To think most people have *not* tried cocaine?

On another thread, a poster states that 'most people have at least tried cocaine'.

I haven't, and family haven't. However, on threads about drugs there always seems to be a clear divide - either people haven't taken them, or everyone they know has.

So, for a very unscientific survey:

YABU - I have tried cocaine
YANBU - I have not tried cocaine

I snorted crushed up ecstasy pills a few times. That was way worse.

I have and most (70%?) of people I know/socialise with have at some point. I'm always genuinely surprised when people say they don't know anyone who has.

I grew up in a deprived suburb but went to uni with lots of very posh people and now work with mostly middle class people and it's across all social groups, so I don't think that has much to do with it.

Never tried it, never wanted to. I'm pretty sure if I had wanted to, it wouldn't have been hard to obtain, especially in the city where I went to university. I'm very anti illegal drugs though and would worry about potential effects.

My DH tried it once in his 20s but it did nothing for him. He lived in another country at the time, I'm not sure if it's more common there or not.

Nope, and I never will. It's the absolute devil.

I have done a fair few times, as have a lot of friends. I haven't touched for many, many years now and I'm quite shocked at how it's seen as being pretty benign. on par with having a couple of drinks.

I haven’t even though I used to smoke a lot of cannabis.

I do have quite a few friends who’ve done it but we grew up in a deprived area and I found cocaine is more prevalent in better off areas.

Was completely normal in my circle in the past, both people known socially and professionally.
I haven't touch drugs for many years, I don't even drink alcohol anymore.
ExH declined to give up previous lifestyle, hence now Ex. One of his best friends was a headteacher and used more cocaine than anyone we knew.

About 80% of my friends have (some last weekend). I have but find it makes me a terrible bore.

God no. I know a few people who have but they are very much the minority.

Never tried any kind of drug. Abhore everything about drugs and, not sorry, I do judge those that use.

I did a stint in rehab because of it (and other drugs) 9 years ago. Happy to say I’ve been clean since then. It’s a hell of a drug if you have an addictive personality. And everyone I knew growing up did it too, just not as much as me.

30 % have voted yes so far so it’s fair to say that it’s not rare (on mumsnet anyway).

i left my ex because of his coke addiction, everybody I work with is a regular user. I’ve never tried it, I have no desire to either

Tried weed but that’s it, I’d never do anything else. But I have a couple of friends who have tried it all and in their 50s still do. I don’t think it’s big or clever.

one of my friends kids does. He is big into the London scene and parties very hard, he’s become so thin with it too. Thing is his mum hates drugs, I love him to bits but do worry a bit and I can’t tell her. She knows he’s big into the London party scene, but she doesn’t know about rhe drug use, she is so bemused by his weight loss.😔

I have, it wasn't for me. It's used often in my friendship circle but personally now I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

I was a waitress in top London restaurants for a few years. It. Was. Everywhere. All the managers, most of the waiters, a few of the support staff and basically all of the kitchen. Loads of customers on it too.

I haven’t, and to my knowledge my friendship circle generally haven’t, but there are a few I wouldn’t be surprised if they had! Generally we’re not a hard partying lot and like many others I’d not want to put money into a system that is supporting criminal activity.

Class A are a mug's game. Attractive to me as a traumatised young adult, left them behind decades ago.

I have never tried it and never will. I have however been offered it multiple times. I have also been in a centre cubicle of three in the toilets of a very upmarket pub in an expensive area and seen a credit card being thrown over from one end cubicle to the other and some rather obvious snorting sounds.

Yes, my workplace was like this, too. My boss racking up lines in the cellar for us all to go take a turn while we were on shift 🙄

I have tried it. Not my thing really but ecstasy became difficult to source around here after the early 2000s so most people transitioned to lines of coke and the club scene changed for the worse.

I don't do any drugs at all these days.
