Guests taking food home

We've hosted some friends and family gatherings over Christmas and on a couple of occasions guests kindly offered to bring food (home baked cake, biscuits etc).
I was a bit shocked when, on leaving, they packaged up leftovers (of their contribution) and took it home (uninvited). When I take food / drink to a party I consider it a gift / contribution and would dream of reclaiming it at the end of the evening. AIBU?

I find it rude but then think ok they must need it more than we do. I'd never do it.

I do wish certain guests would actually do this automatically! My SIL and MIL are both obese and always come bringing double cream desserts, sides swimming in butter or cupcakes drowned in butter cream. While this is no problem if you've given up on your appearance and don't have children, in our household we try to avoid excess fat and our son doesn't get added sugar so it's actually quite awkward to end up with these leftovers. I hate throwing food out so whatever the outcome I feel bad! I've resorted to sending the stuff back home with them on some occasions but this also makes me feel bad! Just awkward all around 😑

I don't mind of people take things back with them, it means less food waste and less for me to clean up after. If you wanted something they'd brought, I'd just aso if it was ok and put a bit to one side.
