To think most people have *not* tried cocaine?

On another thread, a poster states that 'most people have at least tried cocaine'.

I haven't, and family haven't. However, on threads about drugs there always seems to be a clear divide - either people haven't taken them, or everyone they know has.

So, for a very unscientific survey:

YABU - I have tried cocaine
YANBU - I have not tried cocaine

I did, in my late teens, so did DH and a good number of our friends, back then.

None (that I know of) still do any kind of drugs now in our 30s/40s but we live somewhere with a big finance industry so it's definitely about.

Never tried it, never wanted to. The same goes for my husband, our adult sons, and their partners.

My mum would also say I have never done it but I have so maybe you shouldn't speak for others

I've done quite a lot of different drugs at some point, none for over 20 years and I'd never tell you if you asked in person. I agree most people haven't tried it and not just by a little, I'd say a vast majority haven't, but I'd also say more people have than would answer honestly.

I haven't. In my younger days(from 17-20) I took mdma and acid fairly regularly but wouldn't ever touch anything now. I don't even drink alcohol anymore.

No and don’t know anyone who has had. It’s definitely a minority thing, the people who say ‘everyone does it’ are trying to make themselves feel better. Bit sad really.

Commonplace in my youth, not so much now but I have a very different circle of friends these days

I did it once a few years ago at a very respectable wedding of all places. Took me completely by surprise 😮

Never tried it never been offered it and never interested me.
Nobody in my circle (family, DH, siblings) have either.
Would be disgusted and surprised if either on my DS's dabble/d.

Yeah - lol at that. It’s not something most adult children say to their parents particularly if they know they haven’t taken it!

my adult DC have told me they’ve taken it and still take it occasionally.

I've never even tried a cigarette! Certainly never drugs and wouldn't have a clue where to get any.

Strange really as I am usually a naturally curious person.

Yeah, but when you're 17 and having the time of your life this just isn't a thought you'd have.

Plenty of opportunity but why would you want to anaesthetise your nose? Just do not get why you’d do it.

It keeps you awake.

It gives you confidence - mostly to talk a lot of bullshit, but it's a nice feeling if you're not typically confident.

I haven’t, but I think I am unusual in my social circle. My mental health has always been a bit precarious so I have been careful. Drug use has been normal all around me since my early teens (in the 1970s) and carries on now even though my friends are in their 50s and 60s. I can think of very few casualties. Most people have been successful and brought up families etc. Some are grandparents!

So was I, but the drug of choice for me and everyone I knew was alcohol!

Another student of the early 90s here too.... I guess it just depends on the circles you were in as a student. Mine was very drug-related but I knew other groups who were all about the booze!

Coming at it with age and hindsight, it turns you into a chatty self-absorbed twat GrinGrin

The last time I did a line I was about 22 and I got the absolute rage, really angry with everyone for no reason. I've never touched it again.

Most people I know have tried it/used it recreationally, usually in their early twenties but wouldn't use it now.

I haven't and wouldn't want to. Drugs just don't interest me at all. I hate not having control, more than a few drinks makes me uncomfortable. However I think I could count on one hand the amount of friends of mine that haven't. They will all happily partake if and when offered.

Yeah, my mother would put money on my brother not having done it (she’s probably not as confident where I’m concerned), and promptly find herself out of pocket.
