To think the new British Airways uniform (announced today) is awful?

The options are either a jumpsuit all in one or what is basically a suit and skirt. The males are fine with their suit but us the girls have been screwed over. Myself and pretty much every other crew member I know think it’s awful, we’ve been told if we don’t agree to wear it then our contracts will be terminated. Nothing feminine about it. Your fine wearing the suit if your a man but us females will look so manly it’s terrible!

I actually think it's quite lovely.

The current uniform is fine but this new one looks god awful

I agree. The jumpsuit and dress are very "industrial" looking. Why not offer a women's trouser suit instead of a jumpsuit?
The men's suit is elegant. It projects an air of seniority. If you saw a man in that suit next to a woman in the glorified boiler suit, he'd look like he was her senior. Unconscious bias on the part of the designer?

MajorCarolDanvers · 06/01/2023 16:26

I like both.

Change is always unsettling. You will get used to it.

Would not fancy dealing with a jumpsuit in a plane loo!

That was my first thought

Looks very restrictive and uncomfortable too

LightSpeeds · 06/01/2023 16:27

My first thought was going to the toilet with it... 😬

woopdedoodle · 06/01/2023 16:27

Frankly the female suit option looks like my school uniform from about 1978.

PatriciaHolm · 06/01/2023 16:27

The BA website says there is a trouser option for women, as well as dress and skirt options.

PuttingDownRoots · 06/01/2023 16:27

I think if the jumpsuit was separate top and trousers it would be reasonably ok...

BIWI · 06/01/2023 16:28

Female staff can wear trousers, and all staff have been consulted about the uniform changes:

Hideous.

The jumpsuit reminds me of those overalls that mechanics wear.

That weird skirt insert looks like a blood waterfall.

SalviaOfficinalis · 06/01/2023 16:29

Definitely not up for the big red triangle emanating from one’s vagina (sorry, vulva).

Jumpsuit will be horribly restrictive if it’s not stretchy material. And half an hour to go to the loo.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 06/01/2023 16:29

Of course your contract would be terminated if you refused to wear the uniform. I mean, people who work for Sainsburys or B&Q would face the same. If you took the job based on the clothing, you made a bit of an error of judgement.

Quite like the dress, not keen on the rest but the long haul layovers would help me cope.

MistyRock · 06/01/2023 16:30

It looks fine to me, and those saying that the red but looks like a period leak, that never even crossed my mind. Honestly, how can that be your first thought on it!

MsFogi · 06/01/2023 16:31

When I read it I did wonder about the jumpsuit/hassle of going to the loo situation - I take it they don't have a loo flap at the back?!

ILoveeCakes · 06/01/2023 16:16

A lot of people are struggling to eat right now, so won't be going on any flight for a while, let alone a BA one. If they were so lucky, I think the last think they would be worried about are the subtle details of their uniforms. They'd probably be happy whatever they were wearing.

She's not wearing it to go on her jollies. It's her work uniform. She's no more lucky to be at work than anyone else with a job just because her work is done on a plane.

Phos · 06/01/2023 16:31

The dress is ok. A jumpsuit seems rather impractical for going for a wee during a flight.

Dahlietta · 06/01/2023 16:31

I don't see how the suit option is wildly different from the current offering to wear.

Fedupnowhadenough · 06/01/2023 16:33

Horrible and very old fashioned

Ilikewinter · 06/01/2023 16:35

I agree with all comments on the jumpsuit. Plus they are very restictive and not forgiving!. I used to wear one but it took ages to find one that fitted, either too long legged, tooshort body, too tight across the chest or hips and bum. I cant see it being the popular choice!

That’s not accurate. BA only consulted the “uniform ambassadors”

I quite like the dress

MistyGreenAndBlue · 06/01/2023 16:38

I'd be getting the sewing machine out and turning that jumpsuit into separates if I wasn't allowed to wear trousers with the suit. That skirt is appalling.

The red on the skirt is awful

Mañanarama · 06/01/2023 16:38

The dress is alright, the skirts are awful, and the jumpsuit would look a dog on most people (and no thanks to trailing that around on the toilet floor!) I’d be asking why women can’t have a tailored trouser option?
