleaned.

vodkaredbullgirl · 14/01/2023 17:43

Maybe it's the new scanner.

toocold54 · 14/01/2023 17:46

Go to a different shop.

Most places will have cats walking in and out like they own the place.

I’d be comforted by the fact that it probably has less mice or rats in this store because of it.

Makinglists · 14/01/2023 17:47

Our co-op has a cat - perhaps co-ops have them on the payroll. How many cats does the coop employ?

HikingforScenery · 14/01/2023 17:47

Gross. Do you not have an alternative shop, OP? I wouldn’t not like this at all.

Its normal for cat owners to allow their cats to walk on the worktops, etc so they won’t see this as a big deal.

My cat is not allowed on the worktops, but doesn’t try to go on them anyway.
So it’s not normal. But the cat in the photo appears to be walking on the floor.

Herewegoagain84 · 14/01/2023 17:52

I guess it depends if you prefer rats!

Messyhair321 · 14/01/2023 17:52

Our local a&e in a huge hospital had a resident cat. Used to wander in & out.

It wouldn't bother me & I think it's a bit petty to see this as an issue. I would go to another shop if I didn't like it op

Tinktravels · 14/01/2023 15:12

Fully accepted Iabu then with these replies 🤣 I'm just a clean freak I suppose I'll go elsewhere from now on

Most food shops have a problem with mice and rats, which will be running amok over the stock. You just don't see them 🤷‍♀️

I'd love there to be a cat in my local Co Op - my cat doesn't seem to want to venture there! YABU

No they don’t!

LadyOfTheCanyon · 14/01/2023 17:57

I feel very short changed as our local Co-Op doesn't have a resident cat.

I make up for this by following Jeremy.the.manager on instagram, who is a very dashing black cat whose job title is head of operations at CityPup in New York. He wears a selection of very nice ties.
