For me it’s Alan Rickman (who I absolutely love in everything else) as Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility. He came across so unbelievably creepy and repulsive and not the gallant kind soul he is in the book.

David Jason in A Touch Of Frost. I've never rated him as an actor anyway but I think he was mis-cast in this series, perhaps because I'm used to seeing him in comedy roles. On the other hand, I found Helen Mirren incredibly convincing in Prime Suspect.

Yes very much agree with this!

Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury. Freddie had such presence which Rami lacked - and he didn't have Freddie's height.

And Freddie was beautiful.

That’s not how I saw it at all! That character is already not the kind/mild mannered type before he ever hears of the hotel. He’s an alcoholic who has attacked one of his students and broken his own toddler’s arm. I don’t think it was just the malevolent force of the hotel.

For me the issue was how comical the part after he goes mad was. I don’t know if that’s just the dated aspect of the film though, where some things become comical.

Speaking on Stephen King, a lot of his adaptations are soooo miscast. Although on the flip side he has some that are brilliantly cast.

For me it's the wife. She can't act for toffee.

For me it's the wife. She can't act for toffee.

She was probably in the middle of a breakdown. The poor woman was treated horrendously onset, and claimed afterwards that the experience nearly broke her.

She tried to thank Kubrick along the lines of 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger blah blah' but I saw some of the footage and it was not comfortable viewing in the slightest.

Doctor Sleep wasn't a bad adaptation, I liked Rebecca Ferguson as Rose the Hat (but did think Snakebite Andi was very miscast).

I also thought Dafne Keen made an excellent Lyra. She really did justice to those final episodes, and as a die-hard and longstanding Pullman fan I didn't find the hair grated at all. The roles of her parents and Lee Scoresby were excellently cast as well. I now can't see Asriel as anyone other than McAvoy, and Wilson as Coulter was magnificent!

I agree @GlitchStitch ".....She's like his Mum."
It should have been either Kate or Leo.

I really like the recent TV adaptation of Mick Herron's Slough House series. The casting is generally bob-on... except for Freddie Fox, who plays 'Spider' Webb. Spider's meant to be an awful person, and a self-serving popinjay. But even factoring that in, it's a horrible, gurning, scenery-chewing performance.

It doesn't help that most of his scenes are with Kristin Scott Thomas, who can act him off the set with a single raised eyebrow.

He was very good in Gilbert Grape.

Oscar nominated for that performance, at the age of 19. Eventually did win an Oscar. He's great in Wolf of Wall street, too.

I like LdiC!

When I saw the title I also thought Daniel Craig in the Knives out/Glass Onion films!

Think Ray Winston wouldn't have been good for the younger Henry VIII.

There was another actor (Steve Waddington) who was actually in the Tudors that was way more suited to the role. Tall, broad, attractive and a red head, so suitable for younger Henry. (Also possessed better acting skills than Jonathan Rhys Myers, but that wouldn't be difficult.)

Steve Waddington's character was killed off early and my opinion of JRM went continuously downhill from season 1. Especially as JRM did increasingly more shouting as Henry got older, can presumably to make up for the lack of increasing size.

I mean, there was not a lot JRM could have done about his height so fine. But he refused to bulk up or wear a fat suit for older Henry. That bugged me even more and I ended up literally tutting whenever he appeared on screen shouting lines in the later seasons.

Not sure why I continued watching, especially considering it still annoys me so many years later 😃. (Though to clarify I don't think about it that often 🙂 - just when questions like this or JRM is mentioned.)

One of the castings in The Tudors that really surprised me was Joss Stone as Anne of Cleeves.
I thought at the time 'Oh God, they have given her the part just because she's Joss Stone.'
Serves me right for being judgey, I thought she was great!
