For me it’s Alan Rickman (who I absolutely love in everything else) as Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility. He came across so unbelievably creepy and repulsive and not the gallant kind soul he is in the book.

Came to say Keira Knightly as Lizzy Bennet but been beaten to it. How that wooden performance got an Oscar nomination just shows what a pile of shit that award is!

Dakota Johnson as Anne Elliot.

Much as I love Rickman's Snape he was way too old for the part.

I love Steve Buscemi but never bought him as a gangster in Boardwalk Empire; his eyes are too kind.

I never thought of that but you are so right…..did you like his performance in the sopranos ? I felt so sorry for his character, yet another victim of Tony’s narcissism

SpideyCraw · 06/01/2023 23:29

Gerard Butler as the Phantom.

The role is one of a hideously ugly and deformed man with a hauntingly beautiful voice and yet they cast a tone deaf hottie

Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon in the Da Vinci Code. Should have been Liam Neeson or Harrison Ford.

I had come on to say this. I loved the books and it really ruined the films for me. He's a great actor but not suited to that role.

moggerhanger · 06/01/2023 23:30

Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. Too mannered and weird. Mind you, I hate the whole film.

I'd like to see David Suchet as Willy Wonka though. I think he could do the right mix of enthusiasm and menace.

Andie Macdowell in 4 weddings.
Ruined it.

Awful I agree.

AssumingDirectControl · 06/01/2023 23:34

I thought Daniel Craig was ok in Knives Out because I assumed he’s supposed to be a parody character. Maybe he’s not, and he’s just terrible. I mean, I find him terrible in absolutely everything else (his accent in Munich was astoundingly poor) so perhaps that’s just what it is.

PocketBattleship · 06/01/2023 23:35

Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. Too mannered and weird. Mind you, I hate the whole film.

I thought he was too young for the role as well.

I think it was his accent in Knives Out that annoyed me, his acting was perfectly fine

moggerhanger · 06/01/2023 23:37

@PocketBattleship that too!

1.Orlando Bloom as Paris in Troy. Paris was meant to be the most beautiful man in the ancient world…khmmm.
I don’t know who should have played Paris though..maybe Eric Bana. At least he is gorgeous.
2.Johnny Depp in Secret Window. Big mistake because Johnny Depp is not scary at all.
3.Gerard Depardieu as Cristopher Colombus. His acting was good but he played a Spaniard who spoke English with a French accent.

Colombus wasn't Spanish. He was from Genoa ( Italy.)

Kenneth Branagh as Poirot.

100% came here to say this. Absolutely wrong. Also John Malkovich as Poirot- totally miscast

Daisy38 · 06/01/2023 23:42

Helen Baxendale as Pandora Braithwaite. She seemed all wrong for the part.

Andie Macdowell in 4 weddings.

Literally everyone says this. How was she allowed to continue in the role after clearly being terrible and having no chemistry with anyone. The one scene where she lists her lovers is so badly done it’s like a made for TV us drama.

Bearonthestair · 06/01/2023 23:47

James Corden in absolutely everything that is not Gavin and Stacey.

Cuba Gooding Jnr as OJ Simpson. It really annoyed me. He looked tiny compared to the rest of the cast.

ladydimitrescu · 06/01/2023 23:48

Emma Watson as Belle - I cannot move past it.

FangedFrisbee · 06/01/2023 23:48

EsmeShelby · 06/01/2023 21:46

Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. Reacher is 6.5 Cruise is 5.8

THIS!!! It really pissed me off!! The whole premise of the books is that Reacher is huge!!

ladydimitrescu · 06/01/2023 23:49

Russel Crowe in les mis

VisaGeezer · 06/01/2023 23:49

Brad Pitt as Achilles.

Colin Farrell as Alexander.

One Day - Emma should’ve been played by Anna Maxwell Martin - in repose she is on the plain side but IMO can look occasionally look rather beautiful (not the Wallace face as in Motherland). She’s who I cast (in my head) when the book came out. I like Anne Hathaway but her Yorkshire accent was all over England.

The Time Traveler’s Wife - I would’ve cast Cate Blanchett as Clare - Rachel McAdam didn’t do it for me

I had great expectations both films (having read the books) but was definitely left wanting

Did you watch the recent series of TTW? I thought Theo James and Rose Leslie were perfectly cast as Henry and Claire, as were all the younger versions of Claire.
Miscast: Sophia Coppolla in Godfather III
Andie McDowell in four weddings and a funeral.
Nicholas Cage in Captain Corelli's Mandolin
Sean Young (80's Actress) in everything

VisaGeezer · 06/01/2023 23:52

Josh Hutcherson did not seem to represent the book character Peeta (sp) in Hunger Games Trilogy.

VisaGeezer · 06/01/2023 23:53

Agree with whoever said Jonathan Rhys Meyers was a bizarre casting choice as Henry the 8th.

And he started speaking with some kind of weird Irish accent (not his own) as the series went on.

PugInTheHouse · 06/01/2023 23:54

jeannie46 · 06/01/2023 23:31

Awful I agree.

I don't really like her in anything

Revengers · 06/01/2023 23:54

Amy Adams in Man of Steel as Lois Lane. She really just wasn't right for that part AT ALL!!
