Opinions please! Ignore my outfit I'm aware it doesn't match lol but considering this bag - if I get it I would wear with simplistic outfits but what do you think?

DH thinks it's disgusting (not the design but the print because of its connotations) but want to know if he's outnumbered or not!

Is this Louis Vuitton bag chav or nice?

I’ve never really understood why having got a bag for a bargain price is a bad thing. The idea that people should be celebrating having spent more than they can afford on things strikes me as a good definition of irrational behaviour.

I also think that using the word “chav” is far far chavvier than anything you could ever wear. A bit like saying something or someone is “common”. It’s about the least classy thing a person can do ever.

Wear the bag if you like OP. Screw what your husband or any other small minded person thinks about it.

oversized · 30/12/2022 10:12

I know the OP is long gone but i like it. I do however appreciate Louis Vuitton printed canvas isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Wishawisha · 30/12/2022 10:17

It’s like that really small Gucci bag everyone has.. When I see the mini versions of crazily expensive bags I just assume people really, really want something from that particular brand (for whatever reason) and buy the cheapest thing they can in the shop.
Maybe that’s not fair 😳

So bitchy on this thread - what is it about designer bags that’s attracts such awful comments. Normally posters on here are falling over themselves to tell you to ‘be kind’ or ‘if you have nothing nice to say - say nothing.’ Clearly if you own or aspire to own an expensive bag you are fair game to be insulted.

Always the way with designer bag threads. Posters get really weird about women spending money on themselves in this way. If you said you were spending a few £k on a bike or something “for the family” then that seems ok but on yourself it isn’t.

Most odd is when people say they’d rather spend the money on a holiday. A holiday that lasts a week and is then gone is somehow better than an item which will last for years and years.

I have absolutely no judgement on how someone else spends their money but designer bag threads always attract a lot of negative comments the other way

Once you realise that the sole issue is about jealousy of perceived wealth/social status, it all makes sense.

What I don't understand is why it's always LV bags in particular that receive all the opprobrium. How are they different to any other designer brand?

DillDanding · 30/12/2022 10:24

I don’t think it’s designer bags, per se.

It’s garish LV ones like the OP posted that people tend to hate.

The Gucci Soho? I have that too, and it wasn't cheap!

My 'thing' is nice handbags. I'm not really interested in designer clothes or shoes.

louderthan · 30/12/2022 10:36

I love it 😂 but the tackiness appeals, that's my taste! I basically dress like Kat Slater.

louderthan · 30/12/2022 10:39

Also agree that chav is a horrible word. I never use it.

SleepyRooster · 30/12/2022 10:41

I like it , only if genuine, and would wear it with blue denim/ white shirt, maybe slightly ironically I admit, but it's small enough to pull off

No not cheap at all (far from it!) but cheaper than a lot of other Gucci bags.

I'm not a handbag expert or a fan of labels, but I saw something on social media that proposed that the very obviously designer items aren't aimed at wealthy people, they're aimed at average income people who want to look wealthy. The bag might be expensive by normal people standards, but it isn't by wealthy people standards.

Someone wrote a piece on the designer make up move years ago, and IIRC it was that designers found they could make a huge amount of money from people who couldn't afford to buy an outfit from them but who would part with £150 on makeup.

I found it an interesting idea.

motherofqilins · 30/12/2022 10:46

@LimeCheesecake fully agree there and I have a limited selection of nice bags each having their own purpose. Like you mentioned the LV being more casual that is why I use my neverfull as my daily out and about bag, I have a smaller chloè bag I use as my more smart and polished but not overly formal bag like if I am meeting for a nice lunch, or have a meeting with someone etc that I use in the summer, then there is the l.k. bennet bag that I use if I need a bag that is small enough to be easy to carry but not so delicate I would be precious about it like for example going to a Christmas Market etc. it's about the bag fitting the outfit. it's easy for me as I go for the classic designs and stick to a very neutral colour pallet so none of my clothes clash with any of the bags

picnicshicnic · 30/12/2022 10:58

Scarling · 30/12/2022 00:14

Anything that obviously branded looks chavvy to me, sorry.

Agree. And also agree with pp that says it reminds her of the stuff on market stalls.

Thehop · 30/12/2022 11:01

I got a lovely lv bag on my 18th. Can't use it because I'm old and fat now and it looks fake because of the damn all over print 😂

Tiredo · 30/12/2022 11:03

If your DH is forced to wear it then I get him saying his bit however YOU are wearing it and YOU like it so wear it!

Its a bloody bag, I wouldn’t think any more or less of you for having a place to put your stuff in while you’re getting on with your business whether it’s designer or primark.

If you like it wear the bag.. and really lord it up infront of DH 🤩

Iwantmyoldnameback · 30/12/2022 11:12

I personally don't like it because I don't like the colour. I do know someone with one LV bag - not this one - and it casually appears in every photo. I find that a bit sad but that's social media for you.

MonicaGB · 30/12/2022 11:26

I have designer bags but dress cheaply. Bags always fit. Designers don't make clothes in my size. C'est la vie.

TheyreOnlyNoodlesMichael · 30/12/2022 11:30

I like it. I certainly wouldn't canvass the opinions of people who use terms like tacky and chavvy! If I like something I buy it because it's for me not other people 🤷‍♀️

Floweryflora · 30/12/2022 11:37

*The "giveaway" you were referring to was clearly not the bag. It was the idea that the person with the bag must not really be richer than you and it's either a fake or they can't really afford nice things. Which is obviously an issue for you8

you have genuinely made some erroneous assumptions. When I said I had a fake one years ago, I meant when I was in my 20s. I am now in my 50s.

im not going to talk about my financial position now . It would be crass. I will simply leave it at you’ve made a mistake. Genuinely.

@ReneBumsWombats

What I don't understand is why it's always LV bags in particular that receive all the opprobrium. How are they different to any other designer brand?

I suppose because LV, along with certain other brands like Chanel and Burberry, have been appropriated by people outside the demographic which they are targeted at (to put it diplomatically) more assiduously than many others.

I do understand that over-use dilutes a brand so I can grasp why seeing a logo on every market stall makes it look a bit cheap and naff. But it seems inevitable that this will happen with a very recognisable logo really... I don't know what people expect to happen.

Also if you assume that a market knock-off LV is tacky why would a genuine LV be any less tacky? Surely you'd have to get right up close to appreciate the difference anyway?

Shallistayorshalligo · 30/12/2022 11:46

OP, I did read some the responses to your original post, I went through two pages. I was so surprised with how many people would judge you just for the bag!😂
it actually made me want to buy one for myself, ha ha, it does seem to bring so many emotions!. The only thing, this bag is not to my life style, as I am very informal and just run around. So I guess, I get myself LV backpack. With the monogram. And I shall add a Burberry Thomas bear charm to it😁

GeraldtheHerald · 30/12/2022 11:54

I think LV provokes such strong reactions because the branding is so ostentatious. I wouldn't buy one as I think they look tacky with so much branding.

I sometimes wonder what my dear late dad would have thoughts about the trend for very obvious branding these days. He would turn a carrier bag inside out and say 'I'm not doing free advertising for anyone' Grin

chavbagornot · 30/12/2022 12:07

Appleblum · 30/12/2022 09:13

It's a very cute bag in person OP! You did it a huge injustice with your photo 😅

Buy it if you like it! I remember when it first came out it sold out very quickly and there were waiting lists for it.

🤣 I know I agree I wasn't dressed best for the photo I was on a casual day out shopping

I also didn't realise I posted in AIBU this was supposed to be for the style and beauty section can it be moved there?
