Neighbour taking liberties

I’m just so angry right now. I live on a busy new build estate and parking is a luxury. We have one parking space big enough for one car. DH and I were away over Christmas and mentioned to our next door neighbours, who are elderly, that they could park in it to save them from finding a space. DH told them we would be back Boxing Day.

We arrived home last night and a totally different neighbour has parked there! We then couldn’t park in our own space and we ended up scouring the street trying to find a space and had to unload the car with several trips!

I’m annoyed because the elderly neighbours have obviously told these neighbours that they could park there (we NEVER said anyone else could - we were trying to be nice to the elderly neighbours). Also, it’s been 24 hours and the car is still there! We’ve had to find another space on the road AGAIN - I’m angry because these other neighbours have my mobile number and I thought they would’ve at least text me to ask if they could use my space, and also because the car still hasn’t moved.

DH has been over to the other neighbours and they aren’t in, and I’ve text them and put it nicely, but bluntly, “move your car” - but no answer.

DH says it’s fine and that I’m getting upset over nothing, but I think both sets of neighbours are being CFs!

So please, shall I take a chill pill or would you be angry too?!

No, because they couldn't come up with a reason for their imaginary emergency.

Jaybird43 · 28/12/2022 18:14

Yeah it wasn’t an emergency at all. My DH saw elderly neighbour Rob and DH mentioned what had happened. Rob just said “I did tell them
you would be back Boxing Day” - so going to assume CF either forgot or didn’t care about inconveniencing us! We won’t offer it again. I think if CF had text to ask or even responded when I tried calling him, then I don’t think I would’ve been as mad as I got in the end.

It is annoying but unfortunately, you don't have a leg to stand on and if they refused to move their car, there is nothing you can do or say, if they are taxed and insured I'm afraid!

brilly · 28/12/2022 18:18

Rather than write an epistle here, does it not make sense to approach the owner of the car to move it.

Jaybird43 · 27/12/2022 15:52

@FurAndFeathers my DH said to let it go yesterday, that it would be gone today. Only it hasn’t gone. They aren’t answering our calls now and I’m hoping they haven’t just dumped the car and left it! DH is far more relaxed than me, I just can’t get over the cheekiness of it.

I would be really p'ssed off and you have every right to be, could you call the police or something and say a car is blocking/on your driveway? Are you sure it's that neighbours car? If so could you say you are going to get it removed unless they come and remove it themselves.

Soothsayer1 · 28/12/2022 18:25

didn’t care about inconveniencing us!
their son has seen your husband, sized him up, though 'yeah, I could take him' and betted (correctly) that your husband will let it go rather than risk a confrontation with him

Loobieloogold · 28/12/2022 18:25

What about their space? Can you just park in theirs assuming that they have buggered off somewhere?

WhereYouLeftIt · 28/12/2022 18:30

Can you fit something like this to your parking space, OP?

You can block them in and have a few drinks so you can't move your car. If they won't move, inconvenience them as much as possible!

Bet you they fucked off on holidays

More than once I've seen someone park outside our house, grab a suitcase out of their boot, jump into a taxi and disappear for a week.

SinnerBoy · 28/12/2022 18:38

We had that a few years ago. A massive Bentley, three quarters of a normal car length from the marked parking area.

It was there for more than three weeks. Every day, I took the fresh parking ticket off the windscreen.

Tiani4 · 28/12/2022 18:39

@Jaybird43
Glad CF nDN have moved their car off your drive now what a f**king liberty! (As Catherine Tate Gran would say!)

I would tell your elderly neighbours they are never to park on your drive now nor ever offer out to other neighbours as you were so inconvenienced and unhappy with them too. It's your property.

Gosh you need a lockable penguin bollard!! Smile

Ooooh so did they have multiple car parking tickets and a big problem? That's pro revenge!!!

Recently two lovely people lost their lives when they were stabbed to death over a parking space. Please all keep your heads about this issue. It’s the developers fault. They should allow 2 parking spaces at least per house.

Jaybird43 · 28/12/2022 18:42

@brilly my DH went over to their house twice and no answer. I called and text and no answer. It’s only when I blocked him in he called me / came back to get his car

Yes, they got a new one every day. I noticed that there were three, so took them. Next day, there was another one and so on.

It's residents permits and meter parking, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm. Not individual bays, but long ones between double yellow lines and dropped kerbs.

It's a popular parking spot and often difficult for residents to find a space, as there are some restaurants at the bottom of the road. People come between 6pm and 9 or 10 and you can't find a space.

Dragonella · 28/12/2022 18:49

When my Mum passed away 3 years ago the mother of the family who lived a cross the road would park on my Mum's drive.. Never asked only assumed the lady has passed away so free to do as she wanted.. Until I caught her.. Told her straight there would be skip being dumped there and any free space was for our family to park to clear the house.. Also pointed out if she had ask permission then probably would have agreed limited access

Text them again and tell them vandals have set it on fire, that should see them come running.

Yep or it’s ok now a tow is here moving it.

Zazazoolly · 28/12/2022 19:08

You should’ve turned the tables and not answered, knowing he wanted out. What did you say to him?

user1493559472 · 28/12/2022 19:08

Do you have a company that own the car park? If they don't have a parking permit surely they will get a parking ticket?

brilly · 28/12/2022 19:08

Well done.

thanks

What an entitled asshat the neighbour is!

What could possibly go wrong. CF goes out, is driving 70 down a motorway when it starts to rain, turns on the windscreen wipers...

Best case scenario he gets to the hard shoulder without killing himself of anyone else, but even then I suspect the Police would want to speak to the utter idiot that could have caused a fatality.

Exactly absolute madness

What’s the logic of taking the tickets?

You must live near me. That was utterly tragic x
