To think the new British Airways uniform (announced today) is awful?

The options are either a jumpsuit all in one or what is basically a suit and skirt. The males are fine with their suit but us the girls have been screwed over. Myself and pretty much every other crew member I know think it’s awful, we’ve been told if we don’t agree to wear it then our contracts will be terminated. Nothing feminine about it. Your fine wearing the suit if your a man but us females will look so manly it’s terrible!

Do female pilots have to choose one of those too? I've only ever seen them in trouser suits I think.

'The designer' is Ozwald Boateng!!

He’s done the men’s uniform fine but not the one for us females. A female should have designed the female uniform.

There was a skirt option with the former uniform.

If we choose trousers it has to be the men’s trousers.

Seriously! That's bonkers that there isn't actually a pair of trousers included in the women's uniform options.

The press release seemed to indicate they were women's trousers. Awful of them to do this.

OP I think you need to team up with colleagues here and make a fuss

caravanbuckie · 06/01/2023 16:52

Tbh it looks like a rip of the LNER uniform with the blue/red mix up

anotheruser173 · 06/01/2023 16:53

I hate the jumpsuit and any woman my size would, but don't you still have weight restrictions for cabin crew? I.e. given your weight has to be proportionate to your height, you're probably all thin enough to get away with wearing such horrid clothes?

I do agree though, that a jumpsuit is a terrible choice of outfit for a plane... It's just not practical.

That's ever so slightly sexist, isn't it? Do women therefore have to have waistbands that are too large in order to get trousers that fit their hips? Are they not prepared to acknowledge that women's lower bodies are shaped differently from men's?

user143677433 · 06/01/2023 16:54

Why the hell does the skirt have a giant red arrow pointing to the fanjo?

Surely there must be a trousers and jacket option for women, not just the KwikFit overalls option?

GCAcademic · 06/01/2023 16:54

I love Ozwald Boeteng (my husband wore one of his suits for our wedding) but he's not known for women's tailoring, and you can see that with these designs.

Panama2 · 06/01/2023 16:54

The jumpsuit looks more like a boiler suit and whoever is wearing it is about to do a quick oil change on a vehicle.

HellonHeels · 06/01/2023 16:54

That is ugly and frumpy AF. The skirt especially, with the big red 'vag this way' arrow on it.

Jumpsuit totally impractical for plane loos.

Who designed that one then? The skirts seem quite old-fashioned.

TangledWebOfDeception · 06/01/2023 16:55

It infuriates me when women have no trouser option but to wear a man's pair. Not on at all.

spuddel · 06/01/2023 16:56

It's hideous, all of it. Looks like it's made of polyester too.

Me too! It's 2023 for goodness sake surley most women would ahve chosen trousers over a jumpsuit if given any say on the matter.

diddl · 06/01/2023 16:56

So if the women can't get trousers to fit comfortably is the hope that they'll go for the dress/skirt?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 06/01/2023 16:57

notimagain · 06/01/2023 16:51

Oh I'm sure there was, I just meant I'd seen female pilots in trouser suits (although quite possibly not for BA), and did they no longer have that option in the new uniform.

stewielouie · 06/01/2023 16:18

Would not fancy dealing with a jumpsuit in a plane loo!

This was my first thought

Snarkysnarksnark · 06/01/2023 16:57

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 06/01/2023 16:49

Corporate uniform is shit. What's new?

Exactly. No passenger is going to think you’ve picked it yourself and are making a style statement.
It’s a uniform.
It’s never going to look amazing. I wear pyjamas (scrubs) to work. Nothing stylish about them 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ericaequites · 06/01/2023 16:58

Jumpsuits are very hard to fit, and aren’t flattering to most figures. You can do many attractive tricks with scarves so they don’t hang in food. I like the suit and dress, but still like ‘80s styles. It’s very clean and crisp overall.

FirThusThraed · 06/01/2023 16:58

I don't like the red pleat but the rest is OK. In fact I think the all navy skirt photo 2 is lovely. I hate those cheap white blouses that some airline personnel wear that are usually busting at the seams showing their bras.

Soontobe60 · 06/01/2023 17:00

Just tell them you identify as a bloke and wear one of the men’s suits.

megletthesecond · 06/01/2023 17:00

Yanbu. Why don't the women have trousers?
How on earth can they use the loo on a plane wearing a jumpsuit?!

Velda · 06/01/2023 17:00

It seems very unreasonable to choose a jumpsuit as the only trouser option. The difficulties of having to take it right down to your ankles to use the loo! And jumpsuits aren’t flattering for ladies with large tummies, who would probably prefer separate bottoms and an untucked top that skims over the bumps. The skirt with the red is just hideous.
