The co ap cat. Aubi to complain

At my local co-op in the village where I live half of the time that I go in I go in there is a random cat walking around the aisles.
I have asked staff about this before but All they have really said is that it is the local cat and it is always in and out of the few little shops there.

I am definitely not a cat lover and I don't really like the thought of the cat walking around the food shop.
Aubi to complain or should I just let it go and drive further out to a different store if it bothers me.

There's a cat at my local pet shop. She's sweet and always comes to me for a cuddle. However I've noticed a few times cat scratching posts they are selling have been "tested" and some large bags of cat biscuits "sampled" through little chewed holes 😂

FangsForTheMemory · 14/01/2023 15:56

The cat is probably after mice. I know which I’d prefer.

"Cats love the Co-op".
Should be their new marketing strategy. It's a winner!

Yes - we have a Co-Op cat too!

(When we ran and lived over a village shop, our cats would sleep in the shop - usually on the newspapers - Environmental Health were pragmatic and said they would be good pest control - sorry OP 😺)

TortillaChipAddict · 14/01/2023 15:57

It was a supermarket car park cat that persuaded me to look for one of my own! I’ve had a dog before and I find cats far more hygienic. Re the allergy thing, I appreciate it could be frustrating to people with severe allergies but that’s something that has to managed generally anyway - my daughter has a very severe contact reactive dairy allergy which restricts where she can go, some are places that you wouldn’t think would be a problem/don’t know if they will be a problem until
you get there - ice cream in summer is tricky to navigate as it gets dripped everywhere. I love the fact the cat visits all those shops, sounds a complete character! My cat was found trying to break into somebody’s house and handed to cat’s protection before I adopted her, when I heard that story I knew we would get on!

WildFlowerBees · 14/01/2023 15:57

Our local Co-Op has a cat. It sits by the flowers it doesn't jump on the shelves Confused it also frequents other shops and we all love the cat she's quite famous in our town. Don't be so precious.

clarepetal · 14/01/2023 15:59

Would love this myself!!

PeekAtYou · 14/01/2023 16:01

We have a local cat that does this too. She's allowed in Morrisons, Card Factory and B&M but the pet shop and Poundstretchers shoo her out. (The pet shop sells small pets so I totally understand why)

Tinktravels · 14/01/2023 16:01

Thanks for the replies everyone.
I now know I'm being unreasonable but I can't help but still cringe a bit at the thought! 🤣

Our cat has a Facebook fan page where people upload sightings. The only request from the owner is not to feed her.

ivykaty44 · 14/01/2023 16:03

how do you purpose the staff stop the cat for wander into the shop?

we have a cat that wanders into our place of work, we take it back out and it comes back inside through another door. Sone staff dislike the cat others don't mind, so picking up is left to certain staff. The owners are aware but don't do anything other than allow the cat out to roam

ClaireEclair · 14/01/2023 16:04

Our local Tesco had a cat visitor. She was loved by everyone and was allowed to wander freely around the shop. Her owner tried to stop her but it never worked (she was once grounded for a month). When she passed away of old age the town mourned her and there were flowers let outside the shop and little tins of cat food. I think there was even talk of a little statue at one point 😂Hasn’t happened yet.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 14/01/2023 16:07

Love bodega cats.

If I saw a cat heading towards the wine aisle I would just say 'hello, my fine fellow. are you a New World wine fan?'

Chikapu · 14/01/2023 16:12

I'd do a special trip just to see him, I love a random cat.

AngelDelightUK · 14/01/2023 16:14

Is this in Berkshire? We have a cat who goes in the Co-Op too. The owner is always asking people not to feed it

MrsMoastyToasty · 14/01/2023 16:16

Southmead Hospital in Bristol had a visiting cat called Kolo. He would "help" the admin staff by sleeping in their filing trays.

BillyDeanisnotmylover · 14/01/2023 16:16

Aw, cute. I’d be grateful that it’s probably chasing the mice away. Although I’m quite fond of mice too, just not in my local co-op.

YABU
There’s a cat in Windsor (yes, where the Queen lived) called Dexter. He’s a local celebrity. He is even one of the pieces in the Windsor Monopoly board game. He brings a lot of joy to a lot of people. Check him out on Facebook, Dexter Windsor.

That's probably why he's having to do his own shopping!

PigletJohn · 14/01/2023 16:21

I once worked in Witham, which has a statue of a cat in the High Street.

Whyisitsososohard · 14/01/2023 16:22

Yabu yes

LivingOnAPrayerYes · 14/01/2023 16:22

I miss poor Brutus, the Saltney Morrisons cat. He has a statue up now.

I think it's much more likely that people have handled and coughed over uncovered foods than a cat is to have walked over them.

Animals can carry all kinds of fleas, diseases and moulting fur, and they don't wipe their bums or wash their paws with soap and water either.

I neither like nor dislike dogs and cats, but the hysteria surrounding their rights from some people is hilarious. Humans don't get a look in!

I do not like to see animals in food shops. I am quite entitled to that view, and will not shop (or go for coffee/food/drinks) anywhere they are allowed. Same applies to young kids for the record. I am older now and can say and do what I like, I am invisible mostly but on this issue I am vehement.

I saw a video on Twitter someone had filmed at a Sainsbury's. The bakery section was crawling with mice Envy

Every shop with a bakery should have a cat. Or a jack russell.

ouch321 · 14/01/2023 15:32

I like cats but just like having dogs in shops it is not sanitary.

I wouldn't want to eat a croissant that a cat has walked over.

If a cat walked on a croissant, the croissant would be squashed flat.
