AIBU to feel ripped off by M&S and the Turkey "crown" I bought

Booked a "feeds 8-10" turkey crown in October, picked it up last week. weight seemed ok for feeding the 8-10.

Opened it to cook on Boxing Day, needing to feed 9 of us only to find that tucked under the "crown" and not visible through then packaging were the top joint/ bones of the legs with no meat on them. So this inedible extra added to the weight and made the whole thing look larger than it was, carefully hidden by packaging.

Family portions were small to make sure our guests ate well.

We had a turkey crown from M&S last year and there were no leg parts attached so I do feel ripped off.

If you had a turkey crown from anywhere this Christmas, did it include bits of leg ?

No legs, only crown from Morrisons

ThreeB · 28/12/2022 14:12

We had a 'feeds 8-10' M&S turkey crown too and ours didn't have legs.

LucygreenP · 28/12/2022 14:13

My crown from Tesco included a bone and legs too, I was not impressed!

BethJ62 · 28/12/2022 14:13

I too was disappointed with my M and S turkey crown this year . 6-8 portions size which should have been fine for only 4 turkey eaters but I was pushed to get 4 decent portions and barely enough left for a sandwich. Fortunately had ham and beef too.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 28/12/2022 14:14

Did you take a picture of it? Because what you got was not a crown.

Complain.

Willowswood · 28/12/2022 14:14

Our Turkey crown was from Tesco, and it was 10/10. No legs on there at all. It said it served 12, and it easily did.

Thatnameistaken · 28/12/2022 14:15

Crown only from lidl

Eleganz · 28/12/2022 14:15

They are all at it I'm afraid either raising prices or reducing size of products.

I get a rolled turkey breast from the butcher, no bones, easier to cook, get to see what you are really getting beforehand.

My £30 bit of turkey from M&S to feed 4-6 was lovely, but only enough to feed 4-6 baby sparrows. It was ridiculous. To be honest the whole £70 I spent on their Christmas food (as much as it was convenient) wasn't worth it at all and I wouldn't bother again.

theresnolimits · 28/12/2022 14:16

Crown only from M and S. No bone or legs.

kegofcoffee · 28/12/2022 14:17

We get an M&S turkey crown every year.

This year I ordered one for 8-10 people, which was meant to feed 7 adults and 2 kids. No of whom are big eaters.

Luckily we had 2 drop outs (so only 5 adults), and the kids only wanted sausages. Because there is no way it would have fed the 7 adults let allow 8 or 10.

I didn't carve it so can't comment on the leg joints. But one thing I did notice when I picked it up was that the packaging said 'feeds 8' rather than '8-10'. And there is no way on earth you could have fit a bigger turkey in the box, ours barely fit in it.

Going to try somewhere else next year, cos there is no way it was worth the £60-£70 it cost.

PinkiOcelot · 28/12/2022 14:19

Aldi frozen crown to feed 6-8 (I think) was crown only. About £15.

purplecorkheart · 28/12/2022 14:20

Never bought a turkey crown from MS and but a few years ago bought a beef fillet wrapped in parma ham. The packaging said feed 8. It feed four people who had starters, sides and not huge appetites. It was lovely but I tend to ignore M&S suggested amount of people things feed

PearlclutchersInc · 28/12/2022 14:21

Maybe it was sourced by someone who believes in the very MN chicken that goes on forever.

Claddyt · 28/12/2022 14:21

Sorry but I never preorder anymore used too go on Christmas Eve and you’ll get one for next to nothing! I went and got a £70 free range bronze for £30 go late enough you’ll get one for even less!!

And that was sneaky of M&S unless it was weighed prior and they assumed to add these to make a separate stock?

Thornrose · 28/12/2022 14:24

Not just an M&S turkey crown, an MN turkey crown...😂😂

Itchintobestitchin · 28/12/2022 14:26

My Sainsbury's turkey crown was the same as yours. Surprisingly large leg bones with no meat on them tucked into the hollow underneath.

camembertiscalling · 28/12/2022 14:27

We had a lidl turkey crown which easily fed 10 with some leftover bits for soup etc. It was lovely and cost was around £14. No legs 🤣

Our Turkey crown was from Tesco, and it was 10/10. No legs on there at all. It said it served 12, and it easily did.

Same here. Tesco turkey crown was great.
I don’t know why people rave about M&S food. A lot of it is overpriced and mediocre quality.

dancinfeet · 28/12/2022 14:27

yes- small turkey crown from lidl- feeds 8, had legs attached and tucked under, also was arched in like a really odd way in the packaging so that it looked as though the breast was much bigger / thicker than it was (the legs were folded underneath what was essentially a hollow cavity), in reality it would have served 4 people a decent turkey serving or 8 people a very small meat portion.

Clarich007 · 28/12/2022 14:30

Our M and S turkey crown was £37.50.It said 8-10, but the price label said feeds 8.It was lovely, no complaints with that, and it had the top of the leg joints included, but they were really meaty and delicious.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 28/12/2022 14:33

Very weird. We had a fancy free range Lidl one, said serves 6-8. We've only carved one half which has fed DH and me twice, plus a few slices for Boxing Day guests - the rest will be frozen. Absolutely no legs, or even wings.

ExhaustedFlamingo · 28/12/2022 14:35

I never find the number of people it serves is accurate. It’s like the cake that says it serves “10-12” when in reality, you’ll get 6-8 decent slices out of it.

When you look at the advertising photos which show generous helpings, there is absolutely no way there are the same number of portions of that size.

I always buy with the aim of serving fewer people than the box suggests. Would rather have leftovers than stingy portions!

CharityShopChic · 28/12/2022 14:36

We had a turkey crown from M&S this year too and it wasn't good. We've had far better in previous years. Won't be ordering one next year.

My3dahliasarebloominlovely · 28/12/2022 14:37

My turkey crown was a small frozen one from either tesco or morrisons - can't remember which now. I had two thighs with bones sticking out attached, for the first time ever. Obviously making up the weight. As there are only 2 of us there is normally loads left over to package and freeze for future meals: not so this year. I think I've managed to squeeze a total of 6 very mean portions out of it in all. Bought it back in October before things got worse with avian flu, and it was about £17
