For me it’s Alan Rickman (who I absolutely love in everything else) as Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility. He came across so unbelievably creepy and repulsive and not the gallant kind soul he is in the book.

I never thought of that but you are so right…..did you like his performance in the sopranos ? I felt so sorry for his character, yet another victim of Tony’s narcissism

But he didn't really ever see himself as a gangster. I thought Buscemi worked well. He does long-suffering brilliantly; that almost self pitying weariness, but as an audience, you mind if despise him cos he brings it on himself and he has a sentimental streak.

Agree with knightly in Atonement too. But mcAvoy v miscast. Nowhere near tall enough.

Literally everyone says this. How was she allowed to continue in the role after clearly being terrible and having no chemistry with anyone. The one scene where she lists her lovers is so badly done it’s like a made for TV us drama.

Is. It. Still. Raining?

Nastassja Kinski in Tess. Tess Durbeyfiled was a simple farm girl. Pretty, yes, but poor. NK was stunningly beautiful - and quite definitely not poor. It was along time ago that I saw it but I just remember thinking Tess was pathetic and not really believable at all.

Gemma Arterton was a well cast Tess.

I hadn't noticed.

Agree with that.

Much as I have a thing for Brad Pitt, I don't see him as Achilles. Possibly odysseus or even Agamemnon. Bloke who plays Homelander would have made a better Achilles.

SocksAndTheCity · 07/01/2023 00:00

I thought Andie McDowell was great in Maid (and with her real life daughter too); I haven't seen FWAAF, but from what I know of it I can well believe she was terrible in that. I cannot watch anything with Hugh Grant in it, so I wouldn't have lasted two minutes 😂

Brad Pitt can only do quirky, cocky, smart ass, occasionally vulnerable.... He is not a strong actor in general. Totally wrong for that role.

He mostly irritates me. I feel like the only hetero woman who has not fancied Brad Pitt or Tom Hardy.

Yes, Anthony Starr can at least act.

Though he has a schtick - in everything he's in - and I'm not sure it would work as a Greek demi god.

Jason Statham or Vin Diesel in... well absolutely anything. 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ as much charisma as a brick wall

Statham is good in Spy, in which he plays a thick but tough secret agent. Draw your own conclusions.

pissed me off so much that they cast a bloody American in that role
I love her as Bridget. Can't imagine anyone else playing the part.

I agree, I loved her.

Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet

I really liked her in P&P. Felt more authentically like a young and Larry woman than Jennifer Ehle did in the 1995 BBC adaptation.

Iamthewombat · 07/01/2023 00:07

LARKY not Larry!!!!

Emma Watson as Hermione Granger
Emma Watson as Belle in Beauty & the Beast

Emma Watson as Meg March in Little Women

AngeloMysterioso · 07/01/2023 00:10

The insufferable Emma Corrin in Lady Chatterly’s Lover. As much sexuality as a pile of damp twigs.

Nicholas Cage in Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.

This is what first sprang to mind for me too. I loved the book but his terrible acting made me cringe my way through the film.

I was going to say EW in B&B. In my opinion, she was like a cardboard cut-out of Belle from the cartoon version and it spoiled the film for me. I just felt that there was no chemistry between her and any of the other actors.

CrawlingFromShitshowToAfterglow · 07/01/2023 00:12

Ben Affleck in Daredevil,
Nicholas Cage in Captain Correlli's Mandolin (loved the book; film was a pile of pants even without the miscasting), Johnny Depp as the Lone Ranger, Russell Crowe in Les Mis, Keanu Reeves in Dracula (love him, but he really wasn't very good).

They say Liam Hemsworth is going to replace Henry Cavill in The Witcher. I really can't see him pulling it off to be honest. Cavill IS The Witcher.

I see her as Angela in My So Called Life (showing my age 😆😆)

But how luminous was she in Romeo+Juliet? 🫠 It was on TV last week and she steals every scene.

His acting is generally sketchy.

Ironically he changed his name to avoid nepotism/favouritism .... But you have to wonder how far his career would have gotten without people still knowing .. him still having those contacts.

Cattenberg · 07/01/2023 00:13

Ruth Wilson is an excellent actor but I thought she was an odd choice to play Jane Eyre.

Jane Eyre grew up in an orphanage. Later, Mr Rochester says to Jane, “you’re very small, didn’t they feed you?” Jane replied, “no, sir”.

It would have been a poignant scene, but my family and I couldn’t help giggling. Ruth Wilson is taller than average and nothing like small, plain Jane Eyre.

Me too, I really liked her as Lizzie. Also, great chemistry between her and Mathew MacFadyen.

VisaGeezer · 07/01/2023 00:15

Keanu Reeves in Dracula (love him, but he really wasn't very good).

Equally sh!t in Dangerous Liasons around that time.

Another person who's successful on looks and being able to pull off certain roles.

CrawlingFromShitshowToAfterglow · 07/01/2023 00:16

Agree - I can only think of My So Called Life when I see her in anything. Same with Jared Leto - I wonder "What happened to my 90s crush?" when I see him as the Joker etc.😂

Everyone in the latest series of the Crown

Yes to this! We had to stop watching as pretty much everyone felt miscast.

VisaGeezer · 07/01/2023 00:17

Johnny Depp as the Lone Ranger

Tonto?

That handsome BDSM cannibal was the LR

JaneJeffer · 07/01/2023 00:17

I hate that P&P film. I want to shove them all into a bath. Bunch of scruffs.
