To think most people have *not* tried cocaine?

bluegreygreen · 12/01/2023 20:36

On another thread, a poster states that 'most people have at least tried cocaine'.

I haven't, and family haven't. However, on threads about drugs there always seems to be a clear divide - either people haven't taken them, or everyone they know has.

So, for a very unscientific survey:

YABU - I have tried cocaine
YANBU - I have not tried cocaine

Don't remember a taste just STUNG like fuck.

Didn't stop me doing it again, though 😐

Class A are a mug's game. Attractive to me as a traumatised young adult, left them behind decades ago.

Burning pain.
It is a complete mugs game.
Young people are far better off never using any drug.
What you don't know, you don't miss, therefore never crave.

Ugh they tasted like plastic mixed with bathroo cleaner.

I loved ecstasy tbh, people were so nice to complete strangers when they were loved up. Good Times.

StrawberryWater · 12/01/2023 21:18

Never tried drugs myself.

However I struggle to think of more than a handful of people I know that are in the same boat.

Riverlee · 12/01/2023 21:18

No, never tried it.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 12/01/2023 21:19

Yep, most of my friendship group would have taken it at some point. Super rare nowerdays for it to be on offer somewhere I go but depending on situation wouldn't say no to one or two lines.

Same with partner and thier friends. I know one sibling would have done it (and plenty of other stuff) the other wouldn't even have smoked a cigarette

Crispynoodle · 12/01/2023 21:19

No never and will never but I am interested in what it does for people?

TheMarzipanDildo · 12/01/2023 21:19

I attempted weed once but forgot to inhale. Got nothing from it. Wouldn’t accept drugs generally because of the crappiness of the industry but I was pissed and trying to be cool (I didn’t convince anyone).

Brainfogmcfogface · 12/01/2023 21:19

At one point in my life literally everyone I socialised with did it, young, professional types living/working in central london. Ngl I loved it on a night out. But would never do it now I have kids, to risky and not worth the potential consequences, when I was young and relatively responsibility free though…

IvanaB · 12/01/2023 21:21

I haven't but I know loads of people who have (not DH, family or close friends... that I'm aware of).

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby · 12/01/2023 21:21

YANBU never have never will

BubziOwl · 12/01/2023 21:23

My circle is full of people who work in the City and have the type of jobs where you might expect cocaine use to be commonplace, but I there is only one of us who's tried it (and she's not of the ones who has the aforementioned type of job!).

People who use it like to insist it's more common than it actually is.

quinceh · 12/01/2023 21:23

I've tried it a couple of times. I know quite a few people who've tried it but wouldn't, from my own experience, say 'most people.'

Bbq1 · 12/01/2023 21:23

IntentionalError · 12/01/2023 20:45

I absolutely have taken cocaine. And ecstasy, amphetamines & cannabis. But then, I was a student in the early 90s…

So was I... And I have never taken any drugs or even smoked a cigarette.

SirenSays · 12/01/2023 21:23

Amused by these responses claiming they don't know anyone who does it. Its incredibly common and if they know you're anti drug they're hardly going to tell you they do it.

I've never taken it, but I do know a few people who did (ex's friends - not surprising if you knew him!). They generally just couldn't have a good time without it. Even ex, who was a complete waster, couldn't tolerate his friends when they took it, they were very, very annoying and generally spoke nonsense at a ridiculous speed of noughts.

catmademedoit · 12/01/2023 21:26

Never have and never will

Socrateswasrightaboutvoting · 12/01/2023 21:28

Nope, Just not my bag. Its everywhere at the moment from what I have been hearing.

DNBU · 12/01/2023 21:28

I have, in my late 20s/early 30s. It just sped up my sense of time and gave me a lot of energy to party all night. Only did it once, maybe twice. I didn’t feel great on it or after, it just gave me a lot of energy.

Most people in my main social group have probably tried it, but I don’t know any who takes it now (as far as I know). I dated someone for a couple of months who was a heavy user and when that became apparent I was out of there.

whyarentiskinnyet · 12/01/2023 21:28

Myself and friends have and do from time to time, its not unusual within my friendship group.

Babyclb · 12/01/2023 21:29

I don't know about 'most' but it is definitely not uncommon below about age 35. At least several people do it recreationally in every friendship group I've ever known.
MN are obsessed with thinking everyone who has tried it is a raging druggie but the reality is they are usually well adjusted professionals, look respectable and have a decent income. Your accountant, lawyer, vet etc

Toolowforzero · 12/01/2023 21:30

No I haven’t tried it although I have been aware that other people through my life have taken it. I have made sure that my children are fully informed of the risks. With all of the education they had in school, I’m fairly confident that they weren’t taught how to reduce the risk of getting a cerebral aneurysm.

horseymum · 12/01/2023 21:31

Don't know a single person who has admitted to it, can only think of one or two who might have.

Crispynoodle · 12/01/2023 21:19

Do you drink alcohol? Would you drink alcohol on a night out?

Same concept but arguably more suited to a night out than alcohol is. Makes you feel euphoric, full of energy, chatty, dancey, heightens emotional bonding etc.

ChristmasJumpers · 12/01/2023 21:36

I never have, DH never has but when I was at uni it was rife!!! 4 out of 6 people in my uni halls did it regularly. I don't know anyone who does it now (or who have told me they do)

Fairislefandango · 12/01/2023 21:37

Amused by these responses claiming they don't know anyone who does it. Its incredibly common and if they know you're anti drug they're hardly going to tell you they do it.

Nobody can 100% be sure of what another person does in private, but people probably mostly know whether their friends do it or not. Besides, not all the people who said they don't know anyone who does it said they are anti-drugs. And not everyone who's anti drugs actually goes around telling people that. The fact that it's very common doesn't mean everybody has friends who do.
