Wearing hats indoors at Work.

This has probably been covered before.
But in this day and age is it ok to wear hats in the office/ work environment.
Or just in general like in restaurants, cinemas etc.
Would you judge someone that started wearing a hat to work. Regardless of the weather.?

🤔

I work in a reasonably formal office environment...honestly can't think I've ever seen a single person wearing a hat! I just can't really imagine what hat would be appropriate in a formal office?!

In former, more casual, offices, I've seen baseball caps, but I think that's as far as it's got. In warehouse/agriculture environments obviously it's different.

kitsuneghost · 10/01/2023 22:43

I wear a hat in work. Take it off if I'm hot though.

Frabbits · 10/01/2023 22:43

What sort of hat are we talking about?

Baseball? Top? Cowboy?

Is the angle of the hat jaunty or regular?

Is the hat black, white, red, blue, yellow or green? Or something else?

Does it have a logo?

Just not enough detail to go on.

warmeduppizza · 10/01/2023 22:43

It’s OK if you’re a bishop.

Unicorn717 · 10/01/2023 22:44

If I saw someone wearing a wooly hat in 40 degree heat, I'd probably think it was a bit weird. But why would I actually care what anyone wears.

ThinWomansBrain · 10/01/2023 22:44

well a hair net or other cover in a food environment would be OK - other than that it sounds a bit weird.

Chwo · 10/01/2023 22:44

Depends on the dress code of the workplace surely. I wear a hat to restaurants, cinema and to some workplaces, current place has its own hat so don't need to wear my own. The joys of alopecia, makes me feel more confident wearing a hat.

It would be odd where I work.

Aquarius1234 · 10/01/2023 22:46

I mainly own baseball hats. Darker and lighter colours.
Occasionally other types but wouldn't feel comfortable in those inside etc.

I used to wear a beret at work in my last job.

What type of work do you do? If you’re in an office, a baseball hat is a definite no. A

mynameiscalypso · 10/01/2023 22:50

I know loads of people in the tech/media industries (and, come to think of it, civil service) who wear hats all the time including in the office, at events and at home on video calls.

What if you work in the office of a baseball team?

Yes I understand I couldn't wear one in a smart bank or something.

My manager wears a bob hat a lot of the time, it's never occurred to me to think anything of it. But then we have engineers wandering in an out all the time wearing hats so it doesn't seem that wierd

My DH (also an engineer but one who works inside rather than out got issued with a hat as part of his uniform)

Aquarius1234 · 10/01/2023 22:58

Right so tech media and engineering companies are ok for future..
Not that I any experience of that.

I wear a hijab! One man at work wears a skull cap. Apart from these religious head coverings nobody I know wears a hat to work

Hillrunning · 10/01/2023 23:04

I wear a hat in my office because most of my work is outdoors, when I come in for meetings or computer work if look a right state if I took the hat off. Hours of hat hair, trust me keeping the hat on is more professional

Doyoumind · 10/01/2023 23:05

I work in an office and it is acceptable for hats like baseball caps or beanies to be worn. It's been the same at most places I've worked and there's usually been at least one man with one permanently on.

MarmiteCoriander · 10/01/2023 23:07

@Aquarius1234 - What on earth does this mean??? Does it affect your condition wearing a hat all the time ?

OoooohMatron · 10/01/2023 23:09

Yes I'd think they were a twat. Twat in a hat.
