To ask your thoughts on Andrew Tate?

I went out for dinner recently and all of my nephews aged between 13-26 had a lots of respect for him.

While I agree with a lot of what Andrew Tate says he then has to spoil things with his horrific views on certain topics and I'd go as far as to say some of his points make him dangerous to young men (it concerned me how my nephews really respect him)

What are your thoughts on Andrew Tate?? But also, why do so many respect him in this way when he is so dangerous? Or is it that most people clearly secretly feel this way too?!

Not sure how Andrew Tate and Jordan Peterson got tarred with the same brush. Jordan Peterson is a neurologist and psychologist. Andre Tate is an ex Muy Thai fighter and professional provocateur.

And very much of what he talks about steers far and wide of his expertise. He's a motivational speaker who uses his expertise in one field to legitimise his views on unrelated topics.

He's also desperately in need of help rather than being in a credible position to offer it. I'm not having life advice off someone that's a fucking mess.

WorldCuppa · 27/12/2022 17:53

@SamanthaCaine In that case you know nothing of Jordan Peterson.

I've listened to enough of his talks. He, like AT speaks some sense but much of the rest is not groundbreaking or deserving of his followers.

Obviously I'm not talking entirely about his university lectures but the stuff that's made him popular with young men.

This particular exhange gave me joy today...

"I've listened to enough of his talks. He, like AT speaks some sense but much of the rest is not groundbreaking or deserving of his followers."

It's not groundbreaking to us, but it probably is to young people. 'Clean your room' is very good advice as it has a ripple effect. Yes, we know this and that's why we nag the dcs but JP explains it very patiently and inspiringly.
It's like I know how to eat healthy and exercise but sometimes I need to hear the reasons again to get me going.

JP is much more than this advice though. I've listened to him a lot and I'd be fine for my ds to listen to him and think he would learn a lot about society, responsibility, relationships and working hard.
I wouldn't be happy for my ds to be learning from AT.

WorldCuppa · 27/12/2022 18:17

@SamanthaCaine fair enough. Just as a matter of personal curiosity, what makes someone ‘deserving’ of their followers?

SamanthaCaine · 27/12/2022 18:24

@InterstellarDrifter

Possibly groundbreaking to those who lack enough in their lives (or are so young) to think him as some kind of father figure. Address what's missing in their lives and you don't need someone who is so arrogant as to think people need 12 rules to live by (along with the rest of his cast iron truths).

It's like I know how to eat healthy and exercise but sometimes I need to hear the reasons again to get me going.

Yes, preferably from someone who wants you to buy their book.

@SamanthaCaine fair enough. Just as a matter of personal curiosity, what makes someone ‘deserving’ of their followers?

Someone who isn't telling young men how they 'should' be living their lives before wheeling out their 12 rules, 'for sale in all good bookshops'.

Fairislefandango · 27/12/2022 18:39

IMO people need to have inspirational figures to look up to and be examples of. not just in the family but externally as well.
I am not talking about heroes or heroines but solid people that can be seen to be living good lives.

I disagree. If there's one thing young people should be doing less of, it's looking up to celebrities and copying people they see in the media. These people are all fallible human beings, often more motivated by fame than by altruism or other noble aims. And they often turn out to be problematic or a disappointment in the end.

Someone who isn't falling down the hole they're warning you of.

Unless he's being offered up as a cautionary tale

Fairislefandango · 27/12/2022 18:42

I'm not sure any influencers or lifesttle gurus actually deserve their followers. They are all just trying to get media attention and money. What's deserving about that?

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 27/12/2022 18:54

It’s the era of YouTube prophets, there’s any number of them all spouting much the same thing. Their primary aim is to teach you that you can empower yourself by buying their various products.

Andrew Tate, the new Jeffrey Epstein?
Likes trafficking women?

Is he birthing his own ego?

Agreed to a point. I think people could be admired for what they are and what their good at, rather than the expectation or belief that because they can kick a ball/act in a movie/sing a song that they have anything else valid or worthwhile to bring to your attention is extremely unlikely.

Tate appears to have been quite good at kicking people in the head, probably worthy of respect if you like that kind of thing, and he's super adept at fleecing muppets. But there his talents end

I think as well that much of the support and interest in him is trolling. A few of the people I know that talk about him (older than teens) are definitely talking about him to wind people up.

Someone should do some "publicity" for him along the "people who use head and shoulders don't have dandruff" concept

As it doesn't appear to be clear enough, I wouldn't hold AT up as someone to be like.
I hold the same view with many celebs, footballers and influencers.

I have not seen JP try to sell his book/s in that fashion.
But I have seen that most other life coaches do this

yubgummy · 27/12/2022 22:38

@OneTC totally agree that there is a degree of trolling associated with him. It's a bit online-edgelord. "Yeah, I'm a misogynist, and I love it, suck on that, feminists".

The only way to dissipate it is to laugh at it :)

Andrew Tate and Jordan Peterson have different approaches to appeal to the same audience. That's why they're always lumped together.

One thing they have in common is that they reject the idea that the sexes are equal. Ideas that some posters in this thread are posting, e.g. "society should stop judging men for feminine behaviours", would be anathema to them both. JP comes at it from an intellectual evo-psych POV (and again, isn't into sex slavery in eastern Europe!) but he has the same message. We are a sexually dimorphic species and there are certain traits we fundamentally value more in each sex, and wishing it away isn't going to change it.

And I agree. As does Louise Perry:

😂😂
I had very strong impulses to shield my eyes from that picture, and the first impression is of someone giving birth surrounded by team of helpers 👀

It seems that Greta Thunberg agrees that he's under-endowed:

Greta Thunberg takes on Andrew Tate: Eco-warrior says 'toxic' ex-Big Brother influencer has 'small d**k energy' and tells him 'get a life' in SAVAGE putdown as he trolls her with his supercars

Fuck me this is the guy that thinks he's "the best man on earth" and how to advise men to be more like him.

He has a peanut head and shoulders like a coat hanger 🤣

I'll pass thanks.

Foxgluv · 28/12/2022 15:09

Get a life is right. People like him are in a constant phase of proving something and they just have be noticed.

Not sure what he's trying to prove with these ridiculous posed and pouty photos. Is that a very masculine rose gold watch and bursting with masculinity leopard print shoes? He looks like he'd wear a thong in his crack buttocks and matching thong flip flops to the beach.

He's a moaning child with a pea head & an extra long forehead. Tato, embrace that girly chin and find some contentment.

1dayatatime · 28/12/2022 17:04

@OneTC

Your post regarding Jordan Peterson

"Just the thought that you'd look to a fucking benzo addict who's life has literally fallen apart and who despite being supposedly really fucking clever actually claimed he didn't know the highly addictive drugs he took daily might bite him back eventually.

But yeah tidy your room"

The background

The last few years have been difficult for Peterson. In 2018 his wife Tammy was diagnosed with cancer, and Peterson – who has spoken openly about his history of depression – began taking anti-anxiety medication. He became physically dependent on the drugs and last year he admitted himself to a medical centre in Russia where he was placed in an induced coma. His daughter Mikhaila has recently reported that his health is now improving, although he came close to death

My question

Why would you want to post a hateful misleading comment without giving the background to his anti depressant addiction?

OneTC · 28/12/2022 17:12

How was it misleading?
