Following on from the petrol price thread (and in true Victor Meldrew style) what do you think shouldn't be allowed......I'll kick off with the following.

Petrol should be the same price from a retailer no matter where you buy it from

Nothing should ever be double taxed (Petrol again....Fuel Duty and VAT!!!)

All displayed prices for anything should be inclusive of VAT

A Council should not be able to get away with paying for damage caused by potholes by saying 'We are aware and it's due to be fixed'

Electricity and Gas prices should be easy to understand

The same goes for Water (who last bought a cubic metre of water from a shop when they wanted a drink?)

If someone is sentenced to life for murder, this should mean for the rest of their life, not to be released after 10, 15, 20 years etc....

Employers only giving you 28 days annual leave including bank holidays . It’s a juggling order having a weeks holiday plus juggling the 12 weeks school holidays plus any appointments you need to make .

In fairness, CAMHS are about as much use as a chocolate teapot. They should be eliminated and replaced with a service which is actually fit for purpose.

Dividends should not be paid unless they are using genuine profits to do so that will not leave the company struggling. Loans should never be made or taken out to pay dividends.

You should be able to return packaging to the company who makes it. And if something is recyclable there should be somewhere closer than 30 mins drive away that you can recycle it at!!

An MP’s maximum term of office should be 10 years and they must have had a proper non political job for at least the previous 10 years before they get elected (so no SpADs, constituency officers, etc. - you can have those roles after you’ve done your 10 years of proper work). There are too many career politicians who know nothing about the real world sitting there being entitled and lazy on taxpayers money because they’re sitting in a safe seat.

Road tax shouldn't be simply by the size of the vehicle, but rather based on roads you use (city roads & motorways cost more: we would save a lot).

Houses & new buildings should not be built without consideration of putting solar panels on roof (presupposed they will be there unless unsuitable aspect)

New urban development shouldn't happen without plans to put large wind turbines between/over buildings.

Onshore wind developments should not be stopped except in rare cases.

New / revised urban development shouldn't happens without bicycles taking priority at junctions and entire streets being planned to make explicit space for cyclists. Active travel networks should be as important in urban planning as gas lines, electricity, water networks, etc.

Petrol taxes shouldn't be frozen or reduced again: they probably need to rise.

Punishment should not be the goal of criminal justice system: rehabilitation (with upskilling and purposeful lives to follow for persons convicted and their victims in many cases) should be the central goal.

No police fiction should have cops standing around pointing guns at each other: flipping nonsense drives me crazy.

That would be amazing! Sizing names L, XL, XXL should be adapted too - size 14 being 'large' doesn't sit right with me.

Legally, dividends can only be paid out of "distributable reserves", which basically means realised profits.

If a company takes out a loan to use that cash for a dividend, it must have previously made enough profits that havn't been paid out as a dividend left over. Perhaps the "profits" were used at the earlier time for other things such as buying assets or paying off previous loans?

It's not a "free for all" as you suggest. Laws are already in place to prevent abuse.

We'll be getting "pay by the mile" or more road tolls when the move from petrol to electric cars gains pace. The Govt can't afford to lose all the revenue they raise from road tax and fuel duty from petrol/diesel cars, so they'll impose new taxes on vehicles to include electric cars which are mostly currently exempt from current forms of road pricing.

Probably one of the reasons for Smart motorways being converted all over the place - they can use the gantries/cameras as a trigger to charge motorists to use those (usually) busier motorways.

Bullying in schools. If an adult was being assaulted and/or verbally abused on a regular basis it would be a police matter. It should be the same for school bullying.

Could we have the option to buy full sugar Ribena again? The sugar free stuff is totally undrinkable.

Buses is cycle lanes ought to be banned.

And cars that don’t indicate!!!! It doesn’t cost to use indicators!!!! How did these people pass their test!!!

And dogs. If you have a dog your number 1 job is to ensure it never - ever - comes within 10 metres of anyone else. They should always be on a lead on footpaths too.

I’m half joking, but bear with me…

Most facets of society have been created by men and for men, women have then stepped in and valiantly fought for safeguarding, recognition and representation for themselves and for children, whilst men come up with ever more inventive ways to overcome this and write in loopholes.

I’d like to see what women could do, not in a Thatcher - take on the role of a man - way, but create a matriarchal society that would be more likely to meet the needs of everyone, rather than where we are at the moment where many women cannot access appropriate health care because its designed for men’s bodies and hormonal processes, where even women’s shoes are based on male foot anatomy, where cars are designed to fit male bodies, where women are brought up to sit back and be kind.

Men are default humans the world over, and look at the state of the world!

I reckon women could do so much better.
