To think the new British Airways uniform (announced today) is awful?

The options are either a jumpsuit all in one or what is basically a suit and skirt. The males are fine with their suit but us the girls have been screwed over. Myself and pretty much every other crew member I know think it’s awful, we’ve been told if we don’t agree to wear it then our contracts will be terminated. Nothing feminine about it. Your fine wearing the suit if your a man but us females will look so manly it’s terrible!

So the only trousers for women are men's trousers? That's shit.

It's so ugly and 1980s. All of it. Horrible

ChimbarasiKotapaxi · 06/01/2023 17:15

It's awful

lieselotte · 06/01/2023 17:15

It sounds from the article as if there will be womens trouser options.

Anyway, you are all in a union aren't you? If you don't like the options, you strike and make them offer a proper female alternative if it genuinely doesn't exist. I know people think unisex is acceptable when it isn't, because unisex equals mens fit, generally. But I have to say it doesn't actually sounds like the trousers will be a mens fit.

The photos on the BBC article make it look quite nice. Although the suit looks almost the same, I wonder how much money BA has wasted on coming up with fixing something that wasn't broken.

LlynTegid · 06/01/2023 17:16

As long as women can have trousers or skirts, and those designed for their shape, no issue as far as I can see.

Now can British Airways start to provide a service worthy of a flagship airline. I have had too many delays for things within their control to consider them as an option any more. Last time I flew with them they were delayed on the return flight because of not enough baby floatation jackets, and I doubt those with infants booked last minute.

StarlightLady · 06/01/2023 17:16

Designed by a man! Most women who have sat on a loo, half naked to have a wee when wearing a jumpsuit will know they are not practical for everyday work wear.

BA previously tried (and failed) to insist that female cabin crew who had been employed in fairly recent times (known by them as "mixed fleet" cabin crew) had to wear skirts. I think the jumpsuits may go the same way.

Why not the option of dress, skirt or trousers?

bigdecisionstomake · 06/01/2023 17:16

Haven't rtft but a jumpsuit.... to go to the toilet on a plane.... what were they thinking. I'm going to guess it was designed by a man with no thought for the practical side. BA are not what they used to be.

caravanbuckie · 06/01/2023 17:16

You all know these are options, not compulsory?

Nobody has to wear a jumpsuit.

caravanbuckie · 06/01/2023 17:17

@StarlightLady

Why not the option of dress, skirt or trousers?

They have these options.

PleaseBeHappy2023 · 06/01/2023 17:18

It's awful.
The man's uniform is fine.
The women's uniform is dire. Looks terrible and impractical. The red spilt is hideous. The jumpsuit - wtaf. Going to the loo on a plane in a jumpsuit? And it looks like a boiler suit. No other option for trousers for women. The dress is the best of a bad bunch.

EmmaEmerald · 06/01/2023 17:19

Waterandair · 06/01/2023 16:43

If we choose trousers it has to be the men’s trousers.

So there's no trouser cut for women at all?

BinleyMegaChippy · 06/01/2023 17:19

Just seen pics of crew wearing it at the crc. It's awful. What's the material like? Looks creased as hell from what I can see from the pics.

loopyloutoo · 06/01/2023 17:20

Gosh it is so awful! The current uniform looks so much better?

Waterandair · 06/01/2023 17:20

The current uniform (which is fine) was designed by Julien MacDonald OBE and this new uniform was designed by Ozwald Boateng OBE. I don’t get why they couldn’t have Ozwald design the Men’s uniform only and actually have a female design the female uniform!

ErrolTheDragon · 06/01/2023 17:23

The jumpsuit - wtaf. Going to the loo on a plane in a jumpsuit?

Whoever designed it and signed off on it - male or female - should be made to wear one for a long haul flight.

Hopefully someone will see sense and add some women's cut trousers.
But wtf waste money redesigning uniforms right now?

Stravaig · 06/01/2023 17:23

No tailored trousers and waistcoat for women? That would be my preference, both practical and feminine if cut well.

That scarflet is ridiculous, flashback to 80's guide uniform!

JustMerkinYourChain · 06/01/2023 17:23

Chersfrozenface · 06/01/2023 16:19

So no jacket and trousers for women? The only trouser option is a jumpsuit?

Aren't jumpsuits an absolute nightmare for women when going to the toilet?

Yes, what I thought, it’s a bit ‘wear a nice skirt and show your legs otherwise we’ll make you wear the most impractical option for going to the toilet in confined quarters.’ Not to mention that jumpsuits are very hard to get a right fit on based on torso length.

JustMerkinYourChain · 06/01/2023 17:24

caravanbuckie · 06/01/2023 17:16

Nobody has to wear a jumpsuit.

Are there women’s trousers (as in cut for women) available then?

saltinesandcoffeecups · 06/01/2023 17:26

I’m surprised there’s not a long sleeve version for the dress (maybe an optional sweater?). I will admit I hate the skirt/blazer option, it looks really blocky and like it would be unflattering on the majority of women.

the only practical thing about the jumpsuit that I could imagine is ease of packing… but yeah no way would I wear on a plane (or anywhere/anytime I’ve hated jumpsuits since I was a kid of the 70’s forced to wear them)

MaverickGooseGoose · 06/01/2023 17:28

ILoveeCakes · 06/01/2023 16:16

A lot of people are struggling to eat right now, so won't be going on any flight for a while, let alone a BA one. If they were so lucky, I think the last think they would be worried about are the subtle details of their uniforms. They'd probably be happy whatever they were wearing.

Oh come on, there are plenty that can still afford to fly. Doesn't have to be a race to piss on other peoples chips.

I don't like the jumpsuit but the rest is ok.

JustMerkinYourChain · 06/01/2023 17:28

Just imagining going to the toilet on a plane in a tailored jumpsuit, to avoid it dragging on the urine splashed ground you’d have to fully remove it. Imagine having your period.
