Opinions please! Ignore my outfit I'm aware it doesn't match lol but considering this bag - if I get it I would wear with simplistic outfits but what do you think?

DH thinks it's disgusting (not the design but the print because of its connotations) but want to know if he's outnumbered or not!

I loathe ostentatious branding, so it's a no from me.
I've made it past 50 without ever owning a handbag though, so I'm possibly not the best guide! Do you have nice big pockets in that coat?

Lol yes it's amazing and the pockets are faux fur lined - it was from Hobbs but last season

Also sorry for using the word chav if it offended anyone it's IMO not for someone you think is lesser than you at all to me chav means tasteless like Burberry head to to but if I offended anyone sorry

I know the OP is long gone but i like it. I do however appreciate Louis Vuitton printed canvas isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Lol no I'm still here !

Actually had another look - it’s too structured for a quilted coat/leggings /trainers outfit, would look nice with a wool coat and jeans. Just not black /grey. Do you wear lots of blues and greens and beiges ?

Yes I mentioned in the Op I was only trying it on I wouldn't style it with those clothes if I bought it.

I wear greys and blues yes

It’s like that really small Gucci bag everyone has.. When I see the mini versions of crazily expensive bags I just assume people really, really want something from that particular brand (for whatever reason) and buy the cheapest thing they can in the shop.
I'm not a handbag expert or a fan of labels, but I saw something on social media that proposed that the very obviously designer items aren't aimed at wealthy people, they're aimed at average income people who want to look wealthy. The bag might be expensive by normal people standards, but it isn't by wealthy people standards.

Someone wrote a piece on the designer make up move years ago, and IIRC it was that designers found they could make a huge amount of money from people who couldn't afford to buy an outfit from them but who would part with £150 on makeup.

I found it an interesting idea.

This is interesting, a similar marketing ploy to the “reassuringly expensive” tactic that I’m sure we all buy into day in day out.

I don’t know what it’s like nowadays but the Tiffany’s from peak 2000 era would probably back up your theory. It seemed to be two shops in one really with half of it selling costume jewellery and trinkets at silly prices, for people that wanted to be the kind of person shopped at Tiffany’s but couldn’t come close to affording what was in the other side of the shop - which was very, very expensive. Tiffany’s seems to have fallen from favour a bit now.

I was at an event a while back with a friend who pointed out that someone in the crowd that we both half knew was carrying a 5k handbag. It wasn’t one of the “obvious” brands like LV, Gucci, Chanel and it didn’t have huge markings on it. One of those bags that only a small percentage of the population would recognise - kind of a different marketing approach. Only those who could afford the bag, or are really, really into bags on a deeper level, recognise.

Florissant · 30/12/2022 13:06

I am not a fan of LV as it is not leather but canvas. So it's a no from me, too.

UseOfWeapons · 30/12/2022 13:27

Looks fake, I wouldn't bother.

Jazz12 · 30/12/2022 13:32

I hate this design from LV. The bags look very wanna be. Nothing classy or beautiful about them all

HelloBunny · 30/12/2022 13:36

If I see LV etc... in a nice area, of London say, then fair enough. Anywhere else, I assume it’s a fake.

Toddlerteaplease · 30/12/2022 13:40

Chav and I'd think it was fake.

SchnauzerEyebrows · 30/12/2022 14:29

I think it's both! It's nice but unfortunately now considered chavvy as well. It's a shame

There are plenty of wealthy people who don’t live in London! 🤦‍♀️

Clarich007 · 30/12/2022 14:39

Definately chav, sorry, and the colour and shape are awful. How much are they charging.??
Also the leather looks and feels like plastic.
I feel the same about Marc Jacobs and some other designers.

SchnauzerEyebrows · 30/12/2022 14:39

I recently heard the story behind Louis Vuitton and it's actually fascinating and is a real shame it's now considered chavvy. He began making exquisitely good quality luggage a very long time ago. So there is a long history there

Agree with all of this. Saint Laurent's entire handbag range is testament to this.

It is also worth nothing that most designer brands make the majority of their money from perfume, make-up, and handbags (in that order, IIRC).

I live in the richest town in England.....6 hours away from London 🤓

IsThePopeCatholic · 30/12/2022 14:41

Tacky design.

LadyPoison · 30/12/2022 14:41

No from me too

I have a (genuine) LV backpack in that print. I've never used it for the reasons given above.

Indeed! How thick does someone have to be to assume that a designer/expensive bag outside London is a fake 🤦‍♀️

I have many expensive bags, including some LV and not only do I not live in London, I actually live in, get this, rural Ireland. And sometimes, like today, I wear inexpensive clothes while farting my expensive bags. Stereotypes are a waste of time.

So bitchy on this thread - what is it about designer bags that’s attracts such awful comments. Normally posters on here are falling over themselves to tell you to ‘be kind’ or ‘if you have nothing nice to say - say nothing.’ Clearly if you own or aspire to own an expensive bag you are fair game to be insulted.

eh?
The only place I usually see that kind of nonsense is the weekly "everyone is so horrid" threads.

I think the monogram canvas has its place, but it works better on the more classic designs. I own a Speedy, which has been around for years - I love all the old photos of Audrey Hepburn with hers.

I’m not keen on the more ‘trendy’ shapes.

Unfortunately, though, the print is everywhere and people are quick to assume fake as a result. I still use mine because I like it, regardless.
