For me it’s Alan Rickman (who I absolutely love in everything else) as Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility. He came across so unbelievably creepy and repulsive and not the gallant kind soul he is in the book.

Also ... Jack Black in anything .... especially The Holiday!

And on The Holiday ... Cameron Diaz - she only has one acting style and acts the same in every movie!

Oh yes Jack Black in The Holiday was one of the worst bits of casting ever! It totally ruins the film for me!

Argh, this is one of my favourites 😍

Me too! Kevin is almost so badly cast, it’s good! 😂

NearlyMidnight · 06/01/2023 23:05

Mark Rylance as Cromwell grew on me as the series progressed

Agree Cromwell was supposed to be a brawler, a thug, a streetfighter - and MR didn't have that. But he did get across the cunning, the strategist, the highly intelligent self-educated side of the character.

NearlyMidnight · 06/01/2023 23:06

Agree with Kevin C in Robin Hood. Dreadful

Cinecitta · 06/01/2023 23:06

1.Orlando Bloom as Paris in Troy. Paris was meant to be the most beautiful man in the ancient world…khmmm.
I don’t know who should have played Paris though..maybe Eric Bana. At least he is gorgeous.
2.Johnny Depp in Secret Window. Big mistake because Johnny Depp is not scary at all.
3.Gerard Depardieu as Cristopher Colombus. His acting was good but he played a Spaniard who spoke English with a French accent.

SecretVictoria · 06/01/2023 23:08

Nicolas Lyndhurst as ‘Freddie the Frog’ in the OFAH prequel ‘Rock & Chips’. He just doesn’t have the air of menace to play a major villain and in appearing in anything OFAH related, all I could think was ‘Rodney’.

He CAN play tough, when he was in New Tricks there was a scene where someone tried to mug him and they ended up on the floor. But as a major gangster type, it just didn’t wash.

Cameron Diaz in Gangs of New York. Come on, she is a Californian surfer girl!

Me too! Kevin is almost so badly cast, it’s good! 😂

Many years ago I remember the disappointment of teenage me finding out it wasn't his arse on display in the lake, sadly it was a stunt double. 😳

leonardo di caprio in everything. always just playing himself.

Yes! Why does he keep being cast in anything? The only remotely believable thing he's done was the slave - owner in Django Unchained. Everything else - throw a big ole wardrobe in front of the camera & it'll be slightly less wooden.

MintyPrincess · 06/01/2023 23:15

Keira Knightly in anything

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 06/01/2023 23:15

Nicholas Cage (who I love) in Captain Corelli's Mandolin (loved the book, film was poor, whoever cast NC hadn't read the book).

Daniel Craig - generally a great actor and gorgeous - totally miscast in Knives Out. Great movie, badly cast

felulageller · 06/01/2023 22:11

Rene Zelwegger as Bridget Jones.

She tried hard but it should have been an Englishwoman. And a naturally plump one at that.

Yes, it pissed me off so much that they cast a bloody American in that role.

Claire Danes in Stardust, can only see her as Carrie in Homeland

I see her as Angela in My So Called Life (showing my age 😆😆)

He was very good in Gilbert Grape.

RaraRachael · 06/01/2023 23:19

Sean Connery and James Nesbit in anything - their own accent regardless of who they're playing.

It's the way he leans ... 💜

Batiqueattic · 06/01/2023 23:20

I love Steve Buscemi but never bought him as a gangster in Boardwalk Empire; his eyes are too kind.

DuesToTheDirt · 06/01/2023 23:20

SausagePourHomme · 06/01/2023 22:37

leonardo di caprio in everything. always just playing himself.

I have to disagree there - he was unrecognisable (and amazing) in What's Eating Gilbert Grape.

Even worse was Jay from the inbetweeners playing young Del Boy. Absolute shit.

DrManhattan · 06/01/2023 23:22

Russel Crowe in the latest Thor film. Wtf is that about.

To be fair I think Renee did an amazing job as Bridget Jones.

JaneJeffer · 06/01/2023 23:24

I love her as Bridget. Can't imagine anyone else playing the part.

MooseBreath · 06/01/2023 22:14

Michael Gambon as Dumbledore in Harry Potter 3-8. Reading the very popular and easy to read source material should've been a prerequisite to the role.

Yep. Richard Harris nailed it.

TwoMonthsOff · 06/01/2023 23:26

That film with Colin Farrell with a yellow curly wig on and his normal / natural black eyebrows plays a Roman emperor, he just looked utterly daft and was cast because he was the ‘hot’ actor of that time, it’s a really bad movie

JaneJeffer · 06/01/2023 23:26

Keira is perfect in Atonement
