Neighbour taking liberties

I’m just so angry right now. I live on a busy new build estate and parking is a luxury. We have one parking space big enough for one car. DH and I were away over Christmas and mentioned to our next door neighbours, who are elderly, that they could park in it to save them from finding a space. DH told them we would be back Boxing Day.

We arrived home last night and a totally different neighbour has parked there! We then couldn’t park in our own space and we ended up scouring the street trying to find a space and had to unload the car with several trips!

I’m annoyed because the elderly neighbours have obviously told these neighbours that they could park there (we NEVER said anyone else could - we were trying to be nice to the elderly neighbours). Also, it’s been 24 hours and the car is still there! We’ve had to find another space on the road AGAIN - I’m angry because these other neighbours have my mobile number and I thought they would’ve at least text me to ask if they could use my space, and also because the car still hasn’t moved.

DH has been over to the other neighbours and they aren’t in, and I’ve text them and put it nicely, but bluntly, “move your car” - but no answer.

DH says it’s fine and that I’m getting upset over nothing, but I think both sets of neighbours are being CFs!

So please, shall I take a chill pill or would you be angry too?!

@AliceOlive thats what DH thinks but I will just casually mention it when I see Rob and Jane next, just to check.

Is it on your drive, or a designated space with your house number painted in it?

She said it's a designated space, with her number painted in it.

Angry? I'd have been RAGING..

This would give me the rage!

Me too.
Block the car in.
Write an invoice —- parking is at £x per day. You owe us £xx.
Deflate a tyre. I know they won’t be able to move the car but why should you be the only one pissed off?
Write a BIG sign —- abandoned car. And put it across which ever bit of the car is visible from the road.
I’d say superglue the locks but central locking would probably still work.

Vaseline on the windscreen wipers is a thing of joy. Not for the recipient, you understand!

I've missed that, too. What time was that post, pls?

MeridianB · 27/12/2022 17:31

Looking forward to the update from Rob and Jane. Even if they did give him the nod, surely they would have also said you were back today.

Him leaving it there and ignoring messages for so long is super CF behaviour. Even more so if he’s then lying about an emergency.

Something tells me he’d go berserk if you parked on his drive, even in an ‘emergency’.

Jaybird43 · 27/12/2022 17:32

@ortonym it was on my update about 4.30pm I think. I was rage typing to begin with and missed that bit out of my original post!

@SinnerBoy i will remember that Vaseline tip if it happens again in future!

@SinnerBoy I’ve parked sideways on to him, so he’s got about a foot between his car and mine. There’s a wall behind his car so he’s well and truly stuck. I’ll move it as soon as he comes to the door / texts me but I just want him to fee inconvenienced for a minute! Parking spaces are marked with our house numbers as well, so he knows it’s my space

Probably best not to, if it's the same arse. He'll know 100% !

It smears all over the windscreen and is Hell to wash off.

Gooseysgirl · 27/12/2022 17:37

You need to educate your DH about MN parking threads... he is no fun AT ALL 😉

OP

my fury at a CF parking in my space was the stuff of legend here.

but don't do the Vaseline thing. If he activates his wipers on the road, there could be an accident.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 27/12/2022 17:40

GettingStuffed · 27/12/2022 16:48

Why, in this day and age do developers only allow minimal parking. Bearing in mind most modern households have at least 2 if not 3 or 4 vehicles head Dickheads thinks I'll build the houses with a single space.

Because they aren’t going to use land for parking when they can use it for more houses. It’s all about the money so they aren’t going to waste a spare inch of land.

What could possibly go wrong. CF goes out, is driving 70 down a motorway when it starts to rain, turns on the windscreen wipers...

Best case scenario he gets to the hard shoulder without killing himself of anyone else, but even then I suspect the Police would want to speak to the utter idiot that could have caused a fatality.

LaughingCat · 27/12/2022 17:43

Just came across this and I’m with your DH…I mean, woah. So much aggro. Over a parking space. I’d be pissed, sure, but maybe not ‘post on the internet then box in the car while curtain-twitching’ mad.

But then, my DH would react like you, so I think the roles are just switched in our relationship to yours 😂

I wasn't being entirely serious!

Strangeways19 · 27/12/2022 17:47

This would make my blood boil I hate it when people park in my drive & I'd be massively annoyed if I only had one space. Can't you block them in?

It's funny, when pointed out that 'advice' could be deadly, how many people suddenly say "but I wasn't being serious!" or "It was tongue in cheek!"

Best bet is not to give that advice at all really isn't it, either in jest or otherwise? Especially given you have no idea how many people will read it and think it's a cracking idea.

Soothsayer1 · 27/12/2022 17:56

Keeps you waiting days & then orders you to move your car immediately...worra bullshitter
the emergency was he couldnt be bothered to look for a space
dont offer your space out again!

Jaybird43 · 27/12/2022 17:56

@AdobeWanKenobi, it was a joke. Of course I wouldn’t smear Vaseline on someone’s car! @SinnerBoy was joking.

OP posts:
Canthave2manycats · 27/12/2022 17:58

I'd have made him wait for his bloody car - the cheek of him! You should have told him that you could have moved your car when you first tried to contact him but that it wasn't a convenient time for you now!

If he does it again, stick a large 'For Sale' poster on it, asking for a ridiculously low price and putting his number on. Bet it gets moved then!!

However, installing a bollard is probably the best way to go.

I wouldn't buy a house with just one space, tbh. Sibling lives in one like this, 4 bed detached newbuild and it's so tight, it's ridiculous. I hate driving in and out of it.
